Exodus 8:8-15

Lesson # Exodus 8:8-15
Study Material - Exodus 8:8-15

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Ex. 8:8-15

8 Then Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron and said, 'Entreat the LORD that He remove the frogs from me and from my people; and I will let the people go, that they may sacrifice to the LORD.' 9 And Moses said to Pharaoh, 'The honor is yours to tell me: when shall I entreat for you and your servants and your people, that the frogs be destroyed from you and your houses, that they may be left only in the Nile?' 10 Then he said, 'Tomorrow.' So he said, 'May it be according to your word, that you may know that there is no one like the LORD our God. 11 And the frogs will depart from you and your houses and your servants and your people; they will be left only in the Nile.' 12 Then Moses and Aaron went out from Pharaoh, and Moses cried to the LORD concerning the frogs which He had inflicted upon Pharaoh. 13 And the LORD did according to the word of Moses, and the frogs died out of the houses, the courts, and the fields. 14 So they piled them in heaps, and the land became foul. 15 But when Pharaoh saw that there was relief, he hardened his heart and did not listen to them, as the LORD had said.

So this is the 'Day of the Frogs'. I recall of movies made concerning bats, and birds, but I don't recall any movies made with attacking frogs or some such thing. I think it would make a good slimy Sci. Fi. Anyway, Pharaoh for the first time recognizes God, or at least mentions his name. 'Ask your God', he doesn't refer to God as his God or even THE one and only God, but still asks Moses to request from 'his' God to take the frogs away from 'him' first., then the rest of the land where his people live.

No time frame is mentioned for the frog event. We can only guess that people did all that they could to kill them off and otherwise get rid of them, but they just kept coming. Frustrated, Pharaoh probably heard many a complaint from all over the land. So he called for Moses and asked for the removal of the frogs, and in addition, he granted the Hebrews permission to leave to go worship their God.

Moses lets Pharaoh choose the date for removal of the frogs, and 'tomorrow' is the date set by Pharaoh. He could have said immediately, but knowing Pharaoh, he probably hoped that the frogs would be gone before the next day. Also, by allowing Pharaoh to set the time and in the presence of whom ever else was in that meeting, all would know that it was not Pharaoh, but God was the power that will remove the frogs.

On schedule, the frogs died off the next day. And on schedule, Pharaoh changed his mind about releasing the Hebrews.

Pharaoh could have asked his magicians to remove the frogs, and probably did. Obviously they could not. Thus the request for Moses.

Everyone on earth is subject to changing their minds, but people negative toward Bible doctrine will be more apt to be unreliable and undependable. Pharaoh had an agreement which he made himself, but he could have claimed duress. However, the frogs represent life in this world apart from God. God gives us a life free of the nuisance of frogs through Bible study and spiritual growth. To reject God is to embrace the frogs of the world and all that goes with them, especially when they die - stinky, stinky!

So there is no duress on Pharaoh nor any of us when it comes to our making our decision for or against our daily Bible study. Which ever choice we make is from our own free will. When things go our way, we need to be just as consistent in our attitude toward God as when things do not go our way.

It is far better to live a life inside Gods plan for us, even with the problems we might face because of our life on this planet earth, than it is to live outside Gods plan for us, where we are still living on this planet and have to face life without His help.

Still at this point no one has been harmed. They have just been inconvenienced, and probably tired to boot. The first two plagues were easily duplicated (on a very small scale) by the magicians, and Pharaoh of course equates their efforts to that of God. But that ability will stop at this second plague. Such it is with life. We can do things on our own probably for many years. We can hustle and work and get ahead on our own, and presume it is of our own ability and effort that we are where we are. Not so in truth. None of are anywhere unless God wills it. Sooner or later life will throw a curve that is beyond our capability, then where does one turn? In pain we are in the position that Pharaoh will soon find himself. He will be there only because of his stubborn attitude. And that is true for each one of us. If we remain stubborn in life, if we do not take common sense precautions, if we ignore God in our life, then we are in for a world of hurt.

Now is the time to post a prayer.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
