Exodus 7:3-7

Lesson # Exodus 7:3-7
Study Material - Exodus 7:3-7

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Ex. 7:3-7

3 But I will harden Pharaoh's heart that I may multiply My signs and My wonders in the land of Egypt. 4 When Pharaoh will not listen to you, then I will lay My hand on Egypt, and bring out My hosts, My people the sons of Israel, from the land of Egypt by great judgments. 5 And the Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD, when I stretch out My hand on Egypt and bring out the sons of Israel from their midst.' 6 So Moses and Aaron did it; as the LORD commanded them, thus they did. 7 And Moses was eighty years old and Aaron eighty-three, when they spoke to Pharaoh.

There are two key elements in these verses, 'I will harden,' and 'When Pharaoh will not listen.' This explanation follows a pattern further explained in Eph. 4, and refers to the callousness of Pharaoh's soul that accompanies stubborn rejection of Bible doctrine.

Here the word for harden is, 'qashah', meaning tough, dense, hardened, or callous. Pharaoh is not getting hardening of the arteries because of too much cholesterol. This heart is his mental thought process. That is something that exists sand functions in the soul. Our physical heart is nothing more than a pump for circulating blood throughout our physical bodies.

Here Pharaoh is given the option of making a decision, which he refuses to make in the Hebrews favor. He is stubborn. He denies them permission to leave. His heart (soul) rejects the command of God, and as such exposes himself to the hardening process which covers the soul with a callous type of covering. Not a physical scar tissue callousness like you see on the bottom of your sore feet, but a soul scar tissue resulting from stubborn rejection of truth. This covering eventually chokes off the soul. When that happens, the person dies in their miserable state lacking any spiritual thought or resources for that matter. This callousness can happen to both believer (negative types) or unbelievers, as Pharaoh was. It is a result of negative attitude toward Gods truth.

Throughout these first few miracles, Pharaoh will harden his own soul. That is, he will make his own decisions to reject Gods command. It will be clear as to where these commands are coming from. Certainly not Moses or Aaron.

God makes one more statement, 'that they will that I am the Lord'. Meaning not just that God has a personal identity, but here the emphasis is on the 'I', and 'Lord'. I God, is the emphasis. That is, there is only one God. There are no other gods out there in the world or the universe. Ra is not a god, none of the other Egyptian gods are real.

Today we have five major faiths, with a lot of sub faiths of course, but as a rule there are four major faiths - Christianity which is ours of course, and there are a lot of various beliefs even within that category like the Eastern and Western Catholic and various Protestant groups, but the general belief is in Jesus Christ despite each groups peculiarities. Then there is Islam, Buddha, Hindu, and Judaism. I don't really count all of the various cults and other beliefs that have come about in the last couple of centuries.

Christianity of course promotes Jesus Christ as the one true and only God who provides us with a means of salvation via the Cross. Islam is a counterfeit of Christianity in that it attempts to promote the deception of another one true god, Allah, and he had various prophets etc. Judaism is similar in that it believes in one god, but rejects Jesus Christ as that God. They are still waiting for their messiah. Hinduism follows the belief that we die and then are reincarnated over and over again until we become absorbed into the 'everything' that exists and consequently become a part of god - Brahman. This is a distortion of the indwelling of the three members of the trinity in Christianity and the ultimate residence of God in each one of us at the end of human history as covered in Revelation. Buddhism is a godless theology. One just eliminates all cravings by meditation and such until one achieves the ultimate consciousness and enlightenment. This is an evolutionary thought process rejecting God and implies that the universe is just continually evolving into something higher.

But repeatedly in the Bible we will see the statement, 'That I am the Lord.' There is but one God, and Jesus Christ is that God. Other than developed philosophies throughout the ages, all other beliefs have no foundation or consistency in history. Only the Bible has documentation, supported by accurate prophecy, supported by thousands of years of consistency, and remains even to this current day despite all the attempts to destroy it in the past.

The signs and miracles to be presented to the Egyptians will be proof positive that the events that will occur will be beyond the natural occurrences and beyond human explanation. Sure their magicians can conjure up some deceptive magic that imitate the miracles, but they will run out of tricks, nor can they duplicate the magnitude of each miracle.

With each subsequent miracle there will be increased pressure. God does this to any who reject Him and truth. As people continue in their stubborn behavior in life the problems that they will face will increase against them. Same goes for nations. Perhaps the USA was getting a little nudge from God, this past September. Those events were certainly felt on a national scale, and there seems to be a greater liberal tendency in this country. Time will tell I suppose.

But here in Egypt, Pharaoh and the general population were definitely negative toward God as well as His chosen people - believers in Him. Sodom was negative and they got their due. Now Egypt is getting their chance to either change or be judged.

So it is with all of us. We either stick with that straight and narrow path - Bible study, or we don't. And that of course is the key to each lives.

Now is the time to post a prayer.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
