Exodus 5:20-23
Lesson # Exodus 5:20-23
Study Material - Exodus 5:20-23
You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.
Ex. 5:20-23
20 When they left Pharaoh's presence, they met Moses and Aaron as they were waiting for them. 21 And they said to them, 'May the LORD look upon you and judge you, for you have made us odious in Pharaoh's sight and in the sight of his servants, to put a sword in their hand to kill us.' 22 Then Moses returned to the LORD and said, 'O Lord, why hast Thou brought harm to this people? Why didst Thou ever send me? 23 'Ever since I came to Pharaoh to speak in Thy name, he has done harm to this people; and Thou hast not delivered Thy people at all.'
The foremen went straight to intercept Moses and Aaron. They were waiting' means they 'stationed themselves' on purpose in order to intercept Moses and Aaron.
The reaction of condemnation against Moses and Aaron. Negative people, or anyone who lacks Bible doctrine will find fault in others, always. It's more convenient than looking at themselves in the mirror and finding fault in themselves. The most common characteristic of negative people, when things go wrong in their life, is to immediately blame someone else.
Negative people never see their own deficiencies. They only see their own strengths. Negative people always credit themselves for whatever successes they have. When problems befall them, then they look elsewhere for a scapegoat. They do not even hesitate for a second to think that they themselves might be the problem. Or that there might be more to the problem than the obvious.
What is the problem here? Lack of faith.
God has made a promise to the Hebrews. God has given each one of us promises throughout the scriptures. And just as he told Abraham. We must 'walk in faith' and 'be blameless'. That is a very simple statement and simply means 'walk' - apply Bible doctrine to your daily life, and 'blameless' - be in fellowship. This is the sum total of the Christian way of life. And this is where the Hebrews failed. They did not study regularly, therefore they did not learn, therefore they could not apply to their daily life that which they did not know. They did not observe the fellowship concepts, therefore they could not learn and gain the spiritual benefit of anything scriptural anyway. So there are their three strikes - no fellowship, no study, no application. Zero spiritual life in effect.
Without spiritual resources in the soul a person has no basis for building faith. Faith is the basis of courage and strength in life. Without that, then people fall apart in life when things get tough. About the only thing that they have available to make themselves feel good (temporarily) is to find someone else to blame and then go blame them, spread the gossip about them, be vindictive, be hateful, concentrate their focus in life on the hate of their selected scapegoat.
These foremen were weak spiritually. Even Moses is weak at this point, but Moses is ahead in the spiritual game because, despite his weak faith, he turns to God in prayer. They did not. The foremen turned to their taskmasters, then they turned to Pharaoh, then they went to blame Moses. Somehow God got lost in the picture.
Moses did not go to the taskmasters, did not go to Pharaoh, did not even go to the other Hebrews, the elders to justify himself, but went first to God. His faith was weak but his focus, his priorities were right. This is the difference between any common believer (those who lack spiritual growth) and a great believer (those who are advancing toward spiritual maturity).
Everyone stumbles in life. Obviously Moses stumbled. Neither you nor I are exempt from falling down on our face in life, but we distinguish ourselves in our spiritual lives by getting back up and continue our moving forward in our spiritual life. We look to God in prayer and we keep on, keeping on in our daily study. We persist regardless of what others around us think.
We will be ridiculed. We will be the target of sarcastic remarks. We will be the target of the hate and frustration of others. But we ignore them and move forward in out lives.
Moses did not engage these foremen, but moved off to get answers from God. God will answer him again in the next chapter but Moses already knows the answer as to why their burdens have increased. Pharaoh will reject them and typical of an abusive person, will make them the target of his wrath. Then God will begin the miracle process, and Pharaoh's heart will remain hardened in his stubbornness. Eventually God will take the first born of Egypt. Moses has already been told all of this. The Hebrews to have been told.
Furthermore, life is not a bed of rose petals. We will all meet face to face with problems. The Bible summarizes the sources of problems in four general categories - ones own thoughts, other people, bureaucratic systems, and disasters (either in nature or medical). We cannot control the latter three but we can tolerate them. The first source of problems in from our own thoughts, and that we can control through Bible doctrine, if we only make an effort.
God makes promises and God never holds back. Sometimes they might seem delayed or nonexistent but that is always due to our own failures.
The Hebrews should have expected nothing less than a reaction from Pharaoh. They should have turned to God immediately in prayer and placed the problem in Gods hands, then got on with their lives allowing time and God to fix everything.
Moses complaint that they haven't been delivered yet. Of course not! God has a plan and He disclosed it to Moses. The plan has just begun. There are still more things that need to happen. We haven't even seen the snake in the stick miracle yet. So Moses is getting the cart way out in front of the horse.
God often places us in situations that are beyond our control. The more stubborn you remain, the more helpless a situation will be dumped in your lap. Want things to get really, really bad in your life then remain stiff necked for as long as you possibly can. At some point the hurt will eventually get to you and you'll be crying to God. Only just make sure that you haven't held out too long that God is still there to hear you. Of course you can minimize the pain in your life and maximize the blessings by getting with a program of Bible study, but then who wants to do that?????
Now is the time to post a prayer.
End Of Lesson
Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
