Exodus 4:27-31

Lesson # Exodus 4:27-31
Study Material - Exodus 4:27-31

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Ex. 4:27-31

27 Now the LORD said to Aaron, 'Go to meet Moses in the wilderness.' So he went and met him at the mountain of God, and he kissed him. 28 And Moses told Aaron all the words of the LORD with which He had sent him, and all the signs that He had commanded him to do. 29 Then Moses and Aaron went and assembled all the elders of the sons of Israel; 30 and Aaron spoke all the words which the LORD had spoken to Moses. He then performed the signs in the sight of the people. 31 So the people believed; and when they heard that the LORD was concerned about the sons of Israel and that He had seen their affliction, then they bowed low and worshiped.

Exit Zipporah and Moses' two sons, Gershom and Eliezer. We don't see them again until chapter 18, and at that point they are back in Midian and have been, with her father, Moses' father-in-law. When she returned to Midian we aren't told. It could have been immediately after the circumcision incident, or perhaps later. It is not likely that she would have returned to Midian by herself with her sons. Nevertheless there is an immediate contrast in her attitude and that of Aaron and the Hebrews in Egypt.

Meanwhile back in Egypt, God comes to Aaron and instructs him to go to Moses in the desert, in the mountain region of Horeb. The specific mountain is not specified. Even Sinai is not mentioned, but where ever people come together in worship, that place in Gods mountain.

The means of communication to Aaron is not mentioned nor the directions he received. Aaron has not seen Moses for 40 years and to simply go out into the desert and find him without guidance would be difficult. God led him.

Aaron did not hesitate.

Moses, when they met, told Aaron all that he had been instructed to tell and show. The implication here is that Aaron had no difficulty in believing all immediately. Aaron was probably a better Bible student than Moses at this point, with respect to the study of whatever scripture information he had available to him.

They proceeded to Egypt and immediately called together the elders, again revealing all that God had instructed them. This information was then disseminated to the people in general. The reaction was an emotional one. They all fell down in prayer and thanksgiving. They bowed low in humility. Their release was close at hand. But remember that God stated that it would not be immediate. Pharaoh would refuse and there would be a series of miracles before Pharaoh would give up.

During this course of stubbornness of Pharaoh, the Israelites would become fickle and vacillate between their worship of God and bitterness toward Moses.

So the chapter ends and such is life. Life does not always go as we would like it to go. The world is full of ups and downs, of obstacles, of heartaches, and such. If at the first sign of difficulty we begin to condemn others or even God, then our spiritual life is wanting. The mature believer may certainly go through his or her own emotional swings, but the big difference between a mature believer and an immature believer is the speed of recovery of recognizing their failure and their return back into fellowship. For the mature believer this will be a short period. For the immature believer this will be a longer period before recovery.

Moses has had his share of weaknesses. Aaron will have his share. Zipporah will just leave with her two sons. The Hebrews will have their oscillating moments. When we get out of Egypt and spend 40 years out in the desert, and prior to crossing the Jordan River, the entire generation will have to be circumcised. So the rejection or resistance to God is not simply limited to the Zipporah, Moses incident. The entire nation will be deficient in their compliance with Gods commands. In spite of their seeing Gods leadership every day and night for those 40 years (the cloud and pillar of fire). Not to mention variety of miracles during that time.

Moses had been away from Egypt for 40 years. He has not been forgotten. Nor has he been rejected. His initial fears of running into a contentious people were unfounded. Often we set ourselves up with fears lacking any foundation, and in so doing that, we defeat ourselves before we begin anything in life. Or better yet we do not begin things in life because of our fears. We look for excuses as to why we will fail and then simply don't start.

All that God had stated that would occur, did in fact happen. The Hebrews accepted him and they believed. But then it is easy to be on an emotional high in the privacy and security of ones own Bible group. Now the message has to be taken to Pharaoh. An entirely different matter. This is the application of Bible doctrine to daily life. The world does not readily accept Gods word. In fact it rejects it and at times violently. If God be on our side (and He always is if we are consistent in our Bible study), then no one can stand against us. They can certainly yell and scream and kick and spit and cuss and such and make life miserable for believers, but Gods will, will be the victor in the end.

Now one more passing thought, now that the bad guys are on the run in Afghanistan. Right always carries a greater stick than the bad guys. No matter how small or big the bad guys might happen to be, right always comes along to defeat them. The law is greater than the little criminal. The Allies were greater than the Nazi's. The USA is certainly greater than this terrorist group. Today we see great examples of right coming out on top. We have also seen good examples of right going sour and thus failing as in Viet Nam. One day an anti-christ will arise after the rapture of the church. He will probably be someone like this Laden fellow, only with greater power. Christ will return at the second advent to crush that evil.

God always holds the trump card. Without God in our lives we would inevitably fail. Mankind has no resources great enough to survive either on the personal level or on national levels. Expect set backs and barriers from an unrelenting world, but hold fast to your faith and stick with your Bible study, despite your being ticked off at any given point in your life, for whatever reason. Get over it and move forward.

Now is the time to post a prayer.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
