Exodus 4:10-17

Lesson # Exodus 4:10-17
Study Material - Exodus 4:10-17

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Ex. 4:10-17

10 Then Moses said to the LORD, 'Please, Lord, I have never been eloquent, neither recently nor in time past, nor since Thou hast spoken to Thy servant; for I am slow of speech and slow of tongue.' 11 And the LORD said to him, 'Who has made man's mouth? Or who makes him dumb or deaf, or seeing or blind? Is it not I, the LORD? 12 'Now then go, and I, even I, will be with your mouth, and teach you what you are to say.' 13 But he said, 'Please, Lord, now send the message by whomever Thou wilt.' 14 Then the anger of the LORD burned against Moses, and He said, 'Is there not your brother Aaron the Levite? I know that he speaks fluently. And moreover, behold, he is coming out to meet you; when he sees you, he will be glad in his heart. 15 And you are to speak to him and put the words in his mouth; and I, even I, will be with your mouth and his mouth, and I will teach you what you are to do. 16 Moreover, he shall speak for you to the people; and it shall come about that he shall be as a mouth for you, and you shall be as God to him. 17 And you shall take in your hand this staff, with which you shall perform the signs.'

It would seem that the phrase, 'Better to quite while you are ahead,' would apply here. But Moses just keeps on in his excuses. His words are forceful. 'But, I can't speak very well. I'm not a good public speaker. My tongue has been slow since I can remember.' 'But! But! But!'

Moses just did not want to go back to Egypt. Remember that he was wanted for murder and there were many who were after his hide. Besides the Hebrews had already rejected him and he was still a little put off by that.

God reminds him that it is God who invented and created the mouth, and the eye. Didn't God just show Moses a healthy hand turned leprous, turned back to a healthy hand? Didn't God show Moses a stick turned to a snake, turned back into a stick? Wasn't Moses educated in Egypt and powerful in written words as well as deeds, Acts 7:22? Didn't Moses just pick up a very poisonous snake by the tail? Didn't Moses walk across the desert some 40 years ago and take on some young buck shepherds who were harassing some girls watering their sheep? Didn't Moses act quickly in all of his deeds?

The answer is yes, of course, but Moses is now whining and trying to find some error in Gods judgment - politely. God states that he will teach him all that he is to say. God states that He, God, will be his mouth. Moses' eloquence will be elevated significantly. Where is Moses' faith? Well it is there, Heb 11, but it needs to grow somewhat, and it will.

Moses is now demoted. He was to be the sole representative of God before Pharaoh, but Moses wants someone else to go and speak the words. Aaron, Moses brother, who is three years older will stand beside Moses.

Now notice that Aaron will hear the words from Moses (not God) and will not hesitate in joining the mission and thus speaking to Pharaoh. Moses has spoken to God direct and hesitates. Moses thinks that the Hebrews will not listen since they will hear the words from Moses rather than direct from God, yet Moses is speaking direct to God and he still is looking for excuses. Further Moses is guilty of his own excuses he ascribes to the Hebrews, and Moses is wrong in his evaluation of their response.

In the next few months Moses is going to change dramatically. He will be offered a chance to stay in Egypt and continue his life there. What don't see that? Well you will. Its just prior to the first plague. Moses is going to experience a transition in his mind. On the way he will get very sick because of disobedience to Gods commands, and his wife is going to get very ticked off at him.

But for now, his staff, his walking stick, the same stick that was his favorite stick, the very one that he has been carrying around for some time now, the same that was turned into a snake, will be his reminder that God is with him. Moses is commanded to take his sick and to show Pharaoh, through the use of the sticks actions, that God can do more with a stick than Pharaoh can do with all his military, slaves, and wealth put together. There is more power in Gods little finger than in all the universe.

Regardless of what you consider are your defects in life, God can do more with your defects, than anyone in history can do though they may be considered perfect specimens of humanity. In the spiritual life there is no such thing as a defect. The spiritual life is the quintessence of perfection.

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
