Exodus 4:6-9
Lesson # Exodus 4:6-9
Study Material - Exodus 4:6-9
You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.
Ex. 4:6-9
6 And the LORD furthermore said to him, 'Now put your hand into your bosom.' So he put his hand into his bosom, and when he took it out, behold, his hand was leprous like snow. 7 Then He said, 'Put your hand into your bosom again.' So he put his hand into his bosom again; and when he took it out of his bosom, behold, it was restored like the rest of his flesh. 8 And it shall come about that if they will not believe you or heed the witness of the first sign, they may believe the witness of the last sign. 9 But it shall be that if they will not believe even these two signs or heed what you say, then you shall take some water from the Nile and pour it on the dry ground; and the water which you take from the Nile will become blood on the dry ground.'
Miracles are for those who do not believe. Doctrine is for those who want to learn and grow, 1 Cor. 14:22.
Moses is not convinced, or rather he is convinced that this is God speaking to Him, that God is able to do anything, but there is still a gap in what he perceives and what his faith lets him trust. His level of confidence is lacking.
The snake miracle should have been enough to convince anyone, but God is gracious and gives Moses two more miracles to demonstrate that he indeed is Gods messenger. The leprous hand and then the turning of water into blood. God demonstrates the hand miracle, but only explains the water into blood miracle.
Moses places his hand inside his shirt and across his chest. His hand is hidden from his sight. Gods miracles are beyond our comprehension. Surely with our technology of today and our understanding of the basic fundamentals of the universe, we can logically assume that there was some sort of matter transformation, or speedy corruption of his hand then a speedy recovery (in seconds literally). But though this miracle was performed some 3500 years ago, we still today, with all our understanding and technology, cannot duplicate these miracles in a legitimate fashion. Now magicians can bring about the illusion of the transformations, but those are just tricks, not the real thing. The whiteness as snow indicates the extreme advanced stage of leprosy, something that is incurrable even with today's advanced medical science.
The first sign would probably convince those who were already, sort of, leaning toward God. The second miracle would convince those who were a little more skeptical. Both of these signs demonstrate Gods power over the laws of nature and human health. God can change them at will, and restore them to their original state. The last miracle, the changing of the Nile water into blood was not reversed. The Nile is considered to be the life of Egypt. To take it away would mean certain death for the economy and the nation. It would not take all of these miracles for the elders of Israel to listen to Moses, but Moses would not hold them back none the less.
As for Pharaoh, it would take ten miracles, to make him release the people. Even then Pharaoh would not change his attitude toward God who would by that time have demonstrated His total superiority to Pharaoh and his gods.
So Moses is armed with all sorts of weapons for convincing his people. Wouldn't this be enough? No. Moses is still anxious about the mission he is being called to do. More on that tomorrow. Suffice to say, do not tempt Gods patience.
In this life God give us all the tools necessary to function in life. If you choose to stick your head in the sand and ignore the resources you have, then you are at fault. Moses was given information, then three miracles. None of which originated from himself. All came from God. But Moses still whined about his abilities to convince his people as well as Pharaoh.
Moses missed the whole point. The Word of God is alive and powerful. The Word of God convinces or rebukes. Moses was merely a messenger yet he was acting as though the people would look at him personally as to the content of what he was going to tell them. He was taking it all personal. In life we should not take anything personal, but merely live our life in accordance with Gods will and let Him take care of all those opinionated people out there. Life does not depend on you or me, but on God and how people relate to Him.
God will communicate the truth, and people have the right and freedom to choose either for Him or against Him.
Now is the time to post a prayer.
