Exodus 3:8

Lesson # Exodus 3:8
Study Material - Exodus 3:8

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Ex. 3:8

8 So I have come down to deliver them from the power of the Egyptians, and to bring them up from that land to a good and spacious land, to a land flowing with milk and honey, to the place of the Canaanite and the Hittite and the Amorite and the Perizzite and the Hivite and the Jebusite.

In yesterdays lesson we reviewed briefly the list of nations that exist in the land of Canaan. Nations come and go. Life does not stand still. The list of nations is not the important item but rather the land that is occupied by them.

These lists change slightly, but they all have a couple of things in common. First they all occupy land that does not belong to them. The land belongs to Abraham and his descendants. These nations are neither. Second these nations are descendants of Ham, not Shem. Shem is the line of the promise of salvation, through whom the savior would come into the world. Though all three sons of Noah most probably were saved, the line of Christ goes through only one of them.

The Canaanites were cursed back in Ham's day. Ham did a no, no with his dad and that was the basis for the curse of his descendant, Canaan. Of course it won't be until about 900 years later when the Israelites will enter into the land under the leadership of Joshua, but the sin of Ham, the sin of his homosexual act of degeneracy was the format for the curse. Ham was not cursed. Canaan was. Ham was a black man. Canaan was not. The point is that the curse was not for the color of the person, nor does it follow color, but rather it follows the attitude of the soul.

The residents of Canaan were corrupt. No one made them that way. They made themselves that way. They were not 100 % descendants of a single line, but from various lines as the list of nations indicates. They lived in close proximity, but so did they live close to Syria, Egypt, as well as the place where the Israelites lived.

Gods word was available to all of them. This is clear by virtue of the fact that some Egyptians as well as other foreigners will go with the Hebrews, out from Egypt. This was clear when we studied the midwives who had been influenced by the God of Israel, Jesus Christ. By the way, there is only one God represented in the entire Bible, and Jesus Christ is that God. There was not a different God in the Old Testament who then retired for some reason and let Christ take over after the Cross. That idea is of course nonsense.

Now, God has a land, a place where we can all call home. It is a land of great prosperity and freedom and peace. This is a spiritual place, but we are looking at the land of Canaan in this context as a teaching aid to help us learn the concept of the spiritual life the benefits of it.

The land flows with milk and honey. Milk, 'chalab', stands for the freshest of new milks, the sweet milk with all the natural cream content (we won't worry about cholesterol and such). It is produced by the mother for her new born calf. The child is the recipient of nourishment for which he/she did nothing to earn.

Honey, 'jabash', stands for the natural honeycomb. Its sweetness indicates the satisfaction and the pleasantness of life. Again, the adult eats the honeycomb not the child. The adult does nothing to earn or deserve the honey dripping freely from the comb. The honey comes freely and apart from the effort of the person receiving it.

The land is a huge chunk of real estate, stretching from the Euphrates to the Nile. So there is plenty of room for everyone. And that is the spiritual life. Plenty of room. All who believe in Christ are admitted as 100% citizens. All are given from the free flowing blessings of the land (subject to its rules of law - sin is omitted). All blessings come from God and no one else. God is the source of all things. There is no other source.

The land of Canaan will be entered in 40 years but when they do enter it, they will find rich vineyards and such things. Though these things were planted and maintained by evil peoples, the jungle in which they live also has its pockets of richness, but then all things rich or poor in the jungle have their limitations. In the jungle things grow and die. In heaven things are born and never die. They continue forever.

The believer who advances to spiritual maturity will witness the blessings of God in their own life. The land of peace, and milk, and honey is the mature status of the believer with maximum Bible doctrine learned and constantly applied to ones daily life.

Now is the time to post a prayer.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
