Ecclesiastes 6:12

Lesson # Eccl. 6:12
Study Material - Eccl. 6:12

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Eccl. 6:12

12 For who knows what is good for a man during his lifetime, during the few years of his futile life? He will spend them like a shadow. For who can tell a man what will be after him under the sun?

A rhetorical question, 'Who knows?', and who knows what is good for man. It is a negative in that man does not know what is good for himself. The world is filled with philosophies, with varying types of governments, religions, academic philosophies, advertising media, personal opinions, public opinion, news media opinion. Nearly all are biased in some sense.

Mankind has never had nor possessed the wisdom to determine for himself what is good or bad for mankind. Mans standards are relative generally to who is in charge and what is popular for the day. Do we burn witches today, or is that a bad thing now? Do we encourage suicide murder or is that a bad thing? You get a different answer depending on who is talking.

Look to any talk show, and there are a bunch of them these days. There are always differences of opinion. In government there are always those who would abuse their powers and positions. Even in social clubs, gossip is the tool of choice to ostracize others. Politics play a role in the office. Look all around and you'll see that if man was left to his own devices, then this jungle would have self destructed long ago. Noah's time is a good example of how long lives contribute to the exaggerated evil in the world. Better shorter life spans to help control mans sinful nature.

Were is not for the influence of Gods Word on society, since the time of Adam (Jesus Christ was the one walking in the Garden with Adam), then man would have no perfect standard with which to gauge himself, nor even check himself for error. Man with his own devices is a total failure.

How long? Well, our life span is said to be but a shadow. It never remains stable I one place. It comes and goes with the degree of light available. A shadow is merely the result of some interference of light by another object, and by days end, the shadow is no more. Shadows are not real. Mans life without God is not real. Solomon has already stated that it would be far better to have never existed than to live life and then be cast into the lake of fire forever. Forever is a long time.

Our life here on earth is quick. A few years, perhaps 80 for the most of us on average. But then some will not see much beyond 20, and some even fewer. We do not know what God has planned for us. We had no say in our birth. We have no say in our death. Will we all be here tomorrow? Hummm! What in life can you guarantee? Nothing. But arrogance thinks that we can guarantee a job, a wage, an education, a life. Then the twists of life fall down all around us and we end up in a wheel chair, divorced, handicapped, unemployed, reputation destroyed, or worse. This of course is life in the jungle. Birth starts us down that path, and death terminates our trip.

Solomon gives us a lot of views from the perspective of humanity without a spiritual life. The prospects are not good. Ignore God, be apathetic, be antagonistic against God, pursue some false god (some idea that appeals to you), or just hustle through life thinking that all will end up ok in the end (because you really are a good person), and you'll learn too late that you are the fool.

No one can tell what tomorrow will bring, except God. So we either learn to trust in His Word, or we find something better! And we should know that there is nothing better.

There is a lot of false teaching out there in the world. Even among so called Christian authorities there are false teachings blended in with their true statements. Our defense? Listen to the various talk in the world, study your Bible daily and gain insight from Gods Word little by little, day by day, and then let Gods Word help you sort out the good from the false. Don't get in a hurry to jump on band wagons. There are a lot of them out there that could be popular in the beholders eye. Avoid the jungle lest you get bit or worse. Simply stay in fellowship and grow up spiritually. You are never going to change the jungle, but you will change your life for the better, and to you, that is the most important thing you can ever possess, ever - your own spiritual life. Guard your steps as you enter the house of God (fellowship), draw near (a daily habit), listen (concentrate), learn (build up your spiritual assets), and do not get caught up in the life style of fools (human viewpoint).

We will resume our study tomorrow in Isaiah. The Apostle Paul of the Old Testament.

Now is the time to post a prayer.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
