Ecclesiastes 5:13-17

Lesson # Eccl. 5:13-17
Study Material - Eccl. 5:13-17

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Eccl. 5:13-17

13 There is a grievous evil which I have seen under the sun: riches being hoarded by their owner to his hurt. 14 When those riches were lost through a bad investment and he had fathered a son, then there was nothing to support him. 15 As he had come naked from his mother's womb, so will he return as he came. He will take nothing from the fruit of his labor that he can carry in his hand. 16 And this also is a grievous evil-- exactly as a man is born, thus will he die. So, what is the advantage to him who toils for the wind? 17 Throughout his life he also eats in darkness with great vexation, sickness and anger.

Attitude is everything in life. Attitude determines the direction of your life. If you are positive toward God, then your options in life increase. If you are negative toward God, then your interests lie in the things of this world and your options diminish significantly.

Too often we have felt that we deserve more out of life. We are sometimes given the false impression that if we are good, or if we do that which is expected of us, there will be the 'happily ever after', or the 'riding off into the sunset' pattern of life. Many religions or theological teachings give this impression as well, and they are often misleading.

We seek God in one respect, but we really want that security, that big bank account, that prosperity, that better life, the image of which, sort of sits right up inside our heads. We have learned that if we follow the rules, if we study Bible doctrine, that these things will somehow magically occur in our lives, and we have missed the point of life entirely. Where are those promises? Well they are there, you have just messed up in your spiritual life and somehow got off track. Bitterness sometimes sets in and that can trap us for years.

Has God cheated us? Have our parents or teachers, or society lied to us? Well, yes and no. So now we have to look into the mirror of our lives and decide to get things straight. God told Paul once upon a time, that His grace was sufficient for him. Paul was asking for a thorn (a problem in his life, a desire he so much wished to come true for him), would be removed and that he would somehow be better off by this prayer being answered. That answer to Paul is the same for each on of us.

Here we have been studying the rules of life. We know that there are rules that govern the universe - science and such stuff. There are rules that govern economies - buy low, sell high. Rules that govern society - norms and standards. There are rules that govern everything in life. It is when these rules are ignored, that things get screwed up. For example, communism is a violation of the concepts of free enterprise, liberty, justice and such. Gossip is a violation of privacy, and so forth. These rules are extensive and apply to all peoples - believers and unbelievers alike. This is why wicked people prosper. They understand business or marketing, or they can run illegal scams and they take advantage of ignorant folks.

No one who lives by these rules, and these are rules of the jungle by the way, no one will ever gain anything, nor get away with anything in life. Justice will always come to meet them sooner or later. The person who focuses his life on the hoarding of material things is an example of the most grievous evil in life as Solomon states. This is also an example of one of the most futile efforts and poor decisions in life. All is lost. The person only destroys them self. Trapped by bitterness, and hot in the pursuit of that which they feel they are owed, or entitled to, they drive themselves right over the cliff of failure in life.

The bad investment? What is that? The decision to pursue the pleasures of the world, the things of the world, rather than to pursue Gods Word. Whatever inheritance you leave your children is nothing and can lead them to become spiritual indigents. Better to make the right decisions in life and leave your children with proper instruction, than to leave them with all the gold in the world.

Oh yes, the 'grace is all you need,' thing. God has given us all grace. We are born into this world naked and helpless. We cannot feed ourselves, nor change ourselves. When we die, we are again naked (the physical body is empty of its living soul), and we are again helpless. We cannot even bury ourselves. Others have to do that for us. When you die, an angel will escort either to heaven and a new phase of your life, or you will be slapped in chains and escorted into Torments awaiting the final judgment - the Great White Throne. Believe in Christ and you'll miss the Great White Throne event. You do not want to be in that judgment.

But on earth we have been given grace. We all have a talent of some type. We have all been given some mechanism with which to make a living. Too many people don't like their talent or skill and they spend their time wishing for something better. They should be learning Gods Word, so that God given talent will blossom into an even greater skill, and therefore blessing.

Will we all win the lottery? No. Remember the rules of the jungle? Math and random numbers is part of that set of rules. If you play the game twice a week for forty years, then how many winners could there possibly be? 40 * 52 * 2 = 4160, and you know that not every drawing renders a winner. So that number is even smaller. How many millions of people are trying to be one of those 4000? Millions.

Better to train your thoughts on Gods Word, where there is a certainty of winning in life. His grace is sufficient for all of us, far more than sufficient to provide us with everything that we could possibly want in life, and more.

To pursue the jungle, the darkness therein will trap you and you'll never be free, nor successful. But if you give up your bitterness, your wishful thinking and frustration, and pursue your spiritual life then that dream you have in your head, will slowly change to a better dream, and, it will come true. Don't waste your life in bitterness, or wishful pursuits. They won't gain you anything.

Now is the time to post a prayer.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
