Ecclesiastes 3:4-5
Lesson # Eccl. 3:4-5
Study Material - Eccl. 3:4-5
You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.
Eccl. 3:4-5
4 A time to weep, and a time to laugh; A time to mourn, and a time to dance. 5 A time to throw stones, and a time to gather stones; A time to embrace, and a time to shun embracing.
Though we are running through several examples of events in a typical life, remember that in this book, Solomon is giving us a human view of life. Gods view is given in contrast in the next book in the Bible, the Song of Solomon.
We will still look to the parallels in Solomon's views here in Ecclesiastes. When you have no Bible doctrine in your soul, then you have only the things you have learned from the world, from your family life, work life, social life, school life and so forth. Often we may feel vulnerable and out of touch in life.
We might have good times on occasion, and then bad times. We fall in and out of love. It is exciting in the beginning. The anticipation makes us all bubbly inside, then the bubble bursts and our hearts are torn apart.
Our family life can have its great times. The kids score the winning points. They sing their hearts out in the school choir, they debate well, pass their tests. They also have their bad sides - those sweet little angels can turn to little devils and their tempers can drive you up the wall. There can be conflict in the family, divorce with a vengeance, or just defending your self in social situations.
There are times of loss - a job, a family member is injured or even death visits your family or close friends. The frustrations, the grieving all take their toll on your emotions and energies. But there are also times of partying and dancing - a promotion, and new child is born, a wedding, a graduation. Things that let us celebrate life while putting our problems on hold, at least for a day or so.
To throw stones is to tear down barriers. Things that prevent us from advancing in life. To gather stones is to build up, to construct something of meaning, something that will endure, something that we can feel good about.
To embrace or not, covers mood swings. Emotions are a part of our lives. Sometimes we control others by how we deal with them. We are friendly one day and cold toward them the next.
Such is life. Full of contrasts, of emotional swings, of attitude changes, of fickleness. There is no stability in the life when Bible doctrine is left out. In contrast, Bible study and spiritual growth produces stability in ones life. No matter how we feel we treat others with respect and consistency. Our spiritual growth gives us an inner happiness, such that when hard times hit us we are ready mentally. We maintain our poise. We are relaxed and think through the problem and move forward to the solution. Spiritually strong people are not exempt from the problems or hardships of this life, they just have the resources (spiritual resources) to deal with them.
Bible study builds up a temple in your soul, a palace built on the rock foundation of Gods word rather than a palace built on the sand of human viewpoint and its instability. Life has its swings and you cannot get away from them. Adam could not, and nothing in our current day has changed. We still have pressures from many sources. With no reliable security to help us through, then life is just a roller coaster.
Bible study provides that security, that stability. We can see that all things in this life are simply details of which we may have for a while and may lose at any moment. Our own life, a home, a family, a job, things we enjoy. All of these are details of life which we should never rely on for our well being. Certainly enjoy what things and relationships you have while you have them. Do not be dull and look negatively toward future potential losses, but live every day, one day at a time. Do not get trapped in the mood swings that circumstances in life can place you in. Stick with your Bible study for that will last you forever. Enjoy the details of life that God provides us all, as they enhance your life and they even provide you some teaching in the ways of life around you.
Organize your life and build up toward a goal of spiritual maturity, and then maintain it by continuing your studies everyday of your life.
Now is the time to post a prayer.
End Of Lesson
Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
