Eccl. 1:9-11

Lesson # Eccl. 1:9-11
Study Material - Eccl. 1:9-11

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Eccl. 1:9-11

9 That which has been is that which will be, And that which has been done is that which will be done. So, there is nothing new under the sun. 10 Is there anything of which one might say, 'See this, it is new'? Already it has existed for ages Which were before us. 11 There is no remembrance of earlier things; And also of the later things which will occur, There will be for them no remembrance Among those who will come later still.

Remember that we are looking at life and its meaning through the human viewpoint, and from the perspective of Bible doctrine. So many of these statements are in fact true statements. The error comes in not learning them and in not learning of the flaws that life has to offer.

We can look to invention and life. We see things never invented before, yet they are only things, not life. Work and pleasure. This is what invention gives us. Work is easier, more productive. Convenience and more time for the pleasant things in life are one result. But what of man and his soul? What has changed there?

That which has been shell be again. Man has not changed. We have made advances in knowledge of the universe. We have made discoveries that improve our health, our business, our life in general. We boast of the new technologies and make light humor of the old. 'After all, it is the 21st century.' A century ago this was said as well, 'After all it is the 20th century,', 'After all we use electricity now', 'After all we have the wheel now.' No matter where you might have been in time the statements of the current were made to imply some sort of superior position in life because we were in the 'now', rather than in the past.

We do not remember the past. After all where are those people anyway? Well, they are where we too will be in the future - dead. But we do not remember the future either. We ignore our inevitable destiny with death.

And what of mans soul? The sin list remains the same. Arrogance is still with us. It is the grand daddy of all sin and from it evolves all other sins. So do we still get frustrated in life? Do we ever feel guilty, angry, jealous, desire revenge, covet things we don't have, and so on throughout the entire sin list? Is there any change from Cain? Cain rejected Gods rules and ended up in anger against Abel and Abel's murder. Men's hearts, and the corruption's of them, are still the same. Their desires, and pursuits, and complaints, are still the same.

What God does in his dealings with men is according to the scriptures. Even that it is all repetition. Man does wrong and he gets punished. Man does right and he gets blessed. And the sun rises and the sun falls, then it repeats itself again.

So the folly in looking to invention or selective memory. Those things repeat themselves, the horse, the steam engine, the gasoline engine, the rocket engine, the nuclear engine. So what has changed other than the ability to complete work faster and more efficiently. And for our individual souls? We learn but we do not learn. The soul does not run on hay, gas, or jet fuel. The soul requires spiritual fuel to thrive otherwise it wastes away.

The repetition of life should teach us that there is, or must be, something better in life for our peace of mind, for our inner happiness, for our inner security, for our stability within our souls. To ignore these testimonies from life is to be foolish in life. To seek the truth is the beginning of wisdom. The desire to learn is the beginning of orientation to life.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
