Dan. 12:11-13

Lesson # Dan. 12:11-13
Study Material - Dan. 12:11-13

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Dan. 12:11-13

11 'And from the time that the regular sacrifice is abolished, and the abomination of desolation is set up, there will be 1,290 days. 12 'How blessed is he who keeps waiting and attains to the 1,335 days! 13 'But as for you, go your way to the end; then you will enter into rest and rise again for your allotted portion at the end of the age.'

Many commentaries have explained these numbers in quite a number of theories. Some call them years and place the end of the world in the mid 1800's. Obviously that did not occur. Some have placed them during the time of Antiochus, when he stopped the sacrifices and set up the image of Zeus in the Temple. But those dates lack historical documentation, and even in our earlier study of Daniel, the phrase 'this is not the end time' is repeated a couple of times when the history of the Seleucid and Ptolemy dynasties were described.

This passage describes a 'change' in the daily sacrifices, not necessarily the termination of them. That change is the origin of the 1290 day period. The terminus of that period is the setting up of an abomination here on earth. So since we look to this period of time, that is, the dispensation of the Age of Israel, as the sole period to which these prophecies apply (recall that the Church Age is not a part of the Old Testament and was kept secret), then the Age of Israel was interrupted 50 days following the Cross. The Cross was held immediately prior to the Passover Feast. Fifty days later is Pentecost. That is the marked beginning of the Church Age. It was at this time that the Holy Spirit was given and came into the Apostles, and believers alike, but the Apostles began speaking in tongues (human languages, not gibberish) as a sign of this indwelling of the Holy Spirit - the initial event. Today we are all indwelled by the Holy Spirit from the moment we believe in Christ. And you do not feel it, nor sense it in any way. There is no sensation or emotion involved by this indwelling. He is just inside you, period.

Anyway, we also know that at the mid point in the Tribulation, Satan will be evicted from heaven. The abomination of desolations are most probably both the ejection of Satan out of heaven and down to earth, seizing and possessing the anti-christ, and the setting up an abomination in the then existing temple in Jerusalem. Taking the fifty days from the Cross and subtracting them from the 1290 days, there are 1240 days remaining during the Tribulation (following the Rapture), or the mid point of the Tribulation.

Also, remember that the Cross fulfilled all the Old Testament law, the Mosaic Law, which included the sacrifices. Once the Cross was concluded, then all sacrifices were abolished. At least from heavens perspective. Certainly here on earth sacrifices continued until God finally brought the Romans to Israel in 70 AD to finally put the kabosh on the temple practices.

We know that from Revelation there will be two periods of 3 1/2 years. That is 42 months each half of the Tribulation, or 1260 days in each phase. The Bible is interpreted in the time in which it was written, and the Jews used a lunar calendar or 30 day months, and 360 day years. Every few years they would adjust their calendar by adding an extra month in the year to get things back into sync with true time (ie. 365 days per year which we recognize in our current day with our leap year adjustment etc.).

The 1335 days period is not tied to anything but that anyone who survives (waits) until that time, then blessing will come to them. This implies deliverance or rescue. Waiting on the Lord is a common phrase in the Bible. Therefore, he who is on top of current events in the Tribulation, will recognize the significance of the coming abomination. One would think that this event would take some time to construct, announce and then celebrate its dedication to the world in some type of ceremony. People will have a little time to see it coming and to get out, as Christ indicated in Matthew. For once the abomination occurs, that means two things. Satan is now on earth permanently, having been kicked out of heaven, and Satan is in a panic for his very survival. All hell is about to break loose. So at the last minute when this abomination is revealed, or dedicated, then there will be no time to pack or plan ones trip to the mountains and away from society. The persecutions will be coming and coming fast and furious. Better to recognize these events early and have time to prepare for ones survival for the remainder of the Tribulation, than to procrastinate in indecision, and discover it is too late. After all, indecision with regard to Christ, prior to the Rapture got these people into the Tribulation in the first place. Had they believed prior to the Rapture, then they wouldn't be there during the Tribulation.

Daniel is told, as we are now told, 'go your way'. Go on with life, live it, finish it and wait until the resurrection, etc. It is at time when we will receive our 'allotted portion' for eternity. Prophecy is interesting, and excites the imagination, but it is not what we use in our daily life. We are to know it for what it is, but we are to continue in our daily study, remain in fellowship, grow up spiritually, be responsible in life, and so forth. We know that no matter what problems we face in life, whether we simply made big or small mistakes ourselves and brought our problems on ourselves, or whether we are a victim of the actions of others (including nature, bureaucracy, etc.), or both, we need to forget that which is behind us (we cannot change the past), and look forward in our spiritual life. Our greatest future is found in Gods Word. We seize that future by learning and applying Gods Word to our life.

Solutions will come to all of our problems sooner or later. Sometimes we will live to see them disappear. Sometimes we will move on and into eternity and thus our problems disappear permanently, depending on what those problems might be. Nevertheless all problems cease when we leave this world, obviously (if, that is, we are believers in Christ).

In the next life, in eternity, we all have an allotment of blessing. That allotment is based on our spiritual status. For us, of the Church Age, that allotment will be awarded at the Judgment Seat of Christ, which immediately follows the Rapture. There we will be cleansed of that wood, hay, and stubble of human viewpoint, human good, human filth, etc. from our soul, which we have accumulated throughout our life on earth, and then what remains is whatever we have invested in our soul. For many there won't be remaining, but a bare soul. For some there will be very little wood and hay, and substantial gold, silver, and precious stones of great value (Bible doctrine) remaining in the soul. This is or goal of daily Bible study. God gave us capital for investment (Bible doctrine). Are we responsible and do we invest it wisely, that is learn it, and grow up to spiritual maturity? Or are we negative and apathetic toward Gods Word and thus learn nothing throughout our lives?

The rewards, awards, privileges, and so forth are described in the first three chapters of Revelation. We have already studied those passages. Those blessings are beyond all we can possibly imagine or think, therefore they are extremely valuable and should not be ignored, for they will carry us through eternity. And that is a very long time.

If you wish you had a better life here on earth, and just do not see that happening, in time, then consider eternity, which is a much more extended period of time. On earth we cannot change the circumstances of our birth, or IQ, our 'luck' as it were, but we can enhance our eternal life. On earth there are many road blocks to success, but we only need to study Bible doctrine and to grow up spiritually to insure, to secure, a greater eternal life, and one far beyond even the greatest of success stories here on earth.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
