Dan. 9:22-23
Lesson # Dan. 9:22-23
Study Material - Dan. 9:22-23
You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.
Dan. 9:22-23
22 And he gave me instruction and talked with me, and said, 'O Daniel, I have now come forth to give you insight with understanding. 23 'At the beginning of your supplications the command was issued, and I have come to tell you, for you are highly esteemed; so give heed to the message and gain understanding of the vision.
Daniel was a thinking person. Some people hear words, hear stories and then go back to whatever they were doing with not much thought beyond the story. Daniel has had information delivered to him concerning the gentile nations, beginning with Babylon and continuing through the Second Advent. But what of the nation of Israel, his country? He was in captivity and has been for several decades. He reads the book of Jeremiah and reads of the seventy year period that will pass since the destruction of Jerusalem, and then there will be a restoration of sorts, of his people back to Jerusalem.
As we said yesterday, not many have followed their traditions of ritual and worship as they should. So would this return promise be canceled? Therefore the prayer of repentance for himself and his people. The admission of their total worthlessness, and of Gods total righteousness. Gods reputation is at stake here not Daniel's, not the Jewish people.
Yet when Gabriel comes to Daniel he reports that when the prayer began (God has known in eternity past that Daniel would offer this prayer and at this specific time in history), the order was issued. It was nothing that Daniel had said that caused God to issue this command, but God had decided in eternity past that this would be the time in history to disclose the savior's birth, and the end of the Age of Israel. Actually what was revealed was the time frame of the remainder of the dispensation of Israel. The Church Age was not disclosed.
Would this bring the people around, if they knew now when the Savior would come into the world? We haven't finished the book of Daniel yet but there will be a further disclosure of detailed history of the next 500 years. Will people follow this disclosure? Well several Magi did when the time of Christ's birth was at hand, when they sought after and followed a star referenced in Num. 24:17. Interesting that gentiles studied the scriptures more than most (but not all) of the Jewish Priests in the time of Christ.
Daniel was revered in heaven, beloved, highly esteemed. Why? All have sinned. All righteousness of men is as filthy rags (Isaiah's definition). Daniel himself confessed his own sins. So we know that he had failures in his life. His sins are not disclosed, but no matter. A sin is a sin is a sin, etc. Whatever he did or thought and was in error within his life, he confessed in the proper manner. This is not a one time confession but a pattern of ongoing practice. He worshipped daily. He studied daily. And certainly he confessed daily in order to maintain a fellowship relationship with God. We have already seen his practice of praying and worshipping in his home, regularly, as have those who conspired against him. His spiritual status is the basis of his being held in high esteem in heaven. This applies to you as well if you follow a daily practice of spiritual growth in your life.
Honor belongs to God and to those things that are from God. Salvation, doctrine, eternal life, spiritual maturity, wisdom, etc. are all from God. None of them are from our own doing, nor did we originate any of the doctrine we learn. 'All doctrine is God breathed, and profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness. That the man (woman) of God might be mature, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.'
All doctrine is given that we might understand it and at the proper time. These events have obviously come to pass, except for the events that pertain to the anti-christ and the Second Advent. So we have the benefit of hindsight. Daniel will hear the message, has seen the visions of his past, and now is going to get a thorough explanation of it all.
History does not revolve any certain worldly event (economic theories of history, geographical theories, great man theories, technological theories, etc.), nor even mankind's existence. History revolves around attitude toward Christ, Gods plan, and the Cross. The Cross is the focal point of history, and the key upon which everything depends. Apart from the Cross, there would be no history.
The general population of Israel did not pray, yet God will return them to Jerusalem. They are not esteemed. Daniel did pray. He will not go back to Jerusalem, but he is held in high regard in heaven. What you have, where you live, who you are, your titles (great or small), bank account (great or small), all of the details of your life, all of the things that you think you want out of life, or think that you need, all these are useless in the 'big' picture.
If you have ability, talent, position, etc., then you have a responsibility to use it for your own good and that of others. God gave whatever you have to you, and did not give it lightly or for your own personal abuse or indulgence. What do you do with what you have? How will you handle it? Are you petty, greedy, selfish, caring nothing for others? Are you generous, frugal, responsible, compassionate and so forth?
If God gave you a thing once, can He not give it to you again even a thousand time over? Is the Bible to you a story book where you read only the interesting parts - the Red Sea parted, Gideon, Mary and the baby Jesus? Or is the Bible your university post graduate studies for life, which you want to master and possess, and own within your soul? Where is your passion, your desire, or do you have a whim, a guilt fix from time to time? Are you offended by Isaiah's description of righteousness? Are you are offended by the various descriptions of sexual taboos or even legitimate sex within the Bible, or are you open minded and tougher within your soul, tougher than some skin shallow comments?
Coming up, seventy weeks of years. Sixty nine have passed, one remains.
Now is the time to post a prayer.
End Of Lesson
Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
