Dan. 7:13-14
13 'I kept looking in the night visions, And behold, with the clouds of heaven One like a Son of Man was coming, And He came up to the Ancient of Days And was presented before Him. 14 'And to Him was given dominion, Glory and a kingdom, That all the peoples, nations, and men of every language Might serve Him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion Which will not pass away; And His kingdom is one Which will not be destroyed.
This is not the rapture, nor is it the second advent of Christ, but this is the ascension of Christ (Son of Man) from earth to heaven with emphasis on the pre-glorification of Christ. Several events are herein combined, and we have to look to other verses to separate out the events surrounding this vision of Daniel.
We know that Christ went to the Cross and was judged on the Cross for our sins. Then He died physically after that work of judgment was finished. His being was split up into its three parts - body, soul and spirit. His body went into the grave. His soul went to Paradise which is in the earth, or one of the four compartments in the underworld as explained in Luke 16:19-31. Here there is a story about a rich man and a poor man. The poor man went to Paradise, the rich man went to Torments. The rich man had a conversation with Abraham across a 'great gulf deep'. A barrier that was impossible to cross in either direction. The direction of Paradise here is said to be downward.
Also we know that there is a New Paradise as disclosed in 2 Cor. 12:4. This new Paradise is upward, and in heaven. Christ's spirit went first to Tartarus to make an announcement of His victory on the Cross, thus letting those fallen spirits who were in residence there, that their doom was now sealed. Then Christ's spirit went on to heaven.
After three days in the grave, Christ's soul, and spirit were reunited in His body, which was now a resurrected body making Him the first fruits, the first of many who will later in history be resurrected. We as Church Age believers will be resurrected at the Rapture. The Old Testament believers will be resurrected at the Second Advent along with the Tribulational believers who will die during that tribulation period of seven years, and the last of the believers to be resurrected will be the Millennium believers at the end of the Millennium. So this gives you a rough time line for history.
So now in Daniel's dream we have Christ coming to heaven with clouds. Who are they? When Christ went to heaven He took with him all believers that were in residence in that old Paradise in the underworld. They went to heaven to a New Paradise, Eph. 4:8-10, in a great procession, 2 Cor. 2:14. We too will go to heaven in a great procession following the rapture.
Christ is seen here leading this great procession of captives, Old Testament believers, who had in effect been captives in Paradise pending the victory of Christ on the Cross. Now with the victory, Christ led a great procession as any general would lead a victory parade when he returns back home.
The Christ resurrected returns to the throne where His deity has been since eternity past, the Ancient of Days. From that throne the deity of the Son of God dealt with history and executed judgment as he always had. The returning Christ an the Ancient of Days are one and the same, not two separate persons. This vision merely sees both functions of Christ as God and as Savior, now both coming together into a single glorification as a result of the victory of the Cross.
To Christ the Lord was and is given dominion over all of creation. He is given the kingdom of God which will come into existence on earth, when He returns at the Second Advent, and will continue in a new heaven and earth when human history concludes at the end of the Millennium.
Gods kingdom will never pass away. Mans kingdoms have come and gone. We saw the four last great empires of man and what their end will come to. All set up and functioned contrary to Gods policies despite the fact that they were established by God in the first place. And the final empire, which is being molded now, but is yet to be established, will be the last stand of evil against God in the future.
Why can't mankind see the truth? Because they lack Gods Wisdom in their souls. These days we see more and more suicides murderers in the Middle East. They are fueled by a false religion, which I just can't believe that some on the television say is an honorable faith. Couldn't be further from the truth. I think one person commented that it (Islam) was a philosophy begun be a demon possessed pedophile. Now that is the best description I have heard yet, and an honest one. But folks around the world who are mostly naive, react to this type of statement as offensive. Anyway, so goes the attitude of the world. Stand up and support an evil philosophy, and disregard the evil crimes being committed. Where do you think that this will lead the world? Right you are. Into misery and disaster. We can probably see the pattern of the world over the next several generations as the world population grows and as those who reject God and embrace other false teachings take more of a center stage in world affairs. Problems will grow and violence along with them. No better time to get with a program of Bible study than right now.
As Daniel will state in the next verse, he was distressed. So the world will become distressed in our future, and times will get pretty grim over the next few decades or however long God holds off the Rapture. Until then or until it is time for each one of us to depart this life, we need to get our affairs in order and that means our spiritual growth based on a daily commitment to Bible study.
Now is the time to post a prayer.
End Of Lesson
Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
