You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.
11 He that hath [echo] an ear, [ous] let him hear [akouo] what [tis] the Spirit [pneuma]saith[lego] unto the churches; [ekklesia] He that overcometh[nikao] shall [adikeo] not [ou me] be hurt [adikeo] of [ek] the second [deuteros] death. [thanatos]KJV-Interlinear
11 'He who has
an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. He who overcomes shall not be hurt by the second death.' NASB
The same exhortation is stated here again, ‘he who has an ear,’ is an expression which emphasizes the
responsibility of the individual Christian to heed Gods Word in scripture.
God has issued you a mandate in this verse for the
second time, to heed, to listen, to hear, to learn, to understand, and to grow
up as a result. If you are not
interested in doctrine, then you are in violation of this mandate. If you do not pursue your daily study, then
you are in violation of this mandate.
So, you as a Christian, have an obligation to learn
truth.You should want to learn
truth. It should not be forced on
you.And if your interest is not in
truth, then you interest is in other than truth, namely lies. For that is all that is
left, when truth is rejected.
Let the Christian, hear what the ‘Spirit says to
the Churches.’This did not say what
Christ said to the Churches. This did
not say what Christ said to the Spirit. It said, what the Spirit says.
Your spiritual life functions only when you are in
fellowship.In order to get into
fellowship you must confess your sins to God the Father. You are to do this on a regular basis in
order to remain in fellowship as much as possible. The study of confession and fellowship is
more detailed in the 1 John study.
When in fellowship, the Holy Spirit has control
over your soul. When out of fellowship,
your sin nature has control over your soul.
When in fellowship, all communication from God,
through doctrine, is transmitted into your human spirit, and into your soul, by
means of the Holy Spirit. Therefore, all
doctrine is taught by the Holy Spirit. He is the primary communicator of truth.
Therefore, you are to listen to the Spirit, which
means to be in fellowship so that the ministry of the Holy Spirit will function
properly for your spiritual life. You do not have any unusual feelings or
sensations, for you cannot sense or detect anything of a spiritual nature from
this temporal world. Those who say they
have Spirit ecstatic moments are frauds.
The word for Churches is plural and therefore, is a
message to all Christians.
To overcome, ‘nikao,’
means to conquer, prevail, to accomplish a long hard fought victory. This is a sequential or chronological
accomplishment and not a momentary single event, but a series.
Those who endure hardship in life, those who suffer
inordinate persecutions in life, those who undergo the worst of conditions in
life over an extended period of time, and, maintain their spiritual faith in Christ,
are the ones who will overcome.
For those who will be pushed to the brink of human
endurance and suffering, there is now an emphasized promise,
that they are saved. They will not go to
the Lake of Fire. And even though they
will be sorely tested to the edge of their faith, and already know that they
are saved, there is implied that their tormentors (whomever or whatever that or
they might be) will try to play mental games with them.
Therefore, the emphasized
promise. The word for ‘not,’ ‘ou
me’ is the strongest possible negative in the Greek language. They are saved, despite any disgusting
humiliation they may be forced to experience or do, and they will ‘not,’
emphasis on ‘not,’ go to the Lake of Fire.
After salvation, there is no sin, or act, or throught, nor anything that can cancel out your being
saved.
Only God can send folks to the Lake of Fire, not
any person or angel or anyone else, or anything else for that matter, can do
that.
Jesus Christ is dictating to John the content of
this book.It is being communicated to
John through the Holy Spirit. The Holy
Spirit communicates all truth to each one of us throughout our lives. We cannot feel, or sense, or detect His
presence in that function.It just
happens.
The second death is the Lake of Fire, Rev 20:14;
21:8.
It is for every person to experience the first
death, which is the physical death you experience when you leave this
world. And after that first death you
are in a holding place until the resurrection or the second death, which ever
applies to you.
For those who have believed in Christ, you reside
in heaven until the resurrection. For all
unbelievers, they reside in Torments until they are called before Christ at the
Great White Throne, which will occur at the end of the millennium. From there, they will go to a second
separation from life, a second death, into the Lake of Fire. From there, there is no return, no other
options.
We are reading this book now during our
dispensation.There will be many
believers who will enter into the Tribulation as unbelievers, and then will believe,
and then will read this book.It is to
them that this promise will probably mean the very most, since they will
suffer, and there will be no way out of the suffering.
They may have only the hope that it will be brief,
and that this promise will be all that they have to cling to.
As we studied earlier, this book is going to become
very graphic.The sufferings and tortures,
and persecutions that are going to occur during the Tribulation are going to be
the worst in all of human history.
Hopeless and helpless will be the least of their
problems.
Or them, Christ will be
their only hope. For you, that should be
the same, even now.
For them, a daily study will be virtually
impossible, yet they will advance in their faith.
For you, a daily study is readily available and
opportunity is certainly easy to come by.
If they have every reason to fail in their spiritual
life, but succeed, where then is the excuse for folks in our current day?
This is the second letter, and the second warning.Who then will take it seriously?
