18 and the living One; and I was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of death and of Hades.    NASB

Jesus Christ is the one and only ‘living’ God, John 1:4; 14:6, Josh 3:10; 1 Sam 17:26; Ps 84:2; Hos 1:10; Matt 16:16; 26:63; Acts 14:15; Rom 9:26; 2 Cor 3:3; 6:16; 1 Thess 1:9; 1 Tim 3:15; 4:10; Heb 3:12; 9:14; 10:31; Rev 7:2.

And as God, Jesus Christ became man forming the unique person in all of existence.And as man lived the perfect life, as no other man can accomplish such a life.  Jesus Christ went to the Cross to pay the penalty of sin, through death, and died spiritually while physically alive on the Cross, and then died as a physical human being.

He was placed in the grave for three full days, seventy-two hours, and then arose alive once again, having conquered death and then ascended into heaven where God the Father gave Him His rightful place at the Father’s right hand, the place of ultimate authority and full glory.

The death of Christ accomplished once, for all time, here stated as forevermore, the question of sin and death.  There will no longer be any need for another sacrifice, no longer any need for another divine death.  The means of salvation has been accomplished and is permanent.It can never be removed or lost nor is there any need to replace it, or add to it.

1 Peter 3:18

18 For Christ also died for sins once for all, the just for the unjust, in order that He might bring us to God, having been put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit;    NASB

Rom 6:9

9 knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, is never to die again; death no longer is master over Him.    NASB

And having conquered death, Christ possesses in effect mastery over death.He holds the keys of death, having removed them from Satan.

Were it not for Satan, death would not exist.  It is Satan who brought death into the world, and Christ who has removed its power.

Heb 2:14

14 Since then the children share in flesh and blood, He Himself likewise also partook of the same, that through death He might render powerless him who had the power of death, that is, the devil;    NASB

Hades is equivalent with the Old Testament term Sheol.Both refer, in general, to the Land of the dead.’

A more exact definition of Hades and Sheol, is that they refer to a vast underground realm, called the ‘Underworld.’  In it are the residents of death.

The underworld has four compartments which separate various categories of the dead.The four compartments are, Tartarus, the Abyss, Torments, and Paradise.

Human unbelievers go to Torments when they die.That place remains active even today.

Human believers went to Paradise, in Old Testament times, but were transferred to Heaven immediately after the Cross.  That place is now empty and permanently vacant.

Tartarus holds the combination human/angel creatures of Genesis 6, and the Abyss holds the worst of the worst demons.

The abyss will release its occupants during the Tribulation, under the leadership of four demon generals, and they will spread out across the planet in a rampage of death and destruction that will never be matched in history.But we wouldn’t want to spoil that story just yet.

In any case, Christ holds the keys of death, and therefore controls all that are occupants within its realm.

Knowing that Christ possesses absolute control over death, and knowing that you are aligned with Christ through faith, then death no longer holds any threat against your life.  Even if you die a physical death as is common in human history, you will be brought back to life, even as Christ is alive.

John 11:25-26

25 Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me shall live even if he dies,

26 and everyone who lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this? "    NASB

John 14:19

19 "After a little while the world will behold Me no more; but you will behold Me; because I live, you shall live also.    NASB

2 Cor 5:8

8 we are of good courage, I say, and prefer rather to be absent from the body and to be at home [face to face] with the Lord.   NASB
