Lesson # Phil. 2:13 Study Material - Phil. 2:13 You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth. Phil. 2:13 13 For [gar] it is [esti] God [theos] which [ho] worketh [energeo] in [en] you [humin] both [kai] to will [thelo] and [kai] to do [energeo] of [huper] his good pleasure [eudokia]. KJV-Interlinear 13 for it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure. NASB Do not trifle with God by your neglect, by your procrastination, by your negative attitude toward Bible doctrine, lest He remove His support and withdraw from your life. That would be a bad thing for anyone. Because if God withdraws from a persons life, then they are left to the mercies of this world, and this world is a ruthless and merciless jungle. Without Gods support and protection, there is no one to help you. Being alone is truly the picture when God is not available to help. No one in this world will help you. Certainly from time to time you will get some help, but all of your life is before you and the help you do receive comes from Gods blessing. If however, God withdraws from you, then we have numerous examples of peoples throughout history who have been exposed to tremendous suffering. Some by world wars, some by local prejudice. Either way the results are terrible cruelty. Thus the fear of loss as noted in the previous verse is now combined with the notice given to you that it is God who works His will in you. Not the world. Not your spouse. Not your family. Not your friends. Not your job or business. Not the world. The world does not have a positive will to work in your behalf. Anyone left to this world is on his own. The world has no foresight, no plan, no destiny it can look to with a certainty of success. Only God has those powers and the authority to accomplish His own will. He performs all His works for our good, Isa.. 26:12, and all works of good that we do are from God, and not of ourselves. It is Gods grace, His policy of grace, to us, in which He grants His will to that which is good. Then He enables us to perform in our spiritual lives and in our fellowship status, that same good, as well as act in accordance with those principles of Doctrine which, by the way, He also teaches. Apart from God and doctrine there is absolutely no strength in us, zero. Therefore there is no merit that we can look to for ourselves. We can take no credit for anything that we accomplish, because it is not us but God who accomplishes that good. Without Gods grace, we cannot act. The very air we breath is due to Gods grace. Each beat of our heart is due to Gods grace. Therefore we cannot claim honor or attempt to exalt ourselves, nor even pretend these things. Gods good work in us is due to His policy of grace. Apart from that we would not even exist. Jesus Christ controls history. We have seen references to this statement many times throughout the scriptures. He knows the number of hairs on our head. He determines the time of our birth, and the time of our death. Knowing our every thought and action, God can place us in history along with everyone else who will think and do things that are compatible with His plan and purpose. Knowing that God works all things together for good, which means that everything that happens is compatible with Gods plan, and therefore, there is a solution to every problem. So the world is not going to blow up. No matter who gets elected, God will counter their poor policies. No matter what disease might be running rampant, a solution will be found as God provides someone who will discover a cure or vaccine. God works through each of us to accomplish His good purpose. In eternity past God knew what solutions would be needed, and provides someone who will happen along to make the discovery at the proper time. You may be that person who solves any number of problems either personally or even on a much larger scale. We are not to sit on our backsides and merely wait for the solutions to come to us. We still have our responsibilities in life. So doing nothing in life is not an option. We are to imitate Christ. Follow His attitude, which is from Doctrine in the soul, which we have learned by our daily study, and apply it to our daily lives. In this manner God will motivate you to do the things you do and do them better.
