Phil. 1:3-6

Lesson # Phil. 1:3-6
Study Material - Phil. 1:3-6

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Phil. 1:3-6

3 I thank [eucharisteo] my [mou] God [theos] upon [epi] every [pas] remembrance [mneia] of you [humon],
4 Always [pantote] in [en] every [pas] prayer [deesis] of mine [mou] for [huper] you [humon] all [pas] making [poieo] request [deesis] with [meta] joy [chara],
5 For [epi] your [humon] fellowship [koinonia] in [eis] the gospel [euaggelion] from [apo] the first [protos] day [hemera] until [achri] now [nun];
6 Being confident [peitho] of this [touto] very thing [autos], that [hoti] he which hath begun [enarchomai] a good [agathos] work [ergon] in [en] you [humin] will perform [epiteleo] it until [achri] the day [hemera] of Jesus [Iesous] Christ [Christos]: KJV-Interlinear

3 I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, 4 always offering prayer with joy in my every prayer for you all, 5 in view of your participation in the gospel from the first day until now. 6 For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus. NASB

Paul thanks God, 'theos', the supreme divinity, God the Father. All prayer, and offering thanks is merely a form of prayer. In fact all communication offered from ourselves to God is considered prayer. Whether it be for thankfulness, a petition or request for something, the seeking of help, or whatever. Anytime you talk to God it is a prayer. And prayer has certain requirements in order for it to be received and accepted by God. Review the prayer chart on the index page. But in summary all prayer (no exceptions) is directed to God the Father. If you pray to a saint, or Mary, or uncle Bill who has previously died, then you will get more response if you do 'you know what' into the wind. And none of this 'dear Jesus' stuff. Jesus does not hear prayer either. Jesus Christ executes the requests if granted, but the Father (God the Father) hears all prayer and decides on the response.

For unbelievers, prayer is of no use. There is no link to God in any way, therefore the prayers of unbelievers is null and void. God the Holy Spirit does intercede for unbelievers and communicates their faith in Christ, but that is the only potential link that unbelievers have with God until after they have believed in Christ.

Once a person has believed in Christ, then the question is fellowship with God. Believers are either in fellowship or out of fellowship with God. Upon your initial belief in Christ, all new believers are immediately in fellowship with God, however the committing of the first sin gets them out of fellowship. In order to get ourselves back into fellowship, we are required to confess our sins to God the Father. This is a simple prayer, which you do in the privacy of your own soul, wherein you simply name your sins to God the Father. ie. 'Father I told a lie, I felt sorry for my self'. Of course you list the sins so long as you remember them.

Fellowship places you in front of God, in the palace, on His Holy ground. Many phrases teach this principle of confession. Remove thy shoes. Wash thyself, and so forth. You name your sins to God the Father only. Remember that all prayer is directed to God the Father and no one else. No one else has the power or authority to place you back into fellowship with God. No priest, no friend, no teacher, no saint, not Mary, not even grandma can do this. It is a private prayer offered by you as often as is necessary in your life in order to keep yourself in the presence of God.

Simultaneously, with this fellowship status, the Holy is placed in control of your soul. Whereas, when you are out of fellowship, your sin nature is in control of your soul. When the Holy Spirit is in control then your human spirit and your Bible study process functions as it should and you are able to grow spiritually. When your sin nature is in control, this spiritual mechanism is shut down, and your spiritual growth process is derailed until you get yourself back on track. Remember too that this whole process is not an emotional one. You will have no 'good feeling', no 'rosy glows'. It is all beyond your senses.

Paul thanks God the Father, in his remembrance of believers, Christians, those who have believed in Christ. Were it not for Gods grace, which is a function of His holiness and His love, there would be no human history or even a future for any of us. Angels celebrate every time a person believes in Christ. Angels celebrate every time a believer cracks through that spiritual maturity barrier. These events are victories of God over Satan, over sin, and over death. Each new believer brings yet one more victory and yet one more bit of assurance to us that God is faithful, that God is capable of doing all that He says He will do. It gives us security and a feeling of well being within our soul, knowing that if, and this is the key word, 'if', we continue to study our Bible faithfully and consistently, then we will advance in our spiritual lives and be protected by God from all possible attacks and problems this world can throw at us. The world has lots of arrows and they are always in the air. But we have a shield a mighty fortress which the arrows of the world cannot penetrate. Doctrine is our security and safety. So Paul expresses his thanks to God for all the believers in Philippi as well as you and I. We too should be thankful for every Christian, for every person that has believed in Christ, and especially so for every Christian who has advanced in their spiritual life to maturity. Maturity is the ultimate in stability and blessing in ones life.

Paul offers his prayer frequently, always remembering that believers are the salt preservative of this earth. Whether they are spiritual giants or not, makes no difference. So long as there are believers in the world there will be Gods faithfulness in protection and preservation of them.

From our initial participation in Gods plan from the beginning of our spiritual life, which began at the point of our belief in Christ, until the current moment. Once you believe in Christ, you are a member of His family, and once you are born into a family you cannot get out of it - impossible. So you cannot ever lose your salvation, no matter what you do or think in life. You can't even have a tantrum and say ' I hate you' and go storming out the door. You are still in His family. So your attitude after salvation is not the issue nor the determining factor of your membership in Gods family. Your attitude does affect your spiritual advances of course.

Paul is confident because God promises, that is you advance in your spiritual life, that is participate in a study program, a consistent study, from the time you are saved, or from the time you finally decide to get with the program an for the remainder of your life, then you will succeed in advancing to spiritual maturity. That is a guarantee. You may fail in everything else in life, but in doctrine, if you study your Bible daily, then you will learn what is expected of you, you will learn what to expect of this world, and you will learn what to expect from God. You will succeed. Your only barrier to your success is your own unwillingness to study.

He, God the Father, began the process with the salvation program. He Jesus Christ, began the process with the Cross. He God the Holy Spirit began the process with the baptism of the Holy Spirit. All this was simultaneous at the initial point of your salvation. Consistent study will advance you to perfection - spiritual maturity. And that is your objective after salvation.

This process will occur for every believer until the day of Christ. Most people think of this as the event of the second advent - the day of Christ. But it also refers to your cracking the maturity barrier, when Christ ( who is the Word of God) is complete in you. And note too, that it is God who does the perfection, not you or me. We have nothing to do with it, except for our decision to study daily and then apply what we learn to our lives. No credit comes to us. We can neither earn nor deserve anything from God. God does all the work, God gets all the credit. Your target in life is your spiritual maturity, your private 'Day of Christ', then when the historical 'Day of Christ' arrives, the rapture, you will be prepared for the Judgment Seat of Christ, full of doctrine (gold, silver, and precious stones) and thus a recipient of the highest honors and decorations from God. Again, you will be ready for the 'Day of Christ', the second advent, in your resurrection body riding your white war horse in your position of honor with all your decorations fixed to your chest. If there is a true ecstasy, a true rush, in this universe, that will be it.
