Matthew 24:42-44
Lesson # Matt. 24:42-44
Study Material - Matt. 24:42-44
You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.
Matt. 24:42-44
42 Watch [gregoreuo] therefore [oun] : for [hoti] ye know [eido] not [ou] what [poios] hour [hora] your [humon] Lord [kurios] doth come [erchomai] .
43 But [de] know [ginosko] this [ekeinos] , that [hoti] if [ei] the goodman of the house [oikodespotes] had known [eido] in what [poios] watch [phulake] the thief [kleptes] would come [erchomai] , he would [an] have watched [gregoreuo] , and [kai] would [an] not [ou] have suffered [eao] his [autos] house [oikia] to be broken up [diorusso] .
44 Therefore [dia] [touto] be [ginomai] ye [humeis] also [kai] ready [hetoimos] : for [hoti] in such [hos] an hour [hora] as ye think [dokeo] not [ou] the Son [huios] of man [anthropos] cometh [erchomai] . KJV-Interlinear
Matt. 24:42-44
42 'Therefore be on the alert, for you do not know which day your Lord is coming. 43 'But be sure of this, that if the head of the house had known at what time of the night the thief was coming, he would have been on the alert and would not have allowed his house to be broken into. 44 'For this reason you be ready too; for the Son of Man is coming at an hour when you do not think He will. NASB
Be alert means, be spiritually ready. Be saved by believing in Christ. Be prepared by studying the Word of God. Be confident and not deceived by means of spiritual growth and knowledge of the facts surrounding your circumstances of life. For those in the Tribulation, the circumstances have just been given. For the rest of us, this means we need to advance in our spiritual lives because just as no one knows the moment of the Rapture, and as no one knows the day or hour of the Second coming, so too, none of us know the moment or the circumstances of our death.
Even by a lucky guess, no one will guess the timing of the Rapture or the Second Advent. If a man knew that a thief was coming on a certain night, then he would make preparations and be ready and alert for his arrival, so that he could be confronted.
Jesus is coming like a thief. Just as a thief takes all from those who are unsuspecting, so Jesus will take all that the ungodly have. They will be cast unto their deaths and all they had on earth will be taken as spoils to the victor - Jesus Christ.
Unprepared, all those who stand against God, will be surprised at His appearance. Unprepared, all those believers who do not learn the signs of His coming, will be deceived and will be fooled into an uncompromising situation resulting in their persecution and death.
Only those who remain diligent and alert will enter alive into the earthly Kingdom of God. Jesus Christ is coming. We know the thief is on His way. The timing only, is unknown.
Only those who remain diligent in their advancement to spiritual maturity will qualify for those 'beyond imagination' blessings of eternity. We know that eternity is coming for all of us. Only the timing is unknown to us.
Those who remain ignorant will have various thoughts of insecurity. In Malachi, this is addressed. There were those who thought that the righteous would get mixed up with the unrighteous, Mal. 3:16, 'Then those who feared the LORD spoke to one another, and the LORD gave attention and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before Him for those who fear the LORD and who esteem His name.' NASB
But God keeps meticulous records. He knows all those who belong to Him. And He knows exactly where they are at any given moment in time. Even if a nuclear bomb exploded on your nose, God would not lose you.
Trying to guess when You will meet God is a waste of time. We have but three responsibilities in life - to God, to self, to others. All three of these will function sooner or later if you become obedient to Gods Word. This means studying the Bible consistently, learning, believing and applying what you learn to your daily life.
To do otherwise is to be indifferent, to ignore, to compromise, and/or to reject God and His policy in your life. God gave us all three assets with which to invest during our life - time, doctrine, and volition. If we are responsible then we will invest in them wisely (advance to spiritual maturity). If we are foolish, then we will ignore them and waste our life away on other unimportant things (excluding God in our life).
God is coming for each one of us, either to terminate our life, or to take us in the Rapture if we happen to be the Rapture generation. It should make no difference to us which of these two apply. Our responsibility is to grow up spiritually, therefore to be prepared spiritually. And God gives us all ample time and opportunity to prepare. If we fail, it is our fault alone.
In Noah's day, people were unprepared and the waters took them. At the exodus, the Egyptians were unprepared and they lost their first born. In Abraham's day, only Lot and his family were delivered from Sodom. In our present day, what are you ready for, or are you ready? Are you alert (spiritually prepared)? What have you done, or what are you doing, with your life with respect to your spiritual advancement to maturity? Check that mirror again!
Now is the time to post a prayer.
End Of Lesson
Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
