Matthew 22:22

Lesson # Matt. 22:22
Study Material - Matt. 22:22

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Matt. 22:22

22 When [kai] they had heard [akouo] these words, they marvelled [thaumazo] , and [kai] left [aphiemi] him [autos] , and went their way [aperchomai] . KJV-Interlinear

Matt. 22:22

22 And hearing this, they marveled, and leaving Him, they went away. NAS

They marveled and left, but more than that, 'leaving Him, they left.' There is more here than meets the eye. They left the one and only Son of God. They were not interested in who He was, or what He stood for. They were not interested in what Jesus could do for them, nor how He could affect their lives.

Here we are, small little humans on this little planet earth in this huge universe. A universe so huge that even with our advanced technology we do not know its extent. And yet those men of Jesus day, had the privilege of standing and even speaking directly with God, the Son of God, the heir to the entire universe. The most powerful man (God/man), ever. The one who has the ability and resources to sustain everything and everyone in the universe. Wouldn't it be wise and advantageous to have such a person as a very close friend?

For 3 ½ years now, Jesus came out of nowhere (as far as the Pharisees were concerned). He built up a reputation like no other in history. He cured every known disease. He healed every ailment and injury known to mankind. He restored limbs that were missing. He raised the dead back to life. He changed water into wine. He caused the winds of storms to stop instantly. He walked on the water.

This information, and His reputation went ahead of Him so that everyone knew who Jesus was, or at least they knew of the stories, and many tens of thousands of people even had first hand experience with Him in that they were cured, or restored, or healed directly by Him.

Wouldn't you think that people would sit up and take notice? And, wonder just what all of this historical activity was all about? The very people who had an unparalleled history like no other people in human history. The very people who held custody of the scriptures of God (the one and only God). The very people who had the privilege of learning and the opportunity to teach Gods Word to others, were standing before Him (God) and they just turned away.

What would you do if God came knocking at your door? Wouldn't you have some questions? Wouldn't you want to know things about Him, about life, about your own personal future perhaps? Or, would you be so cocky as to take up a debate with God, the creator of the universe, the creator of life, the one who sustains us all?

That is exactly what these Pharisees did. They saw the overwhelming magnitude of the miracles, miracles that cannot even be copied in our current day. And not just one or two miracles but many thousands of them. Yet they did not wonder at the possibility that they were blessed by being alive during the time of Christ's first advent. Instead they took exception that their personal positions and livelihood was being threatened. As though there was nothing further that they could receive from this Jesus, that they themselves hadn't already considered for themselves.

Now we look into that mirror once again. And, we ask ourselves just what are we doing in our Bible study? What do we expect to accomplish? What can we do to change our lives in order to come into compliance with Gods will for our personal lives? Or .....

Do we play that same old game, the one that these Pharisees played? Do we pretend that we can define our own lifestyle and that since it doesn't harm anyone (according to our own belief), then it must be ok?

Have you ever wanted to be a part of something really big, something bigger than life? And yet most people will be a part of things by reading love stories, or adventure books, or through movies. They exercise their imaginations and place themselves in the role of the hero or damsel in distress. They live the adventure or love story, and everything works our happily ever after. Then they go back home or to work and reality comes back to visit them.

But isn't there a real adventure unfolding right before our eyes? Our own life? Sure we are not jumping out of airplanes, or playing secret agent, or liberating the captives, or finding the treasure, but then ...

We do have Bible doctrine available to us everyday of our life. We are in fact soldiers - Christian soldiers. Our duty? To learn Gods policy, and to grow up spiritually. Our duty is to obey His command, to be responsible in life, and in effect to build up a fortress, a palace, a castle, a temple of doctrine within our soul and to furnish it with every treasure of infinite value.

We live our life on earth in our 'basic' training, and when we graduate to heaven in our next life, then we will enjoy the victory of our life in Gods Word, not to mention the tremendous prosperity that God has waiting for us in eternity. In addition we have the privilege of living the life God has planned for us while here on earth.

So, do we recognize the significance of our life, of our living in our current day, of what awaits us after our death? You do know that you will not live on earth forever in your physical body. You will grow up and get old and sooner or later you will die. So, again the question. Do we realize the significance of life and get with a Bible study program, or do we turn away like the Pharisees did, despite overwhelming proof that we do have spiritual options in life, and walk away into the outer darkness where there is gnashing of teeth, etc., etc.?

prayer wall
Now is the time to post a prayer.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
