Matthew 22:15
Lesson # Matt. 22:15
Study Material - Matt. 22:15
You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.
Matt. 22:15
15 Then [tote] went [poreuomai] the Pharisees [Pharisaios] , and took [lambano] counsel [sumboulion] how [hopos] they might entangle [pagideuo] him [autos] in [en] his talk [logos] . KJV-Interlinear
Matt. 22:15
15 Then the Pharisees went and counseled together how they might trap Him in what He said. NAS
Remember, 'few are chosen.' Why? Because the 'many' will not change their ways. Here Jesus has warned the scribes and everyone within hearing distance (that includes you and me too), that there is a place in the outer darkness, a place which is totally separated from God, a place where there will be crying and gnashing of teeth. This crying is not just a little whimper, but a full blown, out of control crying.
In this place there will be 'many.' Not just ones and twos of people, but many. A number that probably will go into the billions, if you count all the people from all the generations in history. And why? Because they don't want to change. They are controlled by their sin nature, and they give in, to its power over them.
Rejecting God will not save or preserve your way of life. Hating God will not make you better than He. Ignoring God will not give you some unusual freedom or self rule over your life. Actually it is quite the opposite. Leaving God out of your life will drive you toward evil and a very deep trap.
The scribes have heard the words of warning. You would think that people would be more concerned with wanting to know just what they could do to avoid this bad destiny of an outer darkness and gnashing of teeth. You would think that people would want to know more about this invitation, that they would want to know more about this feast, that they would want to know more about this King who wants so much for those in His kingdom. The kings that people had come to know or had heard about, were very evil and selfish and fearful kings. The idea of a king caring for the people was a pretty foreign idea at best.
But we have the scribes. We have those who have had the best of education's. And not only the best of education's, but the best of training in the scriptures, the very words from which Jesus was teaching. And they not only did not care for what He taught. They not only did not concern themselves with any thought of escaping this horrible destiny of the Lake of Fire, but they were more concerned with entrapping Jesus so that they could destroy Him.
Jesus warned of their self destruction, and they concentrated on figuring out a way to destroy the only person who could save them from eternal destruction.
The sin nature is extremely powerful. We do not read these lessons in order to evaluate others. We do not read these lessons in order to apply these templates of behavior onto others. We read and study the Word of God in order to protect ourselves from slipping into some deep pit of disgust, from which we might not be able to crawl out of.
The Word of God is a mirror. We look into it daily in order to cleanse ourselves, in order to brush the mess out of our life, in order to put ourselves into some semblance of order within our lives.
Without the standard of Gods Word, we would have nothing with which to compare or gauge our life. So we have examples as with these scribes and Pharisee's. They are arrogant. That is the first step toward destruction. They are negative as a result of their arrogance. That is the second step which takes a person in the wrong direction. Third, since only Gods Word provides guidance and security, then a negative person runs into frustration after frustration. They become upset that nothing is working out for them. They become distressed. They become angry, and then violent. But with some fear from the crowd which still has a popular attitude toward Jesus, so they turn out their plots from the shadows, from the darkness in which they will one day spend all of eternity.
No concern for the masses of whom they were responsible for educating in the art of the soul and of the spiritual life, but only concern for their own well being, of their own security of position and power and public approbation.
This is a dangerous place to live - in the neighborhood of negative volition toward God. It blinds you and it controls you. You are its slave, but you think you have a greater freedom. The negative person is a short sighted fool of fools.
Now is the time to post a prayer.
End Of Lesson
Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
