You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.
Matt. 15:15-20
15 Then [de] answered [apokrinomai] Peter [Petros] and said [epo] unto him [autos] , Declare [phrazo] unto us [hemin] this [taute] parable [parabole] .
16 And [de] Jesus [Iesous] said [epo] , Are [este] ye [humeis] also [kai] yet [akmen] without understanding [asunetos] ?
17 Do [noeo] not [oupo] ye [noeo] yet [oupo] understand [noeo] , that [hoti] whatsoever [pas] entereth in [eisporeuomai] at [eis] the mouth [stoma] goeth [choreo] into [eis] the belly [koilia] , and [kai] is cast out [ekballo] into [eis] the draught [aphedron] ?
18 But [de] those things which [ho] proceed [ekporeuomai] out of [ek] the mouth [stoma] come forth [exerchomai] from [ek] the heart [kardia] ; and they [kakeinos] defile [koinoo] the man [anthropos] .
19 For [gar] out of [ek] the heart [kardia] proceed [exerchomai] evil [poneros] thoughts [dialogismos] , murders [phonos] , adulteries [moicheia] , fornications [porneia] , thefts [klope] , false witness [pseudomarturia] , blasphemies [blasphemia] :
20 These [tauta] are [esti] the things which [ho] defile [koinoo] a man [anthropos] : but [de] to eat [phago] with unwashen [aniptos] hands [cheir] defileth [koinoo] not [ou] a man [anthropos] . KJV-Interlinear
Matt. 15:15-20
15 And Peter answered and said to Him, 'Explain the parable to us.' 16 And He said, 'Are you still lacking in understanding also? 17 'Do you not understand that everything that goes into the mouth passes into the stomach, and is eliminated? 18 'But the things that proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and those defile the man. 19 'For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, slanders. 20 'These are the things which defile the man; but to eat with unwashed hands does not defile the man.' NAS
Learn to separate the spiritual from the physical. The internal from the external. The reality from the shadow.
There is a physical realm in which we live. This realm has limits. These limits should be obvious. We are born and we die. No human has ever come into existence without being born. No human has ever lived forever - all meet death sooner or later.
Knowing this we should consider what will happen to us when we die. When we were born we were helpless - totally. When we die, we again are helpless as we enter into the next phase of our existence - the eternal state.
Food is something that we consider everyday f our life, but food is a physical thing and it has impact on the physical only. Food has no say or even any part in the spiritual side of our life.
Hygiene is a physical thing. It affects the physical only and has no part in the spiritual side of our life. The physical is constrained and limited to the physical. Only the spiritual will impact the spiritual. And the spiritual will overflow into the physical and make it better. The spiritual can have an impact on and affect the physical side of our life. The physical can never have any impact on the spiritual.
That said, what does it all mean? The real person is in the soul. The real you is what you think, not what you do (that can be faked), not what you wear. Not what you drive, not where you live, not who you know, not your abilities, not your talents, education, assets, titles, etc., etc., etc.
Tradition using peer attitude (fashions), tradition using ancestral beliefs, tradition using cultural practices, tradition based on prejudices - all affect the physical alone. They are not of the spiritual realm and therefore have nothing to do with ones spiritual life. Tradition (that which excludes God) can never secure, improve or advance one in the spiritual life.
Ritual practices may be beneficial in life (washing ones hands), but they are only good for the physical side of life. They will never get you into heaven. None of them.
People need to learn that there is the shadow side of life, and the reality side. Shadows are only evidence of a light being interrupted by a reality. Nothing more. Shadows point to a reality and the light beyond which reveals that reality. Traditions, rituals, and such are all shadows or empty things. Man who worships at the feet of shadows worships nothing. One needs to turn to the light in life and then see the reality side of life.
What man does on the external means nothing except in the physical world. What man does with his soul (the internal) affects his entire existence even into eternity.
Food goes into the mouth and thereafter dissipates into the body and then is expelled as waste from the body in various forms. That is all. No foods are better than others. No foods are more sacred than any others. No foods will ever have an impact on your spiritual life - ever. Food are only subject to your personal preference. You either like them or you don't.
Likewise the word that proceed out of the mouth come from an origin - the thoughts of your soul. The thoughts of your soul come from an origin - that which you learn in life either through academics or through experience. That which you learn has an origin - that which you pay attention to, that which you desire, that which interests you, that which by chance simply crosses past your eyes and ears. In every case you decide the importance of everything you learn. You either accept it or you reject it. If you accept good things (Bible doctrine), then you soul will be oriented correctly to life. If you accept bad things (reject Bible doctrine), then your will have a distorted sense of reality. Bad content in the soul produces sins and evils galore, but often times you will not distinguish between the two especially when it comes to socially accepted norms and standards.
Murder and theft may be obvious wrongs, but prejudice may elude you and may even be deemed an acceptable attitude.
What you think is what you are. Nothing in the physical world can defile you. Only what you think, therefore that which you choose to bring into your soul can defile you (render you useless).
A daily program of Bible study serves to keep you sane, as it were, undefiled, prevents you from becoming useless in life. God takes care of everything in life - your needs, and so forth, but you have to make good decisions in order to advance yourself in your spiritual life. God will not impose anything on you.
Now is the time to post a prayer.
End Of Lesson
Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
