You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.
Dragnet Matt. 13:50 50 And [kai] shall cast [ballo] them [autos] into [eis] the furnace [kaminos] of fire [pur] : there [ekei] shall be [esomai] wailing [klauthmos] and [kai] gnashing [brugmos] of teeth [odous] . KJV-Interlinear 50 and will cast them into the furnace of fire; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. NASB
A Puritan writer and preacher John Bunyan wrote in 1677, and he describes hell with these words:
'In hell thou shalt have none but a company of damned souls with an innumerable company of devils to keep company with thee. While thou art in this world, the very thought of the devil's appearing to thee makes thy flesh to tremble and thine hair ready to stand upright on thy head. But oh, what wilt thou do when not only the supposition of the devil's appearing but the real society of all the devils of hell will be with thee -- howling, roaring and screeching in such a hideous manner that thou wilt be even at thy wit's end and ready to run stark mad again for anguish and torment. If after ten thousand years, an end should come, there would be comfort. But here is thy misery: here thou must be forever. When thou seest what an innumerable company of howling devils thou art amongst, thou shalt think this again -- this is my portion forever. When thou hast been in hell so many thousand years as there are stars in the firmament or drops in the sea or sands on the seashore, yet thou hast to lie there forever. Oh, this one word -- ever -- how will it torment thy soul.'
End of quote.
The lake of fire is described in various ways within the Bible. The lake of fire was originally intended for Satan and the fallen angels (those angels who chose to follow Satan), and is now also reserved for all of mankind that chooses to follow in Satan's footsteps.
Simply by rejecting God and Gods Plan (Jesus Christ) a person chooses Satan's philosophy by default. There are but two opinions in this universe - Gods Word is the truth and represents the facts regarding life and death and eternity. Any other opinion which excludes God is the other opinion and it is false and a lie. Any opinion which excludes truth is by definition a lie.
Hell is not a party place as it is so often portrayed in the movies or in books on the subject. Hell is a miserable place in which there will be no pleasure whatsoever. Not even perverted pleasure which accompanies various sins.
Hell is a total darkness. In this darkness there is no light. A total blackout in which the occupant can see nothing, Matt. 22:13. The person or angel will never see light again. Not ever.
Matt. 22:13
13 'Then the king said to the servants, 'Bind him hand and foot, and cast him into the outer darkness; in that place there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.' NASB
Hell is an eternal fire, Mark 9:43. This is a special fire. A fire which gives off no light, but does inflict total pain as fire does when it burns continually.
Mark 9:43-44
43 'And if your hand causes you to stumble, cut it off; it is better for you to enter life crippled, than having your two hands, to go into hell, into the unquenchable fire, 44 [where their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched.] NASB
Just as believers will receive a special resurrection body which will allow us to experience Heaven, so too, unbelievers will be reunited with a replacement body of some type which will cause them to experience eternal pain and suffering. They will suffer in both body and soul. Matt. 10:28, Jn. 5:29, Acts 24:15, Rev. 20:11-15.
Their body will never decay in hell, nor be consumed, but will go on and on forever within that total sphere of misery and suffering. It will be a total separation from God as they rejected God in life so God will turn away from them in eternity. Unbelievers get in effect what they wanted - no relationship with God, and God gives them their request. Where God does not exist, chaos reigns.
Perhaps the worst description within the Bible is found in Mk. 9:44, 'where the worm never dies.' Now think about that one for a moment. On earth when a person dies and is placed in a grave, the worms consume the body and then when the flesh is all eaten up the worms eventually die or crawl off looking for another dead thing to eat. But in hell the worms never die, because the flesh never diminishes.
Here is the picture. Total darkness. A person can't see a thing. The worms of eternity live on and on, and as in the grave the worms devour and ravage throughout the body. Such will be the scene and experience of unbelievers - forever. The unbeliever will be trapped with all those maggots crawling all over him/her constantly and forever. No wonder there will be uncontrollable tears, and gnashing of teeth. Total fear. Total terror. Total aloneness.
Hell is eternal. Matt. 25:46.
Why would anyone on this planet refuse to say to God, or even refuse to think within the thoughts of their own mind, 'Father, I believe in Jesus Christ.'
How stubborn can a person be to refuse those six little words, and risk losing heaven and pursue a life in hell, which as we have described above is not going to be a picnic. Well except maybe for the worms. The misery and gnashing of teeth and weeping will be beyond description. No cigars. No booze. No virgins (that will be the big shock for those Middle Easterners). Only total and eternal terror.
Thus far we have studied a dozen parables. Actually we are now on the twelfth parable. These are not mere children's stories, but truths of life, which if we disregard will have severe repercussions on our individual lives.
Learn them, and understand their meanings. There is a truth in this life, and though we might be caught up in a national election, though we might be caught up in our education, our work, our social life, all these things will come to nothing if we disregard God in our daily lives. God will work history out to its conclusion. We have but to be responsible to God first, and He, through doctrine in our soul, will show us the things we need to do from day to day.
Now is the time to post a prayer.
End Of Lesson
Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
