Lesson # Matt. 12:24-25 Study Material - Matt. 12:24-25 You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth. Matt. 12:24-25 24 But [de] when the Pharisees [Pharisaios] heard [akouo] it, they said [epo] , This [houtos] fellow doth [ekballo] not [ou] cast out [ekballo] devils [daimonion] , but [ei me] by [en] Beelzebub [Beelzeboul] the prince [archon] of the devils [daimonion] . 25 And [de] Jesus [Iesous] knew [eido] their [autos] thoughts [enthumesis] , and said [epo] unto them [autos] , Every [pas] kingdom [basileia] divided [merizo] against [kata] itself [heautou] is brought to desolation [eremoo] ; and [kai] every [pas] city [polis] or [e] house [oikia] divided [merizo] against [kata] itself [heautou] shall [histemi] not [ou] stand [histemi] : KJV-Interlinear Matt. 12:24-26 24 But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, 'This man casts out demons only by Beelzebul the ruler of the demons.' 25 And knowing their thoughts He said to them, 'Any kingdom divided against itself is laid waste; and any city or house divided against itself shall not stand. NAS The masses begin wondering whether Jesus ancestry went back to David, and the Pharisees panic. Their first thoughts are not to wonder themselves, because of the many prophecies being fulfilled, or to begin wondering themselves because of the many irrefutable miracles that were being performed, miracles that never in the history of the human race (not even in todays modern medical science) could or would ever be matched. Instead they think up quick challenges to Jesus, and accuse Him of being the lowest life form on the face of the earth. Beelzebul is, you will recall, the degrading version of Beelzebub. Slight difference in wording, but it more or less means a servant of the heap of dung attended by flies. They called Jesus a name in other words. We have our contemporary four letter words which would amount to the same thing. Then again people in the crowd are fickle and fairly shallow. Here is a man performing miracles that no one else could do. He raised the dead. Actually brought them back to life. He cured all manner of disease. He cured all manner of handicaps. And these Pharisees offer mere words of criticism and people would listen to just words??? People are by default evil. We were made from the dust of the earth, and many have no more sense than dust provides. Why would people witness tremendous truths and then listen to mere accusations, accusations with no basis? Yet people do this all the time. They listen to gossip, and even promote it further and perhaps enhance it, just to see the harm that it can produce on the innocent. Jesus is indeed the innocent here, and people who are seeing these miracles are just impressed by the circus show. They are shallow because they lack the depth of Gods Wisdom (no Bible doctrine in their soul). Therefore they hear and listen to things that are not true and they believe them. So Jesus will pose a question. Would someone who supports that dung heap go about destroying it? Thus losing His only power base or domain? No, is the answer. Anyone or anything that is divided within its own purpose, will destroy itself. This is true for the person that cannot make up their mind in life. If your mind is divided between the two opinions of life (Gods and all others), then you will lack the resources to come out a winner. You will lose. If you persist in the latter opinion (excluding Gods) then your opinion will be a hodge podge of worldly opinion - something that changes from generation to generation, from day to day even. You will lose in life. The only way one can come out a winner in life, is to take on Gods opinion. That is, study, learn, utilize and grow up spiritually. This will save yourself, your marriage (or your relationship), your work, your business, your career, your city, your country, and so forth. When the majority of a country goes against Gods Word, then it is in for a big set of problems, just as each individual is in for a lot of hurt when he/she goes against God. Each person needs to see the truth, to be able to identify it, and then move toward it. Rejection is not a good decision. Indifference, apathy is not a good decision. Criticism or manufacturing arguments against the truth will gain you nothing. You only harm yourself, never your intended victim.
