Study Material - Matt. 10:21-22
You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.
Matt. 10:21-22

KJV-Interlinear
Matt. 10:21-22
21 'And brother will deliver up brother to death, and a father his child; and children will rise up against parents, and cause them to be put to death. 22 'And you will be hated by all on account of My name, but it is the one who has endured to the end who will be saved. NAS
Believers will be hated by family and society. We have already seen that government and religion hates the believer because of Christ.
Blood is thicker than water, but the spiritual life is thicker than blood relations. The principle divider is the sin nature, which resides within us all.
Ruled by the sin nature then, Matt. 10:35-36, which is just ahead in our study, in which Christ came to pit relations against relations. Love is not the purpose for Christ's first advent. The Cross is the priority. In that Cross all sin was judged, and victory was attained over sin and death. Their sting now gone, each person has an opportunity to live eternally in heaven by merely believing in Christ.
This belief does not terminate the function of the sin nature. Remember that sin was judged on the Cross, it was not forgiven, and that is a very important principle which governs our relationship with God. Fellowship is now the issue. That is to say, fellowship is the concept of a perfect state or sphere in which God has allowed us to confess our sins (after salvation) and receive forgiveness, thus placing us inside of that fellowship sphere. By the way you cannot see the sphere, nor experience it in any way. It simply exists because God says it does. Inside that sphere of fellowship, the Holy Spirit controls your soul. Outside of the sphere of fellowship the sin nature controls your soul. The one that controls your soul is the one which you follow. Inside, you follow Bible doctrine. Outside you follow all manner of human philosophy, human viewpoint, satanic philosophy, and so forth.
Inside the fellowship sphere you live a stable life with the resources of Bible doctrine supporting your soul. Outside, you lack resources to stabilize your soul and will follow various sinful patterns - envy, arrogance, hate, rebellion, gossip, inordinate competition, that list is endless. These are all dividers and they all drive division between you and others. Family is not exempt from contributing strife to your life. Any person who lives and breathes, has a sin nature. Therefore any person with a sin nature is subject to the flaws and false truths and decay in the life that comes with the sin nature.
If all family members do not participate in a Bible study, then differences will arise sooner or later. The Bible and the sin nature promote incompatible philosophies. Conflict is inevitable.
Likewise society will hate you, because by in large, society is governed by the jungle and led by all the individual sin natures of each person in society. The family can be trouble of a personal nature, and society can bring even greater persecutions against the believer. Note that believers are not isolated as the sole recipients of persecution, all unbelievers are subject to persecutions as well. The jungle does not care for ones spiritual status. Unbelievers simply do not have anywhere to turn to for help. Believers have God to turn to for help, and their sphere of fellowship in which to seek refuge. The principle of sanctuary comes from the fellowship concept. A person can run to a place of sanctuary for safety and protection from those who seek them harm. Believers in fellowship reside within Gods sanctuary (that sphere of fellowship) and therein find refuge in His hands.
Now, he who endures will be saved. Is this salvation? No. This is deliverance from suffering through ones faithfulness and perseverance in doctrine.
The end, 'telos', refers to a goal, to a definite point, to a destination, to a conclusion. He who survives through faith to the end of the suffering. He will be saved, 'sozo', made whole, made safe, preserved, to do well. Anyone who perseveres through suffering will advance in the spiritual growth. Suffering for blessing is a true concept. We advance in our spiritual life by applying Bible doctrine to our situation. Whether we stand before a den of lions, or idle gossip from neighbors, our faith, our application of Bible doctrine to the situation, will enhance and accelerate our spiritual growth.
By the way the word for endure is 'hupomeno', which means to stay behind, remain, to undergo, to have fortitude, to persevere.
Suffering is an opportunity for advancement in the spiritual life. Do not look at suffering as a handicap to your life, or as something that is going to hold you back from whatever goals you have made for yourself. We all have goals in life, but they are generally limited to this life, and therefore short sighted. God has goals for each of us too, and His goals are far greater than anything that we could even imagine for ourselves.
Now is the time to post a prayer.
End Of Lesson
Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
