Lesson # Matt. 9:32-34 Study Material - Matt. 9:32-34 You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth. Matt. 9:32-34 32 And as they were going out, behold, a dumb man, demon-possessed, was brought to Him. 33 And after the demon was cast out, the dumb man spoke; and the multitudes marveled, saying, 'Nothing like this was ever seen in Israel.' 34 But the Pharisees were saying, 'He casts out the demons by the ruler of the demons.' The miracles were foretold by Isaiah many centuries before, Isa. 35:5+. God stated that His name would never be given to another. That His name was His and His alone, Isa. 42:8. By no other name does God function. None other than God can present themselves in His name. The man who could not speak, was possessed by a demon. This possession was the cause of his disability. The demon disabled the speaking ability of the man. Does this mean that everyone who cannot speak is demon possessed? No, of course not. This just happens to be the problem for this particular man. The greater number of occurrences of disease, handicaps and so forth have nothing to do with demons. They are merely biological defects, abnormalities, or whatever you want to call them, that we all have to deal with during our lives. This man was demon possessed. Jesus saw this and ordered the demon out of the man. His speech resumed immediately. By the way. Ever noticed that when these people are healed they are healed immediately and completely, with no follow up therapy required. When Christ blesses it is complete. Nothing is left out. Where in our medical science can man perform the same immediate and thorough results? Demons wish no good thing on mankind. They do not even attempt to help man in anyway. Satan's policy is purely his own selfish interest. But that is not hard to understand. After all, he is a condemned creature and mankind is the resolution and proof of his guilt and the justification for so harsh a sentence that has been ordered against him and all fallen angels. Yet another miracle. The demon is ordered out and the man is speaking again. The crowd is awed, but nothing more. That is to say, the crowd in its majority. Certainly there were some who were seeing the truth and the unique significance of their day. Who should have understood this? The Pharisees of course. They are the keepers of the 'holy' scriptures. But of course we now see they continue in their jealousy. Rather than falling down in worship, they attach insult with accusation. Lack of Bible doctrine leaves a vacuum in the soul. That vacuum draws in worldly opinion and standards. Along with that is the rulership of the sin nature of ones soul, and the sin nature promotes sin in all its forms. Arrogance is the granddaddy of all sin. From it a very complex web of thinking disorders emerges. Just as these illnesses of the body, just as these handicaps, and diseases we have been studying, are disorders of human function, so the pattern of thinking of the soul controlled by the sin nature is a disorder of the soul. There is only one cure. There is only one source of a cure for a handicapped soul - Bible doctrine. Jesus has been doing nothing but good for all who have come to Him. The demons have done nothing but harm and abuse against all with whom they come into contact. The Pharisees suffer from the greatest of disorders - their own legalistic self righteousness. They are physically healthy. They are intelligent. But they lack discernment. It is blocked from their view, and blocked by their own volition. They do themselves harm. Their handicap not only prevents them from having a great life in this life, but it severely handicaps their eternal state. They have no viable argument against Christ, so they resort to cheap shots against His character and reputation. Accusations they cannot prove, and no one else (the masses) can disprove. So they feel safe inside this ambiguous assault against which no one can argue with them - except of course Christ, and that argument will come in chapter 12. What do these Pharisees gain by assaulting the only person in history who has come along to help any and all who come to Him? Will mankind ever come to see and understand the meaning of the scriptures? No. There are millions, billions of peoples who pursue false religions. There are even many millions or hundreds of millions of Christians who are not advancing in their spiritual life due to their negative attitude. The only remedy to a sick soul, and consequently a sick life, is Bible doctrine, a daily dosage of study.
