Matthew 8:30-34
Lesson # Matt. 8:30-34
Study Material - Matt. 8:30-34
You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.
Matt. 8:30-34
30 Now there was at a distance from them a herd of many swine feeding. 31 And the demons began to entreat Him, saying, 'If You are going to cast us out, send us into the herd of swine.' 32 And He said to them, 'Begone!' And they came out, and went into the swine, and behold, the whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the sea and perished in the waters. 33 And the herdsmen ran away, and went to the city, and reported everything, including the incident of the demoniacs. 34 And behold, the whole city came out to meet Jesus; and when they saw Him, they entreated Him to depart from their region.
One of the activities of demons is the destruction of anything and everything, and for the sheer pleasure of it. Demons can indwell people, and they can indwell animals.
People seem to tolerate the indwelling and provide a convenient 'home' for these demons. The animals apparently do not provide a good home, in that when the demons enter into them, the animals immediately go into a panic of sorts and rush to their own death.
We can probably conclude that the dinosaur's had a similar experience. We know that dinosaurs existed prior to Adam and Eve. We know that these angels existed prior to the creation of the universe, and that they are a destructive lot. We also know that all life prior to man, died out on planet earth. We also know that God does not do things without some purpose, and that things just do not disappear for no reason. Therefore it is reasonable to conclude that the dinosaur age and its demise was probably due to the actions of Satan and his cohorts. Man has a lot of theories concerning the dino's - asteroids crashing into the planet and such, and that might even be part of the destruction of life back then, but I'll bet that Satan had something to do with that as well.
Anyway, enough of the speculation. We know that demons can indwell animals and that is evident from this passage.
The pigs were some distance away. We assume they were on a distant hillside and visible to the crowd. The demons requested permission to enter into the pigs. No such permission was granted.
Christ did command them to leave the men, which they did. The power of Gods Word is far greater than the power of any demon in whatever shape their power is measured.
Word of the event made it to the city and these city folks came out and saw what they perceived that Christ had done. The pigs were destroyed. Their property was destroyed. By the way, pigs were considered an unclean animal and it was not to be dealt with, yet these people were in open violation of the Mosaic Law concerning these unclean pigs. They had rejected this portion of Moses' law, and they rejected Christ. They asked Him to leave. No matter that the two man were healed from their demon possession.
Notice that in chapter nine, verse one, Jesus left. They wanted to have nothing to do with Christ. Christ came to them. Christ did not reject them. They rejected Him. Christ did no harm to them, but did leave at least two of them in a better condition than they were before His arrival.
Prosperity only comes from Christ. Destruction only comes as a result from the rejection of Christ.
Is the loss of a herd of pigs more important than the loss of ones eternal life? Is the loss of anything you have in life, is the loss of your social life, the loss of your job, business, home, health, anything you have or could have, or did have, or do have, more important than your Bible study? Is it better to keep your things of life, your status in life, than to improve your spiritual status? Is it better to control your environment than to advance in your spiritual life? Would you pursue unclean things more so than you would pursue clean things? Would you pursue double standards in your life so you could have your cake and eat it too?
Jesus did not prevent the demons from going into the pigs. Jesus does not prevent the free will choices of creatures. Perhaps these two men were positive toward God and therefore Jesus intervened in their behalf, but the rest of the town rejected Him so He left. God does not force His truth on anyone. If you want to pursue your own destruction, then you are free to do so. But know too that God will not allow evil to run rampant without some form of check on it to curtail it with respect to its impact on those who would be positive to Him.
The spiritual life does not prevent you from having a great life, but it does restrict you from leading a life contrary to Gods Will and simultaneously trying to please Him. You cannot do both. They are mutually exclusive functions.
Now is the time to post a prayer.
End Of Lesson
Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
