Matthew 8:10-13
Lesson # Matt. 8:10-13
Study Material - Matt. 8:10-13
You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.
Matt. 8:10-13
10 Now when Jesus heard this, He marveled, and said to those who were following, 'Truly I say to you, I have not found such great faith with anyone in Israel. 11 'And I say to you, that many shall come from east and west, and recline at the table with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven; 12 but the sons of the kingdom shall be cast out into the outer darkness; in that place there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. ' 13 And Jesus said to the centurion, 'Go your way; let it be done to you as you have believed.' And the servant was healed that very hour.
Here Jesus marvels at belief - marvels, 'thauazo', to look in awe, wonder, admire, recognition in admiration, recognition in amazement. He will again marvel at the unbelief of people, Mark 6.
He makes a reference to he people of Judea. They have been the custodians of the scriptures since Moses wrote the first books. Now they still look on as a multitude, virtually doing nothing but just that, 'looking on', 'clueless', not seeming to be able to make the connection between their existence and the overall view of life. What is it all about anyway?
Jesus honors this gentile, a man who has had none of the advantages of the Jewish peoples. He honors the gentiles of the past ages, who too, have had none of the advantages of the Jewish peoples over the generations.
Since Abraham, the Jewish peoples (actually they were first called Hebrews not Jews - the reference to Jew came as a result of calling the occupants of the region of Judea, Jews, by the Romans), but anyway, they have had the privilege of receiving the spoken word from God, they have had the privilege of writing that word down and keeping the scrolls and so forth, preserving them throughout the centuries. They have had the privilege of seeing first hand many miracles throughout the ages, miracles specifically directed to them and for their benefit.
Yet many of the Jewish peoples have not even believed in the very God that the scriptures were written about. Scriptures that they read daily, weekly, annually, and know inside and out. Scriptures that gave them the very advantage of being further along than gentiles who did not have access to these written words.
And in the long run, many more gentiles will be in Paradise with Abraham and the ancestors that the Jews look to when they boast of being descendants of Abraham, than will be those that are his direct descendants. This is the same with the Arab world even today. They boast of being descendants of Abraham too, and they are believing in an implication of salvation which is a lie. They are not saved.
Gentiles who believe in the Son of God, the Savior, Jesus Christ, are saved. Anyone who believes is saved. Salvation is not a matter of genetic descendancy, but one of spiritual faith. It makes no matter whether your parents discussed your future in the back seat of a chevy, or within the silks of a mansion.
What does matter is that you have believed in Christ, and that your future will be in heaven rather than in hell. The two are briefly described by Jesus. But before we get to that description we need to understand that salvation is an exclusive club once you are inside that club. The membership is open to all who believe in Christ. Its membership is not exclusive to the Jews, to the Pharisees, to certain wealthy and mighty. Its membership is not a part of a game with words by saying that God has many names, ie. Allah, or many manifestations, ie Buddhism, Hinduism, etc.
There is only one club, one salvation, one membership requirement - believe in Christ, period. Once saved, and by the way, the membership is non-cancelable and is an eternal membership, but once saved then the membership is proprietary in nature. Its benefits are for members only, and the benefits are immense.
Now for the contrasts between heaven and hell. Heaven is with tremendous fellowship, blessing, satisfaction, absent of problems, total prosperity, pretty much having anything one could imagine and more, far more.
Hell on the other hand is described here briefly, outer darkness, weeping and gnashing of teeth. What do these mean? Outer, 'exoteros', is apart from all that is, total isolation, total aloneness. Darkness is without light There will be the lake of fire, an environment absent of organization and in total uncontrollable chaos, but without light. Total disorientation, no light, absolute darkness, 'skotos', total separation, no sound, no senses whatsoever except for pain, excruciating pain. The gnashing of teeth is total fear, fright, horror, no help, no hope. Who in their right mind would want such a destiny? Especially when heaven is just a thought away - believe in Christ. Very simple, very easy, and anyone who has a breath in their body can have it. It is free for the 'thinking' of it.
Such is what Jesus marveled at. Those who had all the advantages rejected the very treasure that they had. Those who have not had the advantages (you and me), those who never saw Jesus, never saw the miracles, but only have access to what has been written, have just as much opportunity as any Jewish person who has ever lived, and generally take advantage of it.
By the way, Judaism is not Christianity. Judaism rejects Christ and therefore is evil. Please no e-mail's suggesting that these religions (Judaism, Islam, guru max's best sayings, etc.) are some form of honorable faith. They are not.
What is on the line is ones eternal home. There is no room for nonsense faiths which do nothing for your life but in fact threaten your destiny to eternal horror.
Jesus continues to demonstrate what faith in Him accomplishes. He healed the servant immediately. He is God. He is omnipotent. His presence is not necessary to heal your life, but then healing your problems in life is not the answer to your real problems. Bible doctrine is the real answer you and I and everyone needs to have eternal permanent healing.
Now is the time to post a prayer.
End Of Lesson
Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
