Matthew 5:13
Lesson # Matt. 5:13
Study Material - Matt. 5:13
You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.
Matt. 5:13
13 'You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt has become tasteless, how will it be made salty again? It is good for nothing anymore, except to be thrown out and trampled under foot by men.
Without salt, life on earth cannot be sustained. Animal life as well as human life must have salt in order to be sustainable. This is salt in the literal sense with respect to biological life here on earth.
But in the spiritual sense, salt is a teaching aid to illustrate the importance of salt in the spiritual life. Bible doctrine is salt. The salt that sustains spiritual life.
In Num. 18:19, salt is used to illustrate the everlasting covenant. The gospel of salvation is that everlasting covenant. Lev. 2:13, requires that all sacrifices include salt in them. Eze. 43:24, requires all sacrifices to include salt.
Salt is a preservative. Without it all meat would spoil. Thus any person who rejects God will, in effect, spoil and rot away. Their destiny is destruction and total worthlessness. They are discarded from history, and they will be discarded into the lake of fire.
Believers who are saved and are thus salted with the covenant of eternal life in them, remain to keep their salt alive and with taste. This is their objective and their responsibility, to continue in their daily Bible study throughout their life. For to become disinterested in Bible doctrine, is like salt losing its savor. Salt without taste is worthless again. And believers who ignore God, just as unbelievers who reject Jesus Christ become worthless in their lives.
Unbelievers of course have no salt in them so they rot throughout. Believers have some salt in them which preserves them into heaven, where God will cleanse them at the Judgment Seat of Christ, of all that rot (wood, hay, and stubble in their souls), but their food, their production of soul will be empty, tasteless. They will have nothing to show for their lives here on earth.
Believers who are responsible in life, who study their Bibles daily and advance in doctrine to spiritual maturity, is like sprinkling fine salt throughout the meat. The salt tenderizes it, it preserves it, it adds flavor to it. Salt makes the production worth more and extends its life to even higher levels. Whereas unsalted meat deteriorates.
The soul is in need of salt. The gospel initially, and a steady sprinkling of salt daily for the rest of ones life. It does not take much salt to preserve and to enhance. Thus we do not have to learn the entire content of the Bible in one weekend. I don't think that is possible anyway. But our responsibility is to learn a little doctrine each day. And with each succeeding day we build on what we learned in prior days. The days will pass, then weeks and years. Soon each one of us will have learned an extensive amount of Bible doctrine, and we will discover that we have a greater degree of maturity in ourselves than we realized. We will observe others and wonder why they can't remain calm in the face of their problems, and then that little light comes on and we realize that it is the doctrine resident in our soul that gives us strength in the face of everything in life.
Being negative is likened to losing the flavor of the salt. Where else will we obtain flavor? Where else will we gain preservation?
The salt of the gospel is the answer to the preservation of life into eternity. The salt of Bible doctrine is the preservation of the soul into spiritual maturity. Apart from the gospel, apart from Bible doctrine, there is no other source for eternal life or a spiritual life.
Nothing in life, not philosophy of any type, not technology of any type, not human viewpoint of any type, nothing has the power of our spiritual salt - Gods Word. There is no where else that man can turn to, and find the answers that life requires. Accept Gods seasoning and life will be given to you to the maximum. Reject it and you will get trampled into the dust in the jungle.
Now is the time to post a prayer.
End Of Lesson
Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
