Lesson # Matt. 5:9 Study Material - Matt. 5:9 You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth. Matt. 5:9 9 'Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. Peacemakers is the Greek word 'eirenopoios' which is generally translated peaceful, peaceable, or peacemaker, but it is out of the word 'poieo' which carries more clarification as to what this is saying. 'Poieo', means to abide, to band together, to continue, to cause, to fulfill, to provide, to perform, to arise out of. This then is the culmination of the spiritual life - spiritual maturity. A person who has been faithful in the little things (Bible study daily) will be honored by God in the bigger things - advancement to maturity. This is the fulfillment of the objective of the Christian life. You have arrived. You have brought together your spiritual life with your total essence, in effect. This was all caused by your dedication to a consistent plan of daily Bible study, by your consistency of remaining in fellowship (that is by getting back into fellowship when you slipped out, and on a reasonably prompt basis). You banded together your life in this world with your spiritual life. You continued without giving up, without getting bored, without getting disenchanted or discouraged, without feeling sorry for yourself. You hung in there! Sons of God? These are adult sons, first born sons. The first born is heir to the inheritance of the parent, the receiver of the double portion. This is not a reference to whether or not you are presently male or female. Gender in this life is not an issue, but it is a teaching aid. As an adult mature son, with demonstrated responsibility (advancement to maturity and with all that goes along with it), then you have the right of access to the Fathers ring. What is that? In the ancient world the master of the house usually had a ring with which he affixed his seal, or signature to various things. What would we have today? Hummm! Dads credit card, with our name on it - unlimited! Wow! Shopping here we come. Anyway, so you get the idea. This is a very high rank within the family structure. It is a very privileged status. One that is not given to all of the children, but only to the adult, first born, mature and responsible son. The big difference between our family structures here on earth and Gods family structure, is that we have one position available for this privilege, but God has many positions available. Of course here on earth, parents with discernment would probably split up the inheritance among the children in a more or less fair manner, but even then if there was a considerable business or family wealth involved, then this might be directed to the more responsible person in order that it might be run properly and with wisdom. God on the other hand, gives to those who are prepared (Bible doctrine in the soul), to those who have capacity (utilization of that doctrine that is resident in the soul). God does not give you a badge. You are not made into a law officer and given one of those million bullet shooters, like they have in the movies, you know those guns that never run out of bullets. You are not put in places of decision where you become the judge or intermediary between two warring parties, to settle their disputes. Although you as a mature believer, will have the wisdom to think in times of pressure and should have the common sense to settle disputes in diplomatic ways, not in violent ways. Although there are times in life when violence becomes necessary, such as in a war situation. There are references to 'children of God' throughout the scriptures. There are references to 'family of God' as well. And they have within their respective contexts various meanings. But to become an adult son, an adult first born son, a mature adult first born son is the quintessence of honor and achievement. And it is not anything that we could ever earn or even deserve. But is made possible completely by God. It is God who funneled that doctrine through your human spirit and into your soul. It is doctrine that becomes the basis for that construction complex inside your soul. It is the application of doctrine that completes the circulation in the soul to build muscle in the soul and therefore strength. God is the source and Bible doctrine is the means. Spiritual growth is the result. You and I do nothing but make a decision to accept what God gives us. In life, our biggest enemy is our self. We can say no to all of this. We can ignore Bible study. We can be disinterested in it. But what else do we have that could be better? Nothing.
