Matthew 5:5

Lesson # Matt. 5:5
Study Material - Matt. 5:5

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Matt. 5:5

5 'Blessed are the gentle, for they shall inherit the earth.

Gentle, 'praus', meek, humble, mild, unassuming, unpresumptuous. This is a direct contrast to the person who is presuming, arrogant, self indulgent, self centered.

Spirituality is not an external covering that you wear just when you need it for an occasion, such as a special piece of clothing, but spirituality is a function of soul. Spirituality has three components. The first is the function of being in fellowship. By the way, all of these characteristics apply to believers in Christ only. These do not apply to unbelievers, those people who have rejected Jesus Christ as the son of God and their personal savior.

Only a person who has believed in Christ has then received a human spirit, that third component of your essence (body, soul, and now spirit), and as such they now have the components that will allow them to have a relationship with God. The relationship is potential (you will either confess or you won't). The potential is based on the persons following the commands set out by God, in the confession portion of ones life - that is - simply naming ones sins (privately) and directly to God the Father. There are no physical or sensual results of this confession and subsequent fellowship. You do not have seizures, no feelings of euphoria, nothing. You simply name the sins and move on. God does all the work and recognizes your confession which automatically places you into fellowship - 1 Jn. 1:9, He is faithful and just to restore you...

So fellowship is the first aspect of spirituality. Learning Bible doctrine is the second aspect. This gives you the information to grow up in your spiritual life. The information comes from your Bible study. The Holy Spirit funnels this Biblical information through your human spirit and into your soul and this information becomes the foundation or basis for the construction of that complex in your soul that we have often refer to as your temple, or your palace in your soul. All of this learning has to be done while in fellowship. If you are out of fellowship, that is, you have unconfessed sin in your life, then the spiritual aspect of your learning will not work properly. You are off line with God so to speak. You may learn Bible doctrine academically but that does not help your spiritual growth. Satan knows Bible doctrine, but it does not help him one bit. He has been out of fellowship with God for a very long time, but he still has the capacity to learn, just as you and I do. The key to learning spiritual information is being in fellowship while learning. You might review the charts on the believer and unbeliever souls on the Index page. See link above.

The third aspect to the spiritual life is the application of what you have learned, to your daily life. This is where the humble, or the meek, or the mild concept of ones life comes into play.

Humility is a function of the application of what is in your soul. It is not an external thing. Not a slumping of the shoulders. Not wearing rags or cheap looking clothes so as to make ones self look humble like a poor man. What is seen has nothing to do with true humility.

I guess there could be a fourth concept to humility and that is the absence of sin. But that should be obvious since you cannot have sin in your life when you are in fellowship.

The humble person does not have ill feelings toward others, does not gossip, does not hate, does not worry, does not feel guilty, does not judge, does not malign, is not implacable, does not look down on others as though they were lessor creatures, and so forth. The humble person obviously has some degree of spiritual growth toward maturity. The more mature you are, the more understanding you have in life, therefore the more humble you will be.

The humble person is not a 'shucks' type of person looking down at their feet and smiling shyly. The true humility of a spiritually mature person manifests itself in confidence. You are confident because you practice your work skills over and over again. You do them better than anyone because you practice, practice. You have self assurance in life because you have Bible doctrine in your soul and therefore you are oriented to life, oriented to doctrine, oriented to grace - all of which come from God.

The humble will inherit the world not the arrogant. Not those who have no spiritual growth. Certainly not those who have rejected Christ altogether. Their inheritance is the lake of fire. Negative believers (those who have been saved but have ignored their spiritual life throughout their life), will certainly inherit blessings in eternity, but those blessings will be limited. Review the first three chapters of Revelation.

Just as salvation and all of its blessings are infinitely beyond those condemnations of no salvation, so also, spiritual maturity blessings far, far exceed those blessings of a person who lacks spiritual growth. When we get into the study of the book of Hebrews we will see this more clearly.

And so it is in this chapter thus far. Salvation gains you heaven. Spiritual growth gains you a relaxed mental attitude. Now spiritual maturity gains you an inheritance beyond that which you could ever imagine.

Now is the time to post a prayer.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
