Mark 2:1-5

Lesson # Mark 2:1-5
Study Material - Mark 2:1-5

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Mark 2:1-5

1 And when He had come back to Capernaum several days afterward, it was heard that He was at home. 2 And many were gathered together, so that there was no longer room, even near the door; and He was speaking the word to them. 3 And they came, bringing to Him a paralytic, carried by four men. 4 And being unable to get to Him because of the crowd, they removed the roof above Him; and when they had dug an opening, they let down the pallet on which the paralytic was lying. 5 And Jesus seeing their faith said to the paralytic, 'My son, your sins are forgiven.'

Jesus had returned to Capernaum. He had previously been rejected in Nazareth. Note that He was run out as it were, in Nazareth, but here, in Capernaum, He was sought. He had not been in town very long when word spread that He was there. Many gathered.

As we have already seen, many came out of curiosity, many came for healing of ailments, and many came as critics. Some certainly came to hear and learn from what He taught. This latter point is where we all should be in our desire to learn Gods Word.

We know that we cannot ride the fence between two opinions. We cannot lead a life outside of Gods will, as well as a life inside His will, simultaneously. Me must choose.

The Word of God is with us constantly. There is no place on earth where you cannot find a Bible with a little effort. We need not wait for Christ to come to town. We need not wait for the right pastor to come to our church. We need not wait for the right church, or socially compatible people to come along. We need not wait for times to be more convenient before we begin our Bible study. None of these things will ever happen. What we need to do is to go seek Gods Word and take some proactive action toward acquiring Gods Wisdom for our life. No one else is going to do it for us. And certainly we need not wait on our friends to go to Bible study with us, before we decide to go our selves.

Each of our lives is our own, and we need to decide for ourselves, and do for ourselves spiritually. Again, no one else is going to make us grow up spiritually, or even grow up in our behalf.

People came because they heard that He had returned. Why did they not follow Him when He went away originally? The spiritual life is a full time undertaking, not a part time one.

The cripple was lying on his stretcher, or bed. He was carried by for other persons. The paralytic was incapable of traveling by himself. He was incapable of doing many things for himself. This is a picture of the crippled soul under the influence of the sin nature (without Bible doctrinal influence) - crippled or paralyzed.

A soul that lacks Bible doctrine is in effect handicapped. A soul that lacks Bible doctrine is hampered, ankle chained, and lacking choices in life. Grace is the four that were carrying the paralytic. What one cannot do for ones self, then God provides the resources to give us what we need.

The person was positive, therefore God provided a means for Him to come to doctrine. God also provided the resources that will be innovative enough to find a way for this person to get to doctrine. The crowd was huge, so these folks hauled the man up and onto the roof, carried him over to the courtyard and then lowered him down, right in front of Christ.

The man was helpless and his situation was hopeless. No one could heal him, but God did better than expected, though what Jesus did was not expected, at least initially. Most would have expected Jesus to touch the man and heal him. That would have been the prayer petition The desire is to not only be healed but to be free from the handicap.

Jesus gave him freedom, spiritual freedom. Our miseries in this life are many and varied. Their cure would certainly make things more convenient for us, but that convenience is only temporary. Fix the body, but it will continue to age and eventually decay anyway. As for the soul? Fix it and it will carry you for all of eternity. Which vessel is more important, the soul or the body?

Where the right kind of faith exists, healing always follows. The right kind of healing!

Now is the time to post a prayer.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
