Luke 1:46-55

Lesson # Luke 1:46-55
Study Material - Luke 1:46-55

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Luke 1:46-55

46 And Mary said: 'My soul exalts the Lord, 47 And my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior. 48 'For He has had regard for the humble state of His bondslave; For behold, from this time on all generations will count me blessed. 49 'For the Mighty One has done great things for me; And holy is His name. 50 And His mercy is upon generation after generation toward those who fear Him. 51 'He has done mighty deeds with His arm; He has scattered those who were proud in the thoughts of their heart. 52 'He has brought down rulers from their thrones, And has exalted those who were humble. 53 'He has filled the hungry with good things; And sent away the rich empty-handed. 54 He has given help to Israel His servant, In remembrance of His mercy, 55 As He spoke to our fathers, To Abraham and his offspring forever.'

Compare the songs of Miriam after the Israelites departed Egypt, or the song of Hannah after the birth of Samuel. These all are great believers and in their respective songs they express extensive knowledge of God and doctrine and they express their inner happiness that cannot be compared with any other worldly source.

Mary states the her soul exalts the Lord. Compare with 1 Sam. 1:1 in Hannah's rejoicing. Only a person who has some spiritual growth in their soul, has some knowledge of God, His doctrine, His prophecies in their soul, can have a point of reference for fellowship with God. Only such a person can express their happiness and thankfulness to God because they have an understanding of God and His plan for humanity. She exalts not only God, but specifically refers to the Savior, whose name she now knows will be Jesus.

Her spirit rejoices in God her savior. She knows that she above all women has been chosen to give birth to the humanity of God. She does not magnify herself above Him, because she is about to become His mother, but rather bows down to Him in her humility of soul because she recognizes that the child she will carry, the child she will give birth to, is both God and man. He will save the world, and be anointed King of an eternal dynasty. She understands that she has a spirit. Something that unbelievers do not have. The spirit is unique only to believers in the savior, Jesus Christ.

God not only has deep regard for her humble state, as a slave in this devils world, but for all humanity which is enslaved to sin and death. She is also a very poor person. Probably not dirt poor, but just not middle class. She comes from a lower class financially, a worker class that generally it is perceived as not having much of a future of promise. Social security and retirements did not exist then, only family existed for support in ones latter years. But here that world is slave to sin and were it not for the work of Christ on the Cross we would all have been doomed to eternal separation from God and the lake of fire.

All generations will look to Mary as the Blessed mother, and that is true. She above all women in history has had more attention given to her than anyone else. If there is anyone else who has had more attention in the last 2000 years, then I don't know who it might be. Mary was the chosen gateway into the human race by God, and with that she has been given recognition. But man generally goes to far. Many have gone so far as to deify her, and that is wrong. Many pray to Mary. But even she does not pray to herself. She prays to God the Father as we all should. She refers to her own humble estate, because she is human like us all, and nothing more. We don't pray to Daniel because he sat with lions. We don't pray to Moses because he walked through the sea, nor Paul because he authored more books of the Bible than anyone else.

God had a plan for Mary's life, just as he has a plan for your life and mine. Now I'm not going to pray to you and you are not going to pray to me. That would be foolish. Just like Eve figuring on knowledge by eating from the tree, which was a ridiculous expectation, so people can't expect a response from Mary in prayer. Mary is not God. She is however a person that was used by God in His plan for her life and in human history. But then so are you if you advance to spiritual maturity.

49 'For the Mighty One has done great things for me; And holy is His name.

God is the mighty and all powerful one of this universe. His name is holy. Holiness consists of His righteousness and His justice. The two combined make up His holiness. Righteousness can have nothing to do with sin, and justice demands that sin be punished. Mary understands the necessity for the containment of sin and the functions of fellowship with God apart from sin.

50 And His mercy is upon generation after generation toward those who fear Him.

From the first promise to Adam of a savior, throughout all generations God has kept His promise and His plan for mankind in tact. He has given man, a lower creature than angels, a higher status in Christ. He has given man His doctrine, His protection, His blessing, His love. He has given each of us the opportunity for a fulfilling life even in this devils world. We only have to pursue that opportunity to attain it. His security applies only to those who seek Him. Those who ignore Him, or reject Him, do not benefit from His blessings that He provides to mature believers.

51 'He has done mighty deeds with His arm; He has scattered those who were proud in the thoughts of their heart.

Psa. 98:1, salvation took the strength of God's arm. Whereas creation of the universe was mere finger work, Psa 8:3. The mightiest deed of God was salvation. And by that work he has scattered those who would reject His work on the Cross. He has scattered unbelievers into the imaginations of their hearts, brought the proud low. He has canceled the plans of man, and made a mockery of the wisdom of mankind. The mighty think they are secure in their status, but God takes them and dashes them on the rocks of reality. Those who think in their hearts anything except God's doctrine are exposed to doom and total frustration.

Jesus Christ controls history. He appoints rulers and removes them. He elevates those who advance in His word. He fills up the spiritually hungry with the good things of His Word. Thus satisfying their souls and providing them spiritual growth.

Those who pursue the world for their wealth, come up empty handed at the point of their death, sometimes before. He has given help to Israel the nation, Israel the spiritually enlightened. He has been consistent in His plan for Israel and mankind in the accomplishment of the first advent of the savior, Jesus Christ, as well as the remainder of history. He spoke to Abraham, his ancestors, his offspring. He is the Lord of Israel, the God of Israel, the God of our fathers, the mighty one who created this universe, and restored the world. He is the King of kings, the Lord of lords, the first and the last.

Mary had it all together in her soul. She had studied well in her young life, and was a mature believer. Mary was well oriented to life, including her poor situation. She did not go after rich men in order to secure her livelihood. She chose doctrine and allowed God to provide her future. She found Joseph, who will turn out to be the perfect match for her. And she found God, who will provide for all her needs. Though poor in this life, she was the richest woman in history, bar none.

Personally I think that the pregnancy occurred at this time, in the home of Elizabeth. This is of course only my opinion.

Now is the time to post a prayer.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
