Jude 1:6

6 And [te] the angels [aggelos] which kept [tereo] not [me] their [heautou] first estate [arche], but [alla] left [apoleipo] their own [idios] habitation [oiketerion], he hath reserved [tereo] in everlasting [aidios] chains [desmon] under [hupo] darkness [zophos] unto [eis] the judgment [krisis] of the great [megas] day [hemera]. KJV-Interlinear

6 And angels who did not keep their own domain, but abandoned their proper abode, He has kept in eternal bonds under darkness for the judgment of the great day. NASB

Jude's second example of the certainty of judgment is taken from the story of angelic interference in human reproduction in Gen.. 6.

Gen. 6:1-4
1 Now it came about, when men began to multiply on the face of the land, and daughters were born to them, 2 that the sons of God saw that the daughters of men were beautiful; and they took wives for themselves, whomever they chose. 3 Then the LORD said, 'My Spirit shall not strive with man forever, because he also is flesh; nevertheless his days shall be one hundred and twenty years.' 4 The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men, and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown. NASB

2 Peter 2:4-5
4 For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but cast them into hell and committed them to pits of darkness, reserved for judgment; 5 and did not spare the ancient world, but preserved Noah, NASB

There are no other passages, except those in Peter and Jude, which speak of fallen angels who are presently in bonds. Even Josephus makes a reference to Gen. 6:1-4 as the fallen angels in chains in total darkness awaiting their even greater judgment, the final judgment.

The bonds referred to here are chains or bonds from which there is no escape. The darkness is an extremely dense and dark darkness into which there is no light, no sight, no orientation whatsoever.

Now, the angels left their first estate, and had sex with humans. They were never designed to function in that manner, just as humanity was never designed nor intended to interact with animals in that manner.

But as man from time to time in history becomes so degenerate that he tries various lewd and disgusting activities, so too the angels back in Noah's time had sex with human females and had children by them. These children were half man, half angel folks of sorts, and are the source of the Greek mythologies by the way.

When the flood came and killed off everyone on the earth, except for Noah and his family, then as a part of that judgment of humanity, those bad angels were chained up and imprisoned for the remainder of human history so that they could not again interfere with the natural course of human history.

Again, Jude treats this story as a part of the foundation of common knowledge that everyone is or should be aware of. If you have never heard of this then you have obviously never read Genesis.

I would imagine that this was not the first time that these angels rebelled against God and their intended nature. Remember that in history, our 'current' history goes back to the time of Adam and Eve, but the universe did not begin with them.

Prior to Adam and Eve, the earth was rebuilt from its state of disaster 'null and void.' It had been destroyed by some fashion and required rebuilding before Adam could be created.

Prior to the earth's destruction there was life in the form of the dinosaurs and such. We have ample evidence of that era of time. And of course prior to the dinosaurs, there was the creation of the universe and prior to that was the creation of the angels. All of this in reverse order of course.

Once the universe was created, then the rebellion of Satan occurred and a third of the angels remained defiantly with Satan and against God. They were judged for the Lake of Fire. Which they have not yet been thrown into in history. That will occur at the end of the Millennium.

We can assume that these angels of Genesis 6 were among the third that were judged, and that they probably interacted with animals in eons past and prior to our current human history. One can only speculate if they interacted with Cro-Magnon and Neanderthal long ago as well. Again from your science knowledge, those are two creatures which are genetically different from each other and genetically different from current humanity. This is what all of the missing link theories come out of.

Anyway, if their tendency was to interact with Noah's generation then they probably were just as degenerate in the distant past as well. Speculation of course, but the pattern of disobedience is there.

If that is so, then it would seem reasonable that God would lock them up for the remainder of history because they just could not be trusted due to their extreme disobedience. Other angels (demon types) were not locked up and they were even obedient to Jesus when He cast them out of people during His First Advent ministry. So these bad angels were probably really bad dudes.

Again, Gods judgment is certain and irreversible. These angels had all of distant past eternity to get their act together, but they were defiant to the max. They were locked up and will never see the light of day, ever.

The Exodus generation in yesterday's study was made up of folks who saw tremendous miracles (those angels must also have seen many miraculous demonstrations from God), yet they continued to complain and be defiant toward God. They had forty years to get their act together. They failed in that too, and they did not get to cross over into the Promised Land with the rest of the nation of Israel.

You can live your life in defiance and your reward will be great loss. If you are an unbeliever, then your loss will be maximized forever in the Lake of Fire. If you are a believer, but just defiant in your Bible study and therefore in your spiritual life, then your loss will be in the loss of blessings in eternity. That too will be a huge loss.

There is no such thing as God changing His mind at the last minute of history and telling everyone 'April Fools.' Those who are disobedient will see His judgment. That is one of those guarantees of life and of history.
