John 14:18-21

Lesson # John 14:18-21
Study Material - John 14:18-21

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

John 14:18-21

18 I will [aphiemi] not [ou] leave [aphiemi] you [humas] comfortless [orphanos] : I will come [erchomai] to [pros] you [humas] .
19 Yet [eti] a little while [mikron] , and [kai] the world [kosmos] seeth [theoreo] me [me] no more [ouketi] ; but [de] ye [humeis] see [theoreo] me [me] : because [hoti] I [ego] live [zao] , ye [humeis] shall live [zao] also [kai] .
20 At [en] that [ekeinos] day [hemera] ye [humeis] shall know [ginosko] that [hoti] I [ego] am in [en] my [mou] Father [pater] , and [kai] ye [humeis] in [en] me [emoi] , and I [kago] in [en] you [humin] .
21 He that hath [echo] my [mou] commandments [entole] , and [kai] keepeth [tereo] them [autos] , he [ekeinos] it is [esti] that loveth [agapao] me [me] : and [de] he that loveth [agapao] me [me] shall be loved [agapao] of [hupo] my [mou] Father [pater] , and [kai] I [ego] will love [agapao] him [autos] , and [kai] will manifest [emphanizo] myself [emautou] to him [autos] . KJV-Interlinear

John 14:18-21

18 'I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. 19 'After a little while the world will behold Me no more; but you will behold Me; because I live, you shall live also. 20 'In that day you shall know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you. 21 'He who has My commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves Me; and he who loves Me shall be loved by My Father, and I will love him, and will disclose Myself to him.' NASB

A number of things are going to happen in the next fifty days. These are things that will shake up the apostles and others who are with them simply because they are not prepared for them. But as each event occurs the various disciples will grow and learn and advance in their spiritual lives. Sooner or later a growing believer is no longer shocked or surprised by events in their life, but begins to relax and take everything in stride.

In a few hours Christ will be arrested, tried six times and then executed. That will be shock enough for the apostles who hold on to their stubborn ignorance for a short time. Then Christ will arise and appear not to the whole world, Acts 10:41, but to the select few (believers) who are interested in Him.

The world has in effect rejected Him, 'Away with Him. Crucify Him.' And so He reveals himself in the post resurrection only to those who are interested in Him. And to those who are not interested, He allows them to go their chosen way with the full knowledge that they have consciously rejected the only Son of God, and the only path to heaven.

In forty days, He will ascend into heaven to His formal coronation. A tremendous procession of all Old Testament believers will accompany Him into their new Paradise in heaven, leaving the old paradise in the underworld behind. This is the biggest victory parade ever in history.

Ten days later, at he Feast of Pentecost, the Holy Spirit will descend upon the apostles and all believers thereafter, and give them a tremendous sense of power and security. So we are not orphaned in this world. God has not forgotten us. We have our many blessings which we receive when we first believed in Christ, the indwelling of the Holy Spirit being one of them. But we also, in our present day, have the completed scriptures from which we draw comfort and security.

Christ will not again reveal himself to the entire world until the second advent, but will make yet one more appearance to all believers only, at the Rapture, when He descends into the clouds to take us all up to Him, at some time in the future.

Furthermore as stated here, We are indwelled by all three members of the Godhead. The Father is in Christ, and Christ in the Father. Christ is in every believer and every believer in Christ. And the Holy Spirit is promised to every believer as well in the preceding verses, which wraps up all three members of the Trinity. This, by the way, is a privilege granted to believers in or current dispensation only and has never occurred in any prior dispensation. We are Royal family.

Various people in the Old Testament times had 'endued' power of the Holy Spirit which gave them various special powers and abilities, but that was not indwelling, nor was it permanent. The book of Judges gives several examples of this.

And finally the conclusion of these verses in our passage. The principle of love. Love as a policy. This is not a friendship love nor some gooey emotional love, but a love which we are to use when dealing with people in life. This is the use of the word 'agape.' This is a act of responsibility, of accountability, of maturity in the spiritual realm.

To those who love God. A love expressed by your pursuing a consistent daily practice of Bible study.
To those who love God. A life of desiring to learn Gods wisdom.
To those who love God. An adoption of a pattern of life consistent with what God teaches in the scriptures.
To those who love God. To anyone who is advancing in their spiritual life toward maturity.

Then, God will love (that form of application of His consistent policy toward mankind) them.

Gods love comes in the many forms of promises He has given us. It comes in the form of His support for us in life. It comes in the form of blessings, and in discipline (when necessary), in the form of prosperity (when appropriate), in the form of certain mental stability due to spiritual growth.

And His foremost promise, that Christ will disclose us to the Father (our ultimate target - God), and Him to us. This is a promise to sustain us in our spiritual life, and to advance us in our spiritual life to as far as we desire to go.

Now is the time to post a prayer.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
