John 5:39
Lesson # John 5:39
Study Material - John 5:39
You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.
John 5:39
39 'You search the Scriptures, because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is these that bear witness of Me;
The Pharisees search the scriptures. These Pharisees present a pattern of thinking, a pattern of life which many in our own day follow. You do not have to be into politics of big business or any type of big organization to be a part of this pattern. The common person, when they are negative follow this pattern by default.
They who are negative are either self righteous or they are lean more to the lascivious side of life, or even a combination of the two.
They study the scriptures. But this applies to many philosophies not just to the Bible. People in general, who are negative toward God, Christ, and the Bible, pursue something else in life. They may pursue the Bible but for all the wrong reasons. They may pursue other philosophies, also for the wrong reasons. They want heaven, but they want to get there on their own terms, not on Gods terms. Thus the rejection of God (the Father that is).
Why do we study the scriptures? Why do we study the same things over and over again. We have read these passages before. Many of you have read this chapter many times in the past, but I have heard form some that though they have read this passage (chapter 5) they somehow did not see the information we have had in our current study. Many of us have read something over and over and we have missed the message.
We have been on this detailed study of the entire Bible, and have been on it for about three years now. When we finish, if we were to begin again, we would all (myself included) would see things the next time around that we missed the first time.
Unbelievers lack the necessary mechanism for understanding Bible doctrine. We studied that yesterday. They see only that which is on the surface. Believers, on the other hand, see the pearls of wisdom which lay beneath the surface, because the Holy Spirit reveals them to us, 1 Pet. 1:10+.
Unbelievers, or negative believers, are in the same boat. The unbelievers lack the spiritual mechanics for spiritual study, and spiritual tools of negative believers are simply off line (out of fellowship). They both will arrive at the same conclusions - that the Bible is nonsense. They will never see beneath the surface.
The scriptures are to be read, studied, analyzed, and so forth, but they are to be scrutinized for the right reasons. The discovery of the glory of God should be the result, but those who pursue their search through the scriptures or other philosophies, seek their own glory - expertise in their chosen field. Expertise such that others will look to them for guidance rather than others looking to the principle party of the scriptures (Jesus Christ) for guidance.
Motives of negative types are less then honorable, they are lust driven. These lusts generally are power lust, authority lust, approbation lust. They seek to be seen in a popular light by people. They should wish to be evaluated by God for it is He (Jesus Christ) who will be the ultimate evaluator. That evaluation having eternal repercussions.
So why do we study? Our objective is heaven. Our path is Jesus Christ. Our vehicle is Bible doctrine. It is really as simple as that. We study over and over the same book all our life. We are not studying to gain some final objective, such as learning how to bake a cake, or build a rocket. That is to say, the Bible is not a semester subject that you study for as year then your finished with it, with nothing more to learn. Our Bible study is daily, and its duration if our entire life. That purpose being to keep it ever in front of our minds and in our thoughts. If we get away from it, the risks and dangers to our life are less than desirable to say the least. No one wants to live a miserable life. No one wants to face life without the resources to meet the various challenges that we will surely face in life.
So we stick with our study, but for the right reasons, spiritual growth. No one can advance to maturity by merely readying the Bible apart from the mechanisms that God has provided us all. The principle subject of the Bible? Jesus Christ. How can anyone read a book and reject the principle character of that book and then understand that book?
Now is the time to post a prayer.
End Of Lesson
Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
