John 5:25

Lesson # John 5:25
Study Material - John 5:25

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

John 5:25

25 'Truly, truly, I say to you, an hour is coming and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God; and those who hear shall live.

'Truly, truly' is repeated yet again. Listen up, ya'll. Another dramatic statement is coming and you better listen and again give serious consideration. Your life, your very existence, your destiny depends on what you decide and do with the information about to be given.

Death comes in various forms. We are all familiar with physical death. That is the end of physical life and from that death there is no return to physical life unless of course you happen to be the recipient of a resuscitation from Christ himself. For most of us, that is not likely. So just assume that once you die, there will be no recovery for you back into this physical life. That point is important, because it will affect where you will go in your after life.

The death spoken of here is spiritual death. Here this applies to us all from the moment we are born into this world. We are born physically alive, but spiritually dead. Until we have believed in Christ, we have no spiritual life whatsoever. Zero.

The hour of the Cross is coming from the standpoint of when Christ spoke these words. The hour now is, applies to every person who is alive on planet earth, throughout history. We all face the question 'What think ye of Christ?' Our response to that question determines our future.

If we believe in Christ, then we will receive a new life - our spiritual life.

By the way. This verse is not speaking of the resurrection. That subject is dealt with in verse 28 below.

The 'now' which Jesus is speaking of is a perpetual now. Which is to say that the gospel and our opportunity is always and continually available to us such that we can either believe in Christ or we can continue to reject Him. Of course once you accept Christ (that is, once you have believed in Christ), then this question is no longer an issue in your life. Once saved always saved. The salvation question is replaced with a daily question 'What think ye of Bible doctrine?' There, you are faced with your spiritual growth. You are repeatedly asked, 'Will I study today or not?' From that daily question you will either remain positive and advance in your spiritual life, or you will ignore Bible doctrine and, though you are saved, you will remain spiritually ignorant.

Kind of like a person being born into this world, and though he is alive physically, if he chooses not to go to school, then he doesn't get much of an education. That person likely will be very ignorant academically. He will learn the rules of the street probably, but the higher philosophies in life will never be his to possess. Yes, yes, I know. There are examples of those who have skipped school and succeeded in life, but too realize that, that list of people is a very short list in history. You are probably not on that list. Stay in school and study.

Our spiritual life? That begins with salvation. Salvation? That is the moment when you believe in Jesus Christ. 'Father, I believe in Jesus Christ.' That is the brief phrase you express to God the Father. All prayer (no exceptions) is directed to the Father. How can salvation be any simpler? Yet millions and hundreds of millions refuse just to think those six little words. Not only do they refuse they become absolutely defiant. The Pharisees are the pattern of that defiance. They hold on to their own beliefs, though those beliefs have no foundation in anything.

None of us were around when the angels were created. None of us where around when the universe was created. Certainly none of us were around when the whole plan was conceived, designed, finalized, and so forth. Most of us, if not all, were not even on planet earth 100 years ago. So how can we question the scriptures which were written thousands of years ago, written by different individuals over a period of several centuries, yet with complete consistency and continuity? What other document or set of documents can match this record? None.

Christ has explained the facts of life. A plan was conceived. As a member of the Godhead, He agreed to this plan. Christ was set apart in that plan to save mankind and to distinguish our faith from all other religions and philosophies in the world and throughout history. God the Father designed that plan and any who reject the Fathers plan, reject Him as well. To reject Christ is to reject God totally, and to say that your rejection means that there is something better out there. That is the quintessence of stupidity.

Life and death and restored life comes from the Son. Judgment comes from the Son. Who should we look to? The Son. During our life here on earth we as unbelievers have many opportunities to hear the gospel and believe in Christ. That is the single most important question anyone can ever face. The repercussions of rejection are beyond the imaginable miseries, perpetual horrors, and total isolation from everything.

The repercussions of believing in Christ are also beyond the imaginable, but these are blessings and happinesses beyond description. A much better choice.

Now is the time to post a prayer.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
