John 5:19

Lesson # John 5:19
Study Material - John 5:19

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

John 5:19

19 Jesus therefore answered and was saying to them, 'Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, unless it is something He sees the Father doing; for whatever the Father does, these things the Son also does in like manner.

In response to the argumentative and adversarial ones who wish nothing but violence against Christ, here Jesus gives them a very lengthy and very clear lesson in basic Bible doctrine. Through the next few verses He will systematically explain and demonstrate that which they should already have known through their reading of the scriptures. The Pharisees, or Jews as they are described here, are a negative lot, and their defiant attitude toward hearing the truth prevents them from learning and therefore seeing and understanding the truth. Their interests lie only in their preservation of their self made rules, and in their own application of those rules against the masses (power, authority, approbation, control and so forth). This by the way is the same pattern of thinking which is followed by liberal politicians, by big government proponents, by big bureaucracy seekers, by all who wish to rule and control the masses (regardless of the type of organization) through their self made rules, regulations and so forth.

Truth is the big enemy of the lie, and on that foundation, Christ teaches His lesson - 'Truly, truly ...', which is 'amen, amen,' or with certainty, by truth, believe it, properly, with firmness, so be it. These are all contradicted by those who oppose Christ, by all those who oppose truth. Truth is the foundation from which Christ speaks. His statement is emphatic - therefore, the things about to be said are extremely important and you are commanded to pay your most serious attention to them, lest you fall into oblivion, and lose out on all of life itself. You and only you can make yourself pay attention. No one else can make you focus o the truth. You and only you can make yourself be responsible and pay attention to that which will make or break your life. No one else will be there to learn for you. No one else can receive the rewards or punishments for what your life becomes. So you have a choice, either listen or ignore, either be responsible, or be stupid. Everything comes right down to what you yourself will think or do when it comes to your spiritual life as well as your everyday life.

Christ commands attention with His words. These words were uninterrupted. These words come from Christ, and Christ alone. They come from no one else. Were it not for the disclosure (the Word of God) from Christ, then mankind would never have access to this truth, nor any other means of getting at the truth. We can only imagine the scene when this lesson was given.

There are three members of the Godhead. Only two are taught here. Authority and truth are the principle lessons of this passage. Christ is the Son of God. He make no reference to Joseph, but to God the Father alone. Both the Father and the Son have eternal life. Both have always existed. Both will always continue to exist. They are both equal in position, however no one has ever seen the Father accept the Son, but since the Son is a mirror of the Father, then we see the Father through seeing the Son.

The Son does nothing by His own initiative. Everything was planned by the Father, and that same exact plan which the Father determined n the divine decrees of eternity past, is executed by the Son with perfect precision. Just as Moses was told to follow instructions with perfect accuracy, as the Son gave him, so too, the Son follows the Fathers plan to the letter with exact precision.

The Son does nothing of His own, but that which was pre-designed by the Father. The Son originates nothing, does not establish a separate or rival power, does not set up a separate or rival throne (as Satan would wish to, as the Sanhedrin would want for themselves), but follows the plan of the Father with the same exact authority, with the same power, and by the same wisdom as that of the Father.

The Father and Son are separate but equal persons in the Godhead.

Some would make God as inconceivable, not approachable, and very impersonal. But Jesus in His humanity demonstrates in His works, that God is very understandable, very conceivable and very personal, and very consistent in His policy for mankind. He teaches that the Son (Himself) is the Son of God, therefore the Lord of the Sabbath, therefore He commands the Sabbath. The Sabbath does not rule God. Mans rituals for the Sabbath do not rule God nor those who follow His doctrine.

All that is performed and even thought by the Son, is in perfect agreement with all that originated from the Father. There is only one plan for salvation. There is none other. There is only one plan for spiritual growth. There is none other. All the religions of the world which contradict the Bible are false and therefore lies.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
