Lesson # John 3:18 Study Material - John 3:18 You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth. John 3:18 18 'He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. There are now two defined categories of people. Those who believe and those who do not believe in Jesus Christ. If you believe in the 'only' begotten Son of God, Jesus Christ, then there is no condemnation for you. This is your salvation from sin and its reward of eternal destruction. You are not condemned. his is stated with certainty. No if, ands, or buts. No exceptions. No way to lose your salvation. You cannot commit any sin or do anything, or think anything to lose your salvation. Once God has placed you in this category, and He does so when you believe in Christ, then nothing and no one can remove you from it. This is eternal security of your eternal life with God. Faith, that which you express when you believe I Christ, occurs in a moment of time, in an instant, or even in just a few seconds, whatever it takes for you to think the words in your soul, 'Father (God the Father), I believe in Jesus Christ', period. This is the faith event of your salvation. Most people believe in Christ when they are young. Perhaps you do not even remember when you believed in Christ. Perhaps you believed in Christ on many occasions, thinking that you are somehow reinforcing your faith, which makes you feel more secure. But God notes your first expression of faith and your name is listed in the Book of Life, permanently. That book is maintained in heaven, see Revelation. Of course everyones name is recorded in the Book of Life when they are born physically alive, but unbelievers who die and have not believed in Christ, are blotted out of this book. So when the books are opened in the future and at the last judgment, their name is not found among those believers listed in the book, therefore they are unsaved. They are then reviewed in the Book of Works, and their works do not stand up to the standards which God maintains for salvation, and they are condemned on the basis of their works. The second category of people is unbeliever. They are condemned already. In eternity past the rules were established for history, and those who reject Gods plan are condemned to the eternal fires of hell. Lucifer was the greatest angel of them all, and he rebelled against God. God gave him and the other angels a chance to return from their ways. One-third of the angels followed Lucifer and after a time their judgment was decided. But it has not been carried out yet. We now have the history of mankind, which is the deciding factor for whether or not God has the right to judge Satan and his followers, and those who follow their pattern of rejecting God. All who follow Satan, and everyone who rejects God actually is following Satan whether they realize it or not, are condemned with him, and their reward is the lake of fire. So the decision to reject God, to ignore God, to refuse to believe in Jesus Christ, is a decision of self condemnation. Many people who are older in life and are really not interested in God, may be blessed in an unusual way, if they believed in Christ when they were young. They may have forgotten about it, but God doesn't forget. If this is the case then this is the best piece of luck they will ever have in their entire existence. When they die, they will be crawling all the way to the pearly gates chanting, 'thank you', 'thank you', 'thank you'. Better than attending their own BBQ and being the main course. Belief is in the 'only' Son of God. God has only one son. Not two sons, not three sons, but one son. He is not Allah, or one of those other eastern religious gurus. Not a technological god, not a science god. There is only one Son of God and that is Jesus Christ. He is the one who is spoken of by the scriptures. Nicodemus knows that there is a Messiah and knows that He is coming to this earth someday. But despite his extensive knowledge in the scriptures, he misses the lesson about the first advent of Christ and its intended purpose. Work before pleasure. Cross first before blessing. God before anything else. Doctrine and spiritual growth before blessing.
