John 1:15-18

Lesson # John 1:15-18
Study Material - John 1:15-18

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

John 1:15-18

15 John bore witness of Him, and cried out, saying, 'This was He of whom I said, 'He who comes after me has a higher rank than I, for He existed before me.' 16 For of His fullness we have all received, and grace upon grace. 17 For the Law was given through Moses; grace and truth were realized through Jesus Christ. 18 No man has seen God at any time; the only begotten God, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has explained Him.

In the Old Testament the prophets cried aloud bringing attention to the people to their sins, but here John the Baptist cries aloud bringing attention to the Savior. When he saw Christ, he recognized him and witnessed the sign of the dove coming from out of heaven and onto Jesus Christ. God clearly identifies His own, and those who are positive to God can clearly recognize the things coming from God. His savior, His doctrine, and so forth. Now that cult in Uganda who set themselves on fire because the end of the world was at hand, or it was supposed to end last December 31st, but they had to reset their calculations because it did not end. So they decide that the world was going to end this month, so they take their own lives to beat the rush I guess. Wanted to get a good seat in heaven! Anyway, they were misguided folks. Misled by some former priests who should have known the truth of doctrine, but we know that ones occupation does not make you an expert. Too many doctors and others get malpractice law suits for their mistakes. But often we as humans ascribe expertise to people of certain categories in life. We are in general, superficial, and often we discover that our preconceptions are incorrect. So it was with those folks and many others who are disenchanted with life, so they seek out their meaning in a cult of some kind.

Doctrine from God has always been available throughout history, yet people turn to the weird and ungodly for their divine influence. Their souls and sin natures pursue their own selfish and misguided desires, and they are fooled by false leaders, because they allow themselves to be fooled.

John clearly saw Christ and clearly identified him, because he had Bible doctrine in his soul. He had a frame of reference with which to make that determination. When Christ was born they city of Bethlehem did not recognize Christ. When he was taken to the temple for the rituals required, many people there did not recognize him. At 12 years of age, the teachers were impressed, but they did not recognize him.

You too can be fooled in life if you turn your back on doctrine. Fool me twice, shame on ... who? Many of us have been fooled many times in our lives. So do not make the mistake and think you can rise above the world and figure things out on your own, because you can't.

Jesus was born after John the Baptist, but John states that He, Jesus, existed prior to him, John. John recognized the deity of Jesus, and stated the fulfillment of the scripture calling him, John, the voice crying in the wilderness and that He, Jesus, who would come after him, John, would be even greater. For Jesus' rank was to be King of kings and Lord of lords, the God of the universe. John was called prophet of the highest, Luke 1:76.

Grace upon grace. The word is doubled up because grace first comes from God to us, and then grace comes from the source of doctrine from within our soul into our lives. Therefore we have a double portion of Gods blessing in this life. Gods policy with us is grace, and that in turn should lead us to a policy of grace toward others in our lives. Certainly people will take advantage of you. They will cheat you, and deceive you, and try to make you feel at fault for their problems, but you simply take it all in stride and give them their due and then move on in your life. If they provided you with something, then return it. God provided it in the first place and He will replace it many times over. So do not hold grudges or ill feelings towards others because they are jerks so to speak. Don't lower yourself to their level and do not let them drag you down. Take care of business and move on. Don't look back.

The Law came through Moses, but the Law was inefficient and proved to be void in its ability to save. It could not. Living by the ten commandments will not save you, nor make your life better. The Law stands as a testimony of mans failure. Those people in Uganda had decided that they were going to start a new society and live by the ten commandments. It ended up with a lot of gasoline and a match. Seems somewhat contradictory, violating the very law you were bound to live by!!

Man is always making up rules which are arbitrary and usually get modified because we of course couldn't break them outright, so we make adjustments to recognize our relative tendencies. And of course this is all justified as morally good. No one is beyond this kind of thinking. Whole nations can go sour. History has proven this.

Christ brings grace and truth. Grace is Gods policy toward mankind. Made up of His righteousness, God can have nothing to do with sin, His justice, sin must be judged and punished, and His love, He knew that many would turn to Him in salvation so He set in motion a plan to save us and give us an eternal life in heaven. Truth comes to us through His written word, and all scripture came from God, no exceptions.

No man has ever seen God the Father, but we have seen His son through doctrine. Since we have seen the Son, we have in effect seen the Father by means of seeing the Son, because they are the same. Not the same person, but the same in essence, character, and so forth. Christ has been in the presence of the Father since eternity past, in the council with the Father as well as the Spirit, and during the periods of creation and history. Their plans, policy, and actions have always been consistent. By explaining Himself, Jesus Christ has explained the Father also. God the Father is the ultimate source and authority, but He has laid down a plan and a requirement for us to come to Him through only one door, Jesus Christ. Therefore, all dominion and power has been given to the Son for the execution of the plan which is ascribed to the Father for our benefit of understanding. We have limits in our thinking capacity and God has to make certain analogies and relationships for us to be able to understand reality. God does not hate, but the Bible states that God hated Cain. This merely identifies the policy of grace verses judgment toward Cain. The Father is the ultimate authority, and we understand that because we understand authority and the relationships is demands between people. Authority brings order and freedom. While abuse of authority brings tyranny.

We look to Christ, because this is how the Bible commands us. We do not pray to Christ, but to the Father in Christ's name. Because this is the only way that prayer will be accepted. This is a boundary established by God so as to keep us on track. Adam had the forbidden fruit as a boundary and he crossed it and failed, only to recover later on of course. But we have our boundary set before us in doctrine, which is fellowship, and spiritual growth to maturity.

Now is the time to post a prayer.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
