Heb. 11:11-12 11 Through faith [pistis] also [kai] Sara [Sarrha] herself [autos] received [lambano] strength [dunamis] to [eis] conceive [katabole] seed [sperma], and [kai] was delivered of a child [tikto] when she was past [para] age [kairos] [helikia], because [epei] she judged [hegeomai] him faithful [pistos] who had promised [epaggello]. 12 Therefore [dio] sprang there [gennao] even [kai] of [apo] one [heis], and [kai] him [tauta] as good as dead [nekroo], so many as [kathos] the stars [astron] of the sky [ouranos] in multitude [plethos], and [kai] as [hosei] the sand [ammos] which [ho] is by [para] the sea [thalassa] shore [cheilos] innumerable [anarithmetos]. KJV-Interlinear 11 By faith even Sarah herself received ability to conceive, even beyond the proper time of life, since she considered Him faithful who had promised; 12 therefore, also, there was born of one man, and him as good as dead at that, as many descendants as the stars of heaven in number, and innumerable as the sand which is by the seashore. NASB This remarkable story begins in Genesis 16 and continues on for a couple of chapters. We have already studied this story and you may review it if you have obtained your copy of the Online Library E-Book. Faith conquers all. Faith is the most powerful weapon in existence. Faith combined with prayer, and Gods power, can accomplish anything that is true and proper, and compatible with Gods plan. When the story unfolded in Genesis, Sarah was not too positive toward the promise that God had given them. God promised that she would conceive and have a child by Abraham. She had been barren all of her life. And by the time she was ninety years old, she had passed into menopause many, many years prior. No monthly menstrual cycle, no ovulation, no eggs, therefore no possibility of getting pregnant. Furthermore, Abraham was ninety-nine years old and he too had passed beyond the age of virility. Both husband and wife were now infertile. No possibility of having children. In human terms, their having children was an absolute impossibility. Faith however, is powerful. Faith is powerful when it is combined with the power of God. You cannot will to yourself the things you want in life, but if your wishes are compatible with Gods will, and if your faith is sufficient, then faith can accomplish many things. Powerful faith does not come to the immature, but to the spiritually mature believer. Faith is not the result of luck or wishes. God is not a genie to be used on a whim, or at your convenience. Faith is the result of a dedicated plan and pattern of spiritual growth. Faith is the result of believing in God and His wisdom. Belief comes as a result of understanding. And understanding comes only from the daily study of Gods Word. You cannot understand that which you do not learn. You cannot develop a deep belief in something unless you understand it. As you grow up, learn, and begin to understand life and truth, then by observation of life around you, you are able to see Gods hand in all things. That comprehension produces an awe within your soul as you see God working His will not only in the world but in your own personal life. Don't mix up the true faith, with the faith of fools. There are many people out there in the world who have faith in their little stone idols. In the last few days there has been quite a flack in the news over the Mohammed cartoons. Believers of the false get really upset when their beliefs become a target. Of course they don't think anything about supporting suicide murder. Their kind of faith has no object, no target, no substance. They depend on intimidation or violence to 'force' their beliefs. Christianity in its proper context will not get upset when ridiculed. We are not concerned with the opinions of fools. Mark 9:23 23 And Jesus said to him, ''If You can!' All things are possible to him who believes.' NASB When a person does not believe in something they do not pursue it. Even though Sarah laughed for a time when she heard the promise repeated, and after she was infertile, but then something happened and our clue is found in her name. She was initially known as Sarai. And this name was not a very complimentary name. It implies that she was a very stubborn and opinionated woman, and very difficult to get along with. God humbled her by preventing her pregnancy for her whole life. Quite embarrassing for a very proud person. Then her name was changed to Sarah, meaning princess or a very agreeable and polite person. Quite a change not only in name but in personality. Everyone would have noticed the change. Also, she got pregnant. Now a woman who is beyond the years of pregnancy, who has been embarrassed throughout her life because of her barrenness, has offered another woman to her husband, is not likely to be the most aggressively passionate of females. 'Tonight honey?' 'Get lost. I have a headache.' But, she did get pregnant and she did have a name change which indicates she had a major change in attitude. One cannot get pregnant unless one has sex. At some point, She believed the promise of God and became a wife once again to her husband, Abraham. Likewise, Abraham has to have the ability to have sex before any of this can happen. Both had faith and God restored in both of them, the fertility of their youth. They had to come around to Gods way, and not pursue their own plans for life. Eph. 3:20 20 Now to Him who is able to do exceeding abundantly beyond all that we ask or think NASB The above verse will have its most powerful application in eternity, but during our life here in this world, there is more than ample room for it too. To those (Abraham and Sarah) who were infertile, will come offspring beyond counting. If you can count the stars, if you can count the grains of sand on the beaches, then you can know the numbers of human beings that will become the offspring (genetically and spiritually) of Abraham and Sarah. Faith is powerful, but it has to be accompanied by knowledge of Bible doctrine. Wishing won't cut it.
