You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.
Heb. 11:5-6
5 By faith [pistis] Enoch [Enoch] was translated [metatithemi] that he should [eido] not [me] see [eido] death [thanatos]; and [kai] was [heurisko] not [ou] found [heurisko], because [dioti] God [theos] had translated [metatithemi] him [autos]: for [gar] before [pro] his [autos] translation [metathesis] he had this testimony [martureo], that he pleased [euaresteo] God [theos].
6 But [de] without [choris] faith [pistis] it is impossible [adunatos] to please [euaresteo] him: for [gar] he that cometh [proserchomai] to God [theos] must [dei] believe [pisteuo] that [hoti] he is [esti], and [kai] that he is [ginomai] a rewarder [misthapodotes] of them that diligently seek [ekzeteo] him [autos]. KJV-Interlinear
5 By faith Enoch was taken up so that he should not see death; and he was not found because God took him up; for he obtained the witness that before his being taken up he was pleasing to God. 6 And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him. NASB
Enoch was instantly and suddenly removed from the face of the earth after walking with God for over 300 years. Since he lived only 365 years, he dedicated the bulk of his life to God, advancing in his spiritual life.
Enoch had a son named Methuselah, when Enoch was 65 years old. So the birth of Methuselah marks the change in Enoch's life. Methuselah has the longest recorded life span in human history. Methuselah became the link between the beginning of the pre-flood age with Adam, and the end of the pre-flood age with Noah. The life spans of these two men, Methuselah and Adam, spanned the entire period from the Garden to the Flood.
Enoch is the link between the two. And actually if you glance at our Generations chart, then you can see that from Adam to Abraham, the lives of only four men overlapped the span of this entire period (Adam, Methuselah, Noah or Shem, and Abraham).
Enoch walked with God. But before one can walk with God one has to have a relationship with God. Before one can have a relationship with God one has to approach God in accordance with Gods terms.
Gen. 5:24
24 And Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him. NASB
1 Cor. 15:51-52
51 Behold, I tell you a mystery; we shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, 52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet; for the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed. NASB
Rom. 8:8-9
8 and those who are in the flesh cannot please God. 9 However, you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, NASB
Amos 3:3
3 Do two men walk together unless they have made an appointment (have something in common)? NASB
Jude 14
14 And about these also Enoch, in the seventh generation from Adam, prophesied, saying, "Behold, the Lord came with many thousands of His holy ones, NASB
Enoch knew Bible doctrine. He taught it. Even the events of the Second Advent were known in the time of Enoch. Enoch learned doctrine probably from his dad, who learned doctrine from his dad, and so forth back to Adam. Enoch most probably knew Adam, and heard the stories that Adam told.
The provision of clothing for Adam, was Gods provision and solution for mans failure. The sacrifice of Abel teaches man worship of, and mans means of access into Gods plan. Now Enoch is said to have walked with God.
Surely Enoch had all of the knowledge of his predecessors, and now we can see that even in those very early times of mans ancient history, mankind knew of, and understood Gods will.
Enoch's removal was a demonstration of, and taught the pattern of, mans final removal from this history. At the Second Advent, all Old Testament believers will receive their resurrection bodies, with the exception of those who will survive the Tribulation and who will go into the Millennium. At the end of the Millennium, all of the remaining saved humanity will be snatched up instantly into their resurrection bodies.
And of course the last generation in this Church Age, will follow the pattern of Enoch, and at the Rapture, all believers both dead and alive will be caught up into the clouds with Christ, we will receive our resurrection bodies, and then head off to heaven, while the earth will continue with those last seven terrible years called the Tribulation.
Enoch lived by faith. He didn't work for it nor try to earn it as Cain tried to.
Enoch believed that God is. He didn't fall for any false concepts that might have been present at that time. He sought Gods reward. He knew of the promises of God for both his life in time and in eternity. He walked with God. He lived his daily life in accordance with Gods will. He preached for God, and this demonstrates his knowledge and understanding of God and of Gods word. And finally, he entered into Gods presence, which represents the completion of ones essence.
Enoch voluntarily surrendered his life to God. We see this illustrated in a woman's surrender to the man she loves dearly. So it is with each of our attitudes toward God. When we learn enough about Gods Word, and consequently learn enough about God, then we will possess the deepest of desires to surrender ourselves to His will, because we trust Him.
There is only one means of access to God and that is through faith. We cannot scientifically prove that God is, nor detect or measure the spiritual side of life. It all falls into he category of faith. God provides more than ample proof of His work through the scriptures and even through our perceptions of the universe around us.
Through faith we do not elevate ourselves, but we merely recognize our own deficiencies and rely totally on Gods provisions in our daily lives. Reward from God does not come from the application of our own talents or abilities, but purely from our complete reliance, in faith, on Gods will.
Now is the time to post a prayer.
End Of Lesson
Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
