Heb. 10:11-12

11 And [kai] [men] every [pas] priest [hiereus] standeth [histemi] daily [kata] [hemera] ministering [leitourgeo] and [kai] offering [prosphero] oftentimes [pollakis] the same [autos] sacrifices [thusia], which [hostis] can [dunamai] never [oudepote] take away [periaireo] sins [hamartia]:
12 But [de] this man [autos], after he had offered [prosphero] one [mia] sacrifice [thusia] for [huper] sins [hamartia] for [eis] ever [dienekes], sat down [kathizo] on [en] the right hand [dexios] of God [theos]; KJV-Interlinear

11 And every priest stands daily ministering and offering time after time the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins; 12 but He, having offered one sacrifice for sins for all time, sat down at the right hand of God, NASB

Several comparisons are applied to the Levitical activities verses the work of Christ. And, at the same time we can draw several more conclusions regarding comparisons between the work of Christ and any other religion, or philosophy, or attitude which you can think of.

Christ is superior to all. He is certainly superior to the atheist's view, which basically is no view at all with regard to their own future. To think that one simply lives for a time and then expires into nothing is a bit pessimistic and certainly gives ones existence no meaning or purpose whatsoever.

Now remember that the overall subject of the book of Hebrews is 'glories.' Glories are great honors, praises, and distinctions which are given to the believer who advances to spiritual maturity.

The world can give out various honors and such, as we see on the various television awards shows, or in some ceremony where a person has distinguished themselves in some fashion either by work or courage or commitment or by an accomplishment and so forth. People achieve things in life. People win contests. People demonstrate their great talent or gift in some way and so forth. These are honors that the world gives out to people. People honoring people. But these honors are temporary at best.

There is a greater glory which far surpasses anything that mankind can invent for himself. That honor comes from God himself and that honor, or should I say those honors, will last forever. They are infinitely superior to any honor from this world.

Likewise we have been studying for some time now, the superiority of the New Covenant (Christ's work on the Cross) over the Old Covenant (the work of the Levitical Priesthood).

First the old covenant never removed sin from mans life. Christ's work removed all sin as an issue from the human race. That issue of sin was replaced with an attitude - you either believe in Christ or you do not.

The Levites offered sacrifices everyday for centuries. Christ's sacrifice was but a single act carried out in a single afternoon.

The Levites activities were ineffective. Christ's single act on the Cross was perfectly effective.

The Levites consisted of many tens of thousands of priests. Christ was but one person.

The Levitical High Priest was only a man and a sinner at that. Christ is both man and God, the unique person of the universe, who possesses both perfect righteousness and perfect justice.

The Levites had to stand continually. Their work was never finished. Christ finished His single act of work on the Cross and then He sat down.

The Levites lived on planet earth and worked in a temple which was subject to deterioration. Christ is sitting in heaven at the right hand of God the Father.

The Levites repeated their offerings over and over, again and again. They never accomplished anything for anyone. Christ made one offering one time and paid the price of sin for every person who will ever live in the entirety of human history.

The Levitical system had twenty-four orders, in which the priests rotated in work shifts in order to carry out the work of the temple. Christ is but one person and He is on the job nonstop, carrying out His work before the Father in our behalf.

The Levitical sacrifices could only teach the failures and sinfulnesses of man and demonstrate mans need for something superior. Christ fulfilled that teaching.

Worldly religions and various philosophies rely on deceptive enticements, on lusts, on mans ignorance in order to draw people to their organizations. And rewards those who follow, certain failure in life.

God offers truth, and rewards those who follow, certain eternal success, prosperity and happiness, which far exceed the human ability to think or imagine.

The world offers hope which is nonexistent. Our hope is sitting in heaven right next to God.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
