You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.
Heb. 10:8-9
8 Above [anoteros] when he said [lego], [hoti] Sacrifice [thusia] and [kai] offering [prosphora] and [kai] burnt offerings [holokautoma] and [kai] offering for [peri] sin [hamartia] thou wouldest [thelo] not [ou], neither [oude] hadst pleasure [eudokeo] therein; which [hostis] are offered [prosphero] by [kata] the law [nomos];
9 Then [tote] said he [ereo], Lo [idou], I come [heko] to do [poieo] thy [sou] will [thelema], O God [theos]. He taketh away [anaireo] the first [protos], that [hina] he may establish [histemi] the second [deuteros]. KJV-Interlinear
8 After saying above, 'Sacrifices and offerings and whole burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin Thou hast not desired, nor hast Thou taken pleasure in them' (which are offered according to the Law), 9 then He said, 'Behold, I have come to do Thy will.' He takes away the first in order to establish the second. NASB
At the First Advent, the deity of the Messiah said these words. Again Psa. 40:6-8 is quoted. And He completes the thought and goal for the purpose of His First Advent - to do the will of the Father.
God has a plan. God has one plan. God has had one plan all along.
Gen. 3:15
15 And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her seed; He shall bruise you on the head, And you shall bruise him on the heel. ' NASB
A Savior was promised to come and take the sting of sin and death away from the life of mankind. When this original promise was made, only Adam and Eve were on the earth. There was no Levitical Priesthood. There was no Law. There was no Moses. There were no prophets. Then He gave Adam and Eve clothes of skins.
Gen. 3:21
21 And the LORD God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife, and clothed them. NASB
Where do you suppose those clothes of skins came from? By the way the skins are animal skins. And yes, an animal had to die in order for them to have the skins. This is the first indication of the sacrifice and principles of salvation taught to mankind, in the Bible. This is followed in the next chapter, chapter four, by the story of Cain and Abel whose sacrifices were the subject of their failure or success in life.
David wrote the psalm from which our quote came, and Jeremiah documented the promise of a new, 'replacement' covenant.
Jer. 31:31
31 'Behold, days are coming,' declares the LORD, 'when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah, NASB
The first covenant was set up in order to keep mans predicament in the forefront of his mind. Sacrifices and their principles were not only documented in the Bible, but they became the norm for mans interaction with all of the many false gods throughout the ages. Man knew of his flaws, even if the actions taken were more than distorted by means of the many false sacrificial acts that man invented.
Christ came the do the job that was intended all along. His First Advent was not a surprise visit. His First Advent was not brief such that no one would know He was even here. His First Advent was not kept in secret but well documented and open and public for all to see and know.
The first covenant was a will. It was a last will and testament. This was, or should have been, a well known fact. Everyone knows that only one will can exist. That is why they call it the 'last' will of the deceased. Only one will is in force and it is the last will which is in force. All prior wills are canceled by the making of the last will.
Jesus Christ came into this world to set aside the first covenant and replace it with the new covenant - His own personal covenant which He carried out the terms of and set it into force with mankind.
The first is out and the new covenant is now in force. And, it is not only in force but it is actually executed causing its terms to become a reality. That is, salvation and eternal life, and more, are now a reality and are conveyed to those who accept the terms of the new covenant. Those terms are accepted by believing in Christ. Those who reject the terms of the will (so to speak) are excluded from it. If you do not want an inheritance, then you will not get one. This applies to unbelievers only, of course.
Now is the time to post a prayer.
End Of Lesson
Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
