Heb. 10:5-7

5 Wherefore [dio] when he cometh [eiserchomai] into [eis] the world [kosmos], he saith [lego], Sacrifice [thusia] and [kai] offering [prosphora] thou wouldest [thelo] not [ou], but [de] a body [soma] hast thou prepared [katartizo] me [moi]:
6 In burnt offerings [holokautoma] and [kai] sacrifices for [peri] sin [hamartia] thou hast had [eudokeo] no [ou] pleasure [eudokeo].
7 Then [tote] said I [epo], Lo [idou], I come [heko] (in [en] the volume [kephalis] of the book [biblion] it is written [grapho] of [peri] me [emou],) to do [poieo] thy [sou] will [thelema], O God [theos]. KJV-Interlinear

5 Therefore, when He comes into the world, He says, 'Sacrifice and offering Thou hast not desired, But a body Thou hast prepared for Me; 6 In whole burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin Thou hast taken no pleasure. 7 'Then I said, 'Behold, I have come (In the roll of the book it is written of Me) To do Thy will, O God.'' NASB

The writer of Hebrews quotes from Psa. 40:6-8

6 Sacrifice and meal offering Thou hast not desired; My ears Thou hast opened; Burnt offering and sin offering Thou hast not required. 7 Then I said, 'Behold, I come; In the scroll of the book it is written of me; 8 I delight to do Thy will, O my God; Thy Law is within my heart. ' NASB

The scroll of the book is a reference to te entirety of the Old Testament scriptures. The primary subject of the Old Testament is the Savior, His identity, His mission.

The repetitions of sacrifices and feast celebrations were to teach the work of the Savior and the better life that anyone who believed in Him, would have.

Unfortunately the Israelites began to adopt a belief that the sacrifices were the means of salvation and not the means of teaching the role of the Messiah Himself. The people took the symbol, the shadow, and made it into a substitute for faith in the reality, the actual Savior Himself.

This departure resulted in the invention of numerous regulations for the entirety of ones life. Regulations stating what one could and could not do, on any given day of the week. The burden of the regulations was so great that obeying them all was virtually impossible.

God stated in the Old Testament, that these sacrifices were not what He wanted. Which means that He did not want people to seek salvation through the blood of animals nor even of their own works.

The people had missed the entire point of the Levitical priesthood.

What people should have learned was that man was separated from God, and man could not get himself back into a relationship with God through mans own works. Man needs someone else, a savior. One who would be equal with man and equal with God. One who could pay the price of sin - death - and then return back to life, thus defeating death, and then bring mankind back before God.

The Levites could not accomplish this. Actually no religion on the planet, no philosophy in all of history, can accomplish this.

Matt. 5:17
17 'Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish, but to fulfill. NASB

Matt. 10:34
34 'Do not think that I came to bring peace on the earth; I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. NASB

John 6:38
38 'For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me. NASB

There is one God to whom all faith is directed ultimately. That is the Father. Jesus Christ is God too, but the Trinity came up with a plan through which man could find a path back to God by means of Gods rules and not by means of mans ingenuity. That plan called simply for the recognition of the Son, Jesus Christ as that means of access back to God.

All religions reject Christ. Christianity is not a religion, but a relationship with God (the Father) through Christ. Christ is the key to the whole plan of God. Without Christ, there is no plan, no life, no reality, no future for anyone.

1 Sam. 15:22
22 And Samuel said, 'Has the LORD as much delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices As in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, And to heed than the fat of rams. NASB

Christ's sacrifice was effective because it was God's will all along.

Christ (the living person) is the will of God in salvation, 'Believe in Christ.'

Christ (the written word) is Gods will in spiritual growth, 'Study to show thyself approved (mature).'

All of the spiritual life is sustained through the power of the Holy Spirit (fellowship).

The Father planned the plan. Christ executes the plan. The Holy Spirit sustains the plan. Do you see mans efforts included in there anywhere? Mans role is faith and nothing more.

Now is the time to post a prayer.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
