You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.
Heb. 10:2-4
2 For then [epei] would they [an] not [ou] have ceased [pauo] to be offered [prosphero]? because [dia] that the worshippers [latreuo] once [hapax] purged [kathairo] should have had [echo] no [medeis] more [eti] conscience [suneidesis] of sins [hamartia].
3 But [alla] in [en] those [autos] sacrifices there is a remembrance again [anamnesis] made of sins [hamartia] every [kata] year [eniautos].
4 For [gar] it is not possible [adunatos] that the blood [haima] of bulls [tauros] and [kai] of goats [tragos] should take away [aphaireo] sins [hamartia]. KJV-Interlinear
2 Otherwise, would they not have ceased to be offered, because the worshipers, having once been cleansed, would no longer have had consciousness of sins? 3 But in those sacrifices there is a reminder of sins year by year. 4 For it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins. NASB
If the Levitical sacrifices worked, if they cleansed man of his sins, then there would have been no need for a Messiah. All of the prophecies for a Messiah would not have been necessary. Man could have cleaned up his own flaws and then moved on in his life because his conscience (or his soul) would have been cleared of any wrong doing.
But the opposite is true. Mans sin and thus mans appointment with death was not solved by any of the sacrifices. There is no real connection between the sin of a man and the life of an animal anyway. Just as there is no real connection between a volcano and the sacrifice of a person being thrown into it. One has nothing to do with the other.
The volcano neither thinks nor does it have any self determination. The volcano does not have eyes, or ears, nor even a nose with which to have a life. It has nothing to do with life.
Animals likewise have nothing to do with the divine nature of God, nor can they solve mans problems for him. Animals cannot die and then bring themselves back to life and bring man along with them into heaven.
The sacrifices were nothing more than a reminder of mans inability to solve his problems - namely sin and death. The sacrifices were also a lesson in mans need for someone else to take his place when the subject of solving sin, comes up.
Sin attaches to the soul. It drags the soul into the potential state of oblivion - eternal separation from God. The sins of man have to be dealt with such that they can be separated from mans consciousness forever.
Animals cannot do that. But Christ can.
Sure we all have remembrances of our failures. Folks have varying degrees of guilt assigned with their thoughts and actions, but then even guilt is a sin too.
One day we will all be removed from this world and one day we will all have resurrection bodies. One day we will stand before Christ and receive His purging fire which will cleanse all of the human filth or human baggage which we have carried along in our soul, throughout our life.
On that day, our consciousness, our soul, our existence will become free from the burdens and threat of sin forever.
In the Old Testament there was no removal of sin. There was no freedom of conscience under the previous covenant. Animals couldn't do it.
Psa. 51:3
3 For I know my transgressions, And my sin is ever before me. NASB
Prov. 28:13
13 He who conceals his transgressions will not prosper, But he who confesses and forsakes them will find compassion. NASB
But under the new covenant, there is freedom, because Christ provides it for us.
Rom. 8:1
1 There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. NASB
1 John 1:8
8 If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves, and the truth is not in us. NASB
What was the Old Covenant? The condemnation of man, and the promise of a savior to free man from that condemnation. The rituals were reminders and teaching aids to help man know the truth of his existence and the nature of his destiny.
What is the new covenant? Christ is the savior. Christ is the Messiah. Christ fulfills all of the promises and brings them to a reality for each person who believes in Him. Christ makes right that which was wrong. Christ removes sin from our life and paves the way for our spiritual growth to maturity and the fullness of life.
All of this, in order to make each believer 'perfect.' Our most complete perfection begins with salvation followed by spiritual growth to spiritual maturity in this life, followed by the receipt of a resurrection body and a most favorable evaluation by Christ in the next life, followed by the receipt of innumerable blessings for eternity.
The world will likely have nearly one hundred billion souls (give or take a few) born into life during human history. Look at the population charts on the web site.
Of those, many will not believe in Christ. How many will not believe is an unknown number. Of those who believe in Christ, most will not be interested in Bible doctrine and they will not grow up in their spiritual life.
Of those who are interested, many will not have the tenacity to stick with their spiritual studies and they will fall by the wayside. They will have some spiritual growth but they will not advance to maturity.
The only real success story in all of human history will be recorded in heaven for all of eternity, and it will have the names of those who have advanced to spiritual maturity and stayed with their faith for the rest of their life. This will be the smallest of the groups of people. The only true minority and of course the best minority that anyone could ever belong to.
So you might think about pursuing membership in that smallest and best minority group of all of history. Because to them will be the greatest of all blessings for all of eternity.
Don't get hung up in life's rituals. Don't get hung up in the peer pressures of this world. Don't get hung up in pursuing your independence for your ego's sake, at the expense of your destiny. There is nothing in this world worth more than that which God will give to you as a spiritually mature believer.
Now is the time to post a prayer.
End Of Lesson
Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
