You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.
Heb. 8:11-12
11 And [kai] they shall [didasko] not [ou me] teach [didasko] every man [hekastos] his [autos] neighbour [plesion], and [kai] every man [hekastos] his [autos] brother [adelphos], saying [lego], Know [ginosko] the Lord [kurios]: for [hoti] all [pas] shall know [eido] me [me], from [apo] the least [mikros] [autos] to [heos] the greatest [megas] [autos].
12 For [hoti] I will be [esomai] merciful [hileos] to their [autos] unrighteousness [adikia], and [kai] their [autos] sins [hamartia] and [kai] their [autos] iniquities [anomia] will I remember [mnaomai] no [ou me] more [eti]. KJV-Interlinear
11 'And they shall not teach everyone his fellow citizen, And everyone his brother, saying, 'Know the Lord,' For all shall know Me, From the least to the greatest of them. 12 'For I will be merciful to their iniquities, And I will remember their sins no more.' NASB
In the spiritual life, nothing of this world can be a part of the spiritual function in our spiritual life. Even our spiritual learning is not of our own abilities. If it were then people with low IQ's would be at a disadvantage as very smart people would be able to learn more easily than less smart people.
God has leveled the playing field in the spiritual life with the function of the Holy Spirit who is our real teacher. Now, none of this holy roller stuff applies here. There are no emotional concepts attached to the function of the Holy Spirit in your life. No seizures, no emotional outbursts, no mumbling or jabber, no falling on the floor. None of this nonsense.
The Holy Spirit is the means of your learning. The Holy Spirit is the means of your discernment. When you hear doctrine, it is the Holy Spirit who makes the information clear and discernible. It is the Holy Spirit who sorts out the truth from the lie.
John 14:26
26 'But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you. NASB
Now a test. If in this study I said that there is no God, then you have a choice to make. It this statement true or false? You have logic of course, but as far as your spiritual growth, it is not my words on this screen or page from which you are reading, that you make up your mind, it is the Holy Spirit who clarifies the issue and from that you can reach a decision.
Sometimes it may take some time and some growth before you can connect the dots, but the Holy Spirit helps you make those connections. And you have to be in fellowship before the Holy Spirits function works. He is God and does not work for you when you are out of fellowship.
And, most important, there is no emotional sensation that will come to you when the Holy Spirit functions within you. The spiritual life is not a part of this physical life. Sight, hearing, feeling, smell, taste, none of these apply in the spiritual life.
Another example. In Pennsylvania today, a court ruled against the Board of Education. It seems that the Board wanted to include 'creation by intelligent design' as a concept of study in the classroom. The court said no because it was not a valid scientific approach. Apparently someone challenged the Board's policy.
Anyway, we as believers in Christ believe that the Bible tells us the truth and that God created everything. Some in the anti-god community disagree. They want to think that they came from mush or something like that.
Well, again, if I said jabber, jabber, jabber, you would look at these words and know that they say nothing. But those who are out of fellowship or are unbelievers in Christ might very well look at those jabber words and find some deep meaning to life within them.
Silly? Yes, but then the spiritual world is nonsense to those who lack doctrine in their soul. So they pursue the lie (evolution) and reject the truth (creation). They see deep thought in jabber, jabber. They see nonsense in, 'God created the heaven and the earth.'
But there will come a time (not yet) when the nonsense will evaporate and the truth will be common knowledge and an integral part of the thinking of people. This will not be until the Second Advent (initially) and then finally at the end of human history at the end of the Millennium.
There will come a time when teaching of doctrine will not be necessary. Right now in history, people have to grow up and they have to be taught. You and I have to learn everything we know. We learn academically. We learn by experience. We learn from our own intuitive thinking. But these only apply to the physical world. We cannot learn doctrine in the traditional way. It would not be fair to those who have learning handicaps.
Thus the Holy Spirit steps in to level the spiritual educational playing field.
All of the sins that we have committed during our lives were judged at the cross. All of our sins that we commit on a daily basis are forgiven when we confess them. Note that sins were not forgiven on the cross they were judged only. Forgiveness comes when we acknowledge our sins to God, thus one of the purposes of confession.
And again, one day, there will be no further need for confession because all believers will be in resurrection bodies, will be in heaven, and all of human history will have evolved itself right out of existence. A little humor play with the words!
Now is the time to post a prayer.
End Of Lesson
Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
