Heb. 8:1-2
1 ¶ Now [de] of [epi] the things which we have spoken [lego] this is the sum [kephalaion]: We have [echo] such [toioutos] an high priest [archiereus], who [hos] is set [kathizo] on [en] the right hand [dexios] of the throne [thronos] of the Majesty [megalosune] in [en] the heavens [ouranos];
2 A minister [leitourgos] of the sanctuary [hagion], and [kai] of the true [alethinos] tabernacle [skene], which [hos] the Lord [kurios] pitched [pegnumi], and [kai] not [ou] man [anthropos]. KJV-Interlinear
1 Now the main point in what has been said is this: we have such a high priest, who has taken His seat at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens, 2 a minister in the sanctuary, and in the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, not man. NASB
There is an old myth that says that all that exists in this world, is but a copy of some original which exists somewhere else. The totality of that concept is not true, but the idea has some merit in the spiritual realm.
The true seat of power, of judgment, of sovereignty, of authority rests in heaven and not on this earth. When Moses and Solomon constructed their tabernacle and temple, they were building only a copy of the original.
The true temple, the place of relations with God, is in the spiritual realm. It is in heaven. No temple or church on this earth are an original, and certainly none of them are holy in the Biblical sense of the word.
The point of the previous chapter is this. That we (mankind) have a representative in heaven, that not only has an audience with God, but is actually seated at His right hand.
In life the one at the right is superior to those who are on the left. The superior authority is usually on the right. The subordinates should have their place on the left.
To be standing at the right side of someone is an honor, but to be seated at their right side is a supreme honor. Christ is seated at the right side of God. There is no better position, no higher position in the entire universe or in heaven, that any person can occupy.
One day, those who advance to spiritual maturity will occupy that same position along with Christ.
Rev. 3:21
21 'He who overcomes, I will grant to him to sit down with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne. NASB
This placement of Christ also indicates two more superiority's that He has over the Levitical Priests. First Christ is seated in the highest possible place of honor, authority and power. Second, Christ resides in the ultimate place of sovereignty, the true and original Temple which is in heaven, and not in a mere copy.
Christ is also seated as His work is finished. The work of salvation was completed with His one and only trip to the Cross. The Levitical priests had to offer sacrifices over and over again. None of their actions solved the problems of mankind - sin and death. And, none of the Levites sat down. They all had to stand while ministering in the Temple. No seats were provided for in the design of the Tabernacle.
It was only when the Sanhedrin was formed that they took it upon themselves to be seated in their proceedings. That body of course was the same group who crucified Christ.
Most people concern themselves with the world around them, which is really only a temporary world. The real life is in the spiritual realm. And it is there where anyone who is positive and open minded can find their true life and destiny.
We are not alone in this world. We have a representative of our very own who is seated in the ultimate place of power and authority, in heaven. With that kind of connection, the positive believer cannot fail in life.
Now is the time to post a prayer.
End Of Lesson
Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
