Heb. 5:7-8
7 Who [hos] in [en] the days [hemera] of his [autos] flesh [sarx], when he had offered up [prosphero] prayers [deesis] and [te] [kai] supplications [hiketeria] with [meta] strong [ischuros] crying [krauge] and [kai] tears [dakru] unto [pros] him that was able [dunamai] to save [sozo] him [autos] from [ek] death [thanatos], and [kai] was heard [eisakouo] in that [apo] he feared [eulabeia];
8 Though [kaiper] he were [on] a Son [huios], yet learned he [manthano] obedience [hupakoe] by [apo] the things which [hos] he suffered [pascho]; KJV-Interlinear
7 In the days of His flesh, He offered up both prayers and supplications with loud crying and tears to the One able to save Him from death, and He was heard because of His piety. 8 Although He was a Son, He learned obedience from the things which He suffered. NASB
Jesus Christ was in the flesh for 33 ½ years as a man, a born in the flesh 100% male. Christ probably lived at least as long as or possibly longer than Adam lived in the Garden before Adam's failure. Prior to His human birth, Jesus Christ was God and had existed since before the beginning of time. There was never a time in which He did not exist. There will never be a time in which He will cease to exist.
Jesus Christ was not the product of sex between God the Father or the Holy Spirit, and Mary. Nor did Mary impregnate herself. But God, out of nothing, provided the necessary seed to make Mary pregnant. And, in the normal course of child birth, Jesus Christ entered into the body of the baby at birth and thus became a human being.
Even Satan stood over he child as it was being born in order to kill it when life was imputed into the new born baby. Until the child is born and receives its imputed human life and soul, it is not a living human being. We have studied this concept before in greater detail.
I know it is difficult for some people to swallow because they are driven by emotions. But if human life existed in the womb, then Satan would have tried to kill the mother. But only biological life exists in the womb. And there is a big difference between biological life and human life. Satan wanted to kill Christ, not an empty fetus. So Christ had to enter the fetus at the point of birth and then be available as a man for Satan's attack. Of course Satan failed.
Rev. 12:4
And the dragon stood before the woman who was about to give birth, so that when she gave birth he might devour her child. NASB
Jesus lived as a man in the flesh. He suffered as any other human being, and even more than any other human being. He was the target of Satan's constant attack, from the moment of his birth, until His death on the Cross.
The burden of the sin of the entire world from all of humanity, in all generations, from Adam to the last future generation of human history, were riding on His conduct. The hopes and prayers of all who have and of all who will believe in Him were riding on His shoulders. His failure would have met the demise of billions of people and all of creation.
Jesus Christ lived the life of a man, He identified with man in his sufferings in life, He understood and felt all of the physical and emotional experiences of a human being.
He offered up prayers because of the anguish He faced in becoming sin for those who believed in Him. In the Garden of Gethsemane on the night before He went to the cross, Jesus prayed and agonized so intensely that He sweat great drops of blood, the physical and emotional pressure was so great. He felt the power of sin, He felt the power of temptation, He felt the great assault from Satan. He cried. He shed tears. He hurt. He grieved. What He had always known in His omniscience, He learned in a new way on earth by the actual historical experience.
He never attempted to avoid the Cross, for it was for that very purpose that Christ was born. He looked continually to the Father with great confidence, knowing that God would bring Him through the entire ordeal, and back from death.
To be a fully sympathetic high priest He experienced what we experience and felt what we feel, and even more.
Psa. 16:8
8 I have set the LORD continually before me; Because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken. NASB
The word for 'piety,' means fear, respect, or awe. And that is what Jesus Christ had for the plan of the Father, as well as the other two members of the Trinity. Jesus Christ was devoutly submissive and obedient to the plan of God. Jesus recognized God (the Father) as sovereign and committed Himself to the Father, having no separate plans or agenda's of His own.
Now is the time to post a prayer.
