You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.
Heb. 4:1
1 Let us [phobeo] therefore [oun] fear [phobeo], lest [mepote], a promise [epaggelia] being left [kataleipo] us of entering [eiserchomai] into [eis] his [autos] rest [katapausis], any [tis] of [ek] you [humon] should seem [dokeo] to come short of it [hustereo]. KJV-Interlinear
1 Therefore, let us fear lest, while a promise remains of entering His rest, any one of you should seem to have come short of it. NASB
The believer in Christ needs to 'fear.' This means that you should be in awe, you should be alarmed, you should be concerned about your life and your future.
Why?
Because you have only one legitimate goal in life, and that is spiritual maturity.
Sure we all have various goals in life - to graduate, to get a good job, to start a career, to be successful in business, to retire comfortably, to have many things in life, to have our debts paid off, to live a comfortable and worry free life, and so forth.
And there is nothing wrong with these goals, if ... you place God first in your life. The error in life comes when people place these things first and relegate God to the shelf of indifference.
It is really a sad thing when people hustle after the very things that God is the source of. God is the source of all things, which includes every detail of your life. By turning to God through a legitimate daily study, you allow God to provide for you through His efforts. But unfortunately most folks reject Gods role in life and they hustle after all the things they want in life - this life - and their chances of success are going to be zero.
Regardless of what you have or will have in life, regardless if you are dirt poor or you are a multi-trillionaire, your life is zero if you ignore God and have little or no spiritual growth.
Why?
Because your life is not defined as only that time between your physical birth and your physical death. Your life is defined as going on and on forever. Your life is not just twenty, or sixty, or a hundred years but it will continue on for trillions of trillions of trillions of years and more. Eternity is a very long time. Life on this planet in this physical life is nothing but a blink by comparison.
So first you learn of God and His ultimate resources and power which will be there to bless you in all of eternity, and then you come to a position of awe. God gave us the stars in the night sky to help us out in that regard. He gave us the discovery of genetics, of DNA, of atoms, of relationships between people and more, to help us out in the realm of awe. God is pretty smart.
You were made out of dust or nothing. You are nothing by comparison to everything else in the universe. The angels have far more than we have and they have had their life for a very long time. Yet we are going to be raised to positions of honor and authority which will be greater than the angels. God has promised us an eternity of blessings which exceed our imaginations. Most of us can imagine quite a lot.
Set back a watch some Sci-fi shows, or adventures, or anything that excites the imagination. God has waiting for us, things greater than all of these things.
God gives us many examples of life here in this life. We were all born into this world with nothing whatsoever to say about our circumstances. We see the very poor around the world and we see the very rich. Some work hard to accumulate wealth and they succeed. Some work very hard and they fail constantly. Some simply buy the magic ticket and they are rich instantly. Very few make it successfully in life. Of the population of over six billion people, how many are billionaires? Less than five hundred people. A very small percentage.
Now look into the next life, the greater of our two lives that we will live. We have a unique opportunity to set the circumstances of our next life by simply advancing to spiritual maturity. Not a very difficult effort for any of us. All that is required is to be open minded, considerably less critical of life, and a definite consistency in sticking to our study. God does all of the rest.
We don't know the make up of the new universe which God will create for us all after the end of the Millennium, but if it is similar to this one, then you could be the owner of an entire galaxy or two. Beats a modest castle on a thousand acres. Certainly better than a single wide used trailer.
We all have the promise of entering into His rest. That is, we all have the opportunity of advancing to spiritual maturity while we are alive in this life. But once we die and leave this world, then that promise comes to an end.
Therefore stand in awe. Look to God and see the reality of all that God does in this life and has done throughout all of history, and can do for you in eternity. Drop your petty attitudes and shallow reactions to the things that occur in life and look to the real reasons that you are here on this earth. Let the negative people in the world fight over the world and its rulership, and you look to God and your spiritual growth and prepare yourself for something that is infinitely greater than all that is in this world.
Then be alarmed that if you have not arrived at spiritual maturity, in which case you may be in danger of missing out on a vast fortune. You may be on the brink of missing the opportunity of defining your own destiny, or the circumstances of your destiny.
Let there be no mistake. You will live out your life here in this world, and then you will die one day. On that day your life will be defined based on the pattern of life which you chose during your life in this world. Do you want that definition to be one of a peasant in eternity or of a multi-trillionaire?
Imagine the life you could live today if you were a trillionaire. Hummm. Seems that we do have an imagination after all. When you go to bed tonight, in your dreams then try to imagine beyond your imagination. Are you willing to give that up by simply ignoring a daily Bible study and in effect disobeying Gods mandates for your life? And at the same time calling God a liar, and His plan a fake?
An unbelievably great future is right in the palm of your hand. Where is the wisdom of throwing it all away because of a stubborn attitude toward God and doctrine? Or perhaps more important, what will it take to convince you that this risk of loss is a very real one?
The Israelites lived in the desert for forty years with no real visible means of supporting themselves and they were so stubborn that they rejected God in the face of daily miracles which kept them (about two million of them) alive - in a desert no less.
Look in your own mirror and make your own decision about life. What do you believe and what aren't you willing to accept as truth?
Now is the time to post a prayer.
End Of Lesson
Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
